steve, thanks for your vido here. yeah, i'm just about ready to give up on using vst host with any plugins. i'm running win11, uphoria 204hd, hex core i5 dell desktop w/ 32gb ram, potato, and thetis on an Anan G2. 0 or very low overflows/underflows all.the.time. i followed your sound chain setup to the letter, but couldn't get good audio out on the air to save my life. the plugins in thetis just don't act "right." audio clipping, plugins are clunky or non-responsive, and otherwise unusable. even on SSB, my regular group of guys are all giving me thumbs down. as soon as a load the "Bypass" module in potato (0 plugins), my audio magically transforms and i get compliments on audio. i am running 48,000 x 128 bit most of the time, and everything matches (win11, potato, host, etc...). don't know what i am doing wrong, but still trying to figure it out.
@@nhojcam sounds like it's user error. U don't need 128 bit. 16 or 24 is plenty. I can get any sound I want on even my old 1st gen i5 laptop with 100% stability. Uve got something wrong there or there's a major glitch with the os. Seen it before with 1 other person. Probably better off using a modest rack.

@@k1gmmgreenmountainmaniac251Hi Sir!!!! I installed, and followed the method for the "VSTHost" installation and it didn't want to work. I couldn't get audio in my "Sunsdr". I tried every possible and imaginable starter. All the combinations possible and it didn't want to work. I took a break, I went to eat something in the kitchen.... And bam, I remembered that you talked about virtual cable.... It must also be said that I don't have an external sound card and that I don't install "Banana". So I had to find a solution. I download the virtual cable, make the configurations and here is the audio that appeared in the "Sunsdr". Thank you, sir!!!! Yai!!! Thank You sir! Happy New Year and take a good contact.
Let me make it perfectly clear...AGAIN! This is not a sales pitch for either radio. Someone asked me for a comparison. Here it is. Yes, it's my personal preferences. Everybody has different preferences. I'M NOT SELLING ANYONE ON THESE RIGS. I was asked, so i answered. Take it or leave it. 73
Don’t take my previous comment below to heart. As an OT ham you can stick me in front of an Eico. But as an EE it’s awesome to see this new technology and how the new hams are embracing it. Some of the best audio I've heard. I just purchased a G2 and I'm waiting to get it next week. I have a couple questions. Apache Labs recommended I install Power SDR. I see most people are using Thetis and wonder why they recommend one over the other. What is the control with the EQ and buttons I see you using? I've never seen it on various websites before. After I get the radio I may bug the ever lovin hell out of you if I have problems getting it set up. Thanks. W5CBO
The G2 standalone runs on the pihpsdr of course. Just download thetis. That's probably what they meant. The audio software is what you see on the screen. It's free and on the website in the description. Congratulations on the G2!!!!

