City: Pécs | euromaxx

We visit one of this year's European Capitals of Culture - the Hungarian city of Pécs. The southern Hungarian metropolis is a mix of various cultures. Pécs was conquered by the Turks in the late 1500s and they ruled the city for 150 years. Thus,in the main square you see a huge mosque which today houses a Catholic church. (Another mosque in the city actually is a place of worship for the city's tiny Muslim population.) The city also has a German past as thousands of Swabians settled there in the 1800s. We also visit the world-renowned Zsolnay porcelain company.
