You think about it..SDR will kill all Ham audio companies that stay with traditional dedicated radios… What do mean? Well, since we already have SDR technology, we can make a computer board and include a linear amp separately, make an in-n-output for an antenna connection…. Eventually, PCs will be our new ham radios with unlimited capabilities with software updates. I’m sure manufacturers are working on this concept and getting patents on it, knowing this is the future. Add remote control that can interface with your iPhone shines the light on our future. Eventually, we will be able to adjust our antenna’s SWR via PC and deliver 100% efficacy as well. What are your thoughts?

I suspect you're on point. Example, even from a fundamental standpoint, I just can't figure out why Icom doesn't come out with a dedicated piece of software that will make their "sdr's" "True" sdr's by enabling full spectrum control, agc-t and an advanced noise reduction all controlled by an on screen panadapter. They already have the rsba software for remoting which runs on the computer in the shack as well as remotely. Most of the architecture is already there. You mean to tell me that Simon Brown can develop sdr console which runs on almost any outboard dongle and will connect to ANY radio via cat and I com can't? No, they choose not to which I think will be there demise along with many others. However, I do know many ops have no interest in this technology and often sell the rigs like Anan's because they're too difficult to setup and operate. That said, Why can't manufacturers come up with a rig that can be run both ways either on computer with full control or standalone? The key is the entire interface needs to be SIMPLE and stable. Any radio that touts itself as a "sdr" that has an rf gain and not an agc-t is not a true sdr IMO. AGC-T is the most powerful weapon on receive with a sdr rig. It's jaw dropping if used correctly. NR is a pet peeve of mine. I've heard the new thetis NR2 which supposedly uses AI processing and it still can't come even remotely close to what I'm using. What on earth is going on right? I'll be dead before we ever see these things;-(

Hi Steve i have had my G2 for six months it's a nice radio but i am always talking on my SunSDR2DX .I find with Thetis i just keep playing with the software ,option paralysis, and never make contacts and like you i wanted to try the diversity noise cancelling.

@@bossdog20 I hear ya! The sun is going nowhere. Such a simple reliable sdr with a gorgeous sounding front end. The G2 will be more of a tool. I've gotten into more AM and they are monsters for that as well as diversity nc. We'll see......

@@bossdog20 I meant to say too that once u get the anan solid and stable, don't touch it. They are ridiculously complicated.

@@kb2uka575 getting it mostly for the diversity noise cancelling. Still a banjo 😀 n a box so will probably be on the other rig most of the time. Lol Interesting to play with though. Retooling the shack and setting myself up with specific gear for specific tasks ya know.