Good morning Steve
Mornin Elmer!
Steve what are you thinking about the G2 Ultra I watched your videos on this and was thinking about getting. I have had the 7000 and now have a flex 6500 for remote. Just wondering your thoughts. 73
Man that's a loaded one. I love it standalone and run it 90% of the time that way. I found the pihpsdr running in the g2 has better NR than the nr2 in thetis. It also sounds different on the receiver. More to my liking over thetis. Runs glitch free. I believe it's strength is that it can be run standalone without and external computer. I don't use it much but for the diversity NC when noise is present. I've been spending most of my time on AM lately and I know it works excellent on that mode. I'm just not a fan of the anan receivers when it's noisy. 90% of the static crashing that scalps me on the anan's, 200d and g2, I don't even hear on the sun sdr2dx and when I do hear it on the sun it's very subtle. That's why I gravitate to the sun all the time. I think Apache Labs hit a home run with the g2 w/built in display although grossly overpriced. Benefits? 2 independent receivers, Diversity NC, unlimited tx bandwidth, predistortion PS, fun to play with. Is it worth the $? Only an individual op could answer that. Cons, most complex hf transceiver on the planet (steep learning curve), cost, and instability.
@ thanks for all the info Steve. I was going back and forth on the g2 and the flex 8600m standalone. It took voice meter and cake walk EQs to get my flex 6500 close to my Anan 7000 but it doesn’t have pure signal which sucks. I guess the biggest thing I worry about if there’s a warranty issue how can you trust that it would be repaired? I see on there website now that Apache Labs opened a place in California,so maybe better days? 73 Steve and thanks much for what you do.
@David-p4s4b yea, the service thing makes me nervous but Doug in Arkansas is very fast and good. I've heard countless hardware issues with the anans. I think there is a qc problem with Apache. Personally, i would never buy one new. I buy used and let the first owner sort it out lol.
@@k1gmmgreenmountainmaniac251 sounds like you like the Sun better I might have to look at that brand. I wonder if you can get the audio and pure signal from the Sun? Have you done a UA-cam on the Sun if so I’ll look at? 73
@@David-p4s4b Remember Dave, these are "personal" observations and preferences. A rig is a tool that meets an individuals needs and wants. That said, the sun's tx audio capability is equal to the anan. Processor options on the sun are amazing. The sun does not require pure signal if running a tube amplifier. Impeccably clean. Been testing AM on a local kiwi sdr analyzing the imd at 10-12khz tx. 200 watt carrier and noticed absolutely zero imd on the kiwi with a signal of +40 while using the acom 2000a. Tight and clean. A used sdr2DX would be worth picking up as they can be had for pennies on the dollar compared to a new anan. I've had the Sun for about 5 years now and has been 100% stable and reliable. Grenade proof. Not one issue. Get running, set it up and leave it alone. Can't say that about anan. Now, if a standalone anan is intriguing and arrives in working order LOL, you WON'T be disappointed! They are beasts and there's virtually nothing you can't accomplish with them. Div' NC, 2 independent ADC's, Beastly TX audio etc. It's one drawback like I said is the RX. It's a nightmare when there's heavy static crashing. Absolutely brutal. Look at any of my recent videos and notice the sun's spectrum hopping yet can't hear the qrn. The sun's receiver is very smooth, no brittleness and very tube like. Best rig I've ever heard when things are very noisy. Go online and listen to some of my sun videos and then find some anan videos and compare. Put on a good set of cans and listen to them both with a critical ear. You'll quickly realize the difference. I call the anan a "banjo in a box." There's a weird inherent "ring" in the audio in the anan. Strange. I'm all about the receive quality of a rig now and the reason I don't gravitate to the g2 as it fatigues my ears in short order. Hope this helps. Just my preferences at this point.

Hello Steve it’s a month later as I tend to view your videos later but I wanted to ask how do you keep the 31 band Eq and other plug ins to stay up on the monitor together? I tried that on my second monitor but only one will stay up? For example when I select the Eq it stays open but as soon as I select the exciter it’ll replace the Eq. Btw I’m using voice meter with cakewalk and thank much.
@David-p4s4b Grief, I haven't used cakewalk in a very long time. I'm not sure how to do that. That's one reason I use vst host. All panels stay on the screen and can run multiple instances. Have to go back to my cw config videos and take a look. Sorry.

Reverse the process when I'm not using sdrconsole.
@@TheOldxMusicMan yup. U got it.
Supertone Clear is on sale right now for $69.
It's a shame that Windows doesn't let you chose ASIO in and Wave out or vice-versa. It only allows one audio engine.
This is great! Thank you very much! It's all coming together now. Running a 7300, and I'm using a UMC-404HD that I used sometimes in my old home studio, and sending everything to a set of KRK Rokit 5 speakers, also left over from my old home studio. My mic is a AT2020, great mic, but I just ordered a Shure WH20. A headset mic just seems to allow for more freedom of movement, plus the at2020 in a shock mount on a boom arm is partly blocking my view of one of my monitors. Now I just need to figure out how to pipe the PC audio through a VST I created for listening to music, streaming, or videos like yours. Haven't figured it out yet but there has to a way to separate the mic audio from the pc audio so they each can run to a different vst and then out through the 404hd.
Alan, are u referring to pc audio as in, audio from a websdr etc?
@@k1gmmgreenmountainmaniac251 Never mind, I figured it out. PC audio as in media player for when I want to listen to my music, streaming from Amazon Prime, etc, watching videos on the internet. That sort of thing. But Win 10 and 11 have a Volume Mixer that you can change the inputs and outputs on different apps. So I changed Firefox and VLC media player to output to Line 2 VNC which goes to my VST Main which is configured for regular audio (as in non-Ham audio), it sends the output to Input 5 in Potato which outputs to the 404HD. Works fine. There might be a better way to do it but this way works OK.
Are you running the paid version of Voicemeeter Potato?
@@TheOldxMusicMan no. Basic vm or banana is adequate for this. Potato provides full asio support on the inputs for tx. That's why i use potato and it's expanded ability for routing.
