"Steaming". Due to the grip the church had on Scottish society there was no Sunday drinking in days of yore, pubs were closed on a Sunday. However for those who lived near navigable water ways they could take advantage of a ships bar whilst it was underway, because the no Sunday drinking law didn't extend to boats. The most popular water borne transport was the paddle steamer (there was a wee nod to paddle steamer heritage earlier in the episode the scene with Jack & Victor posing by the car with the boat in the back ground, that was The Waverley, one of the last surviving Scottish paddle steamers still in service,) and the Glasgow public took full advantage of what became a burgeoning trade and a Glasgow tradition. Folk would get drunk on the boat and pretty soon "I'm steam boats" to describe ones drunken state became a popular phrase, not just on a boat or in Glasgow and very much still in use today to describe deep inebriation, but these days it's usually shortened to just "steamin!".

The gravestone had not fallen over but was intentionally laid flat. Due to a child being killed by a gravestone falling on it councils now are obliged to lay flat wobbly stones or the families have to pay to have them fixed securely.
Steaming means drunk. It comes from the fact many Glaswegians used to begin their trips to the sea by going "doon the water" in a paddle steamer ship called the Waverley. By the time the reached their destination they would be drunk thanks to the onboard bar.

We have got so many terms for bring drunk. Steaming " Steam boats", Phished, Rat arsed, Blee-zin, Blootered, Bladdered, Sloshed, Many many others.

Steaming means very drunk or pissed. To be honest there's a whole bunch of words used for being very drunk throughout the UK. Pissed, Steaming, Posted, hammered, knotted, plastered, lamped... A British comedian, Michael Mcintyre, does a whole bit about the absurdity of words used for being drunk saying that you could put any word in there and it would still make sense. For example he says something like "You should have seen me last weekend I was absolutely goalposted".

You cannot find one episode of Still game that wont make you laugh or put a smile on your face. Down to earth real life humour without to much censorship...Just like " Benidorm " this series is a classic.

I've watched every episode a few times... but watching you watching is hilarious.
Most graveyards in Glasgow have load of headstones toppled, often done deliberately by young yins. Although some due to how old they are as well. The Necropolis is/was one of the worst, lots of high society buried there, so it's lots of massive headstones or monuments, some from almost 200 years ago. Many headstones or areas there have to be taped off, unfortunately a good few years back a young kid at a cemetery the other side of Glasgow was killed by one falling on top off him... And a wee fun fact about the UK black cabs you might not know, they are often owned by the driver themselves, and a tradition is that they have their kids first names painted on the rear of the taxi.

Hey Squirrel great that you are showing all the Still Game episodes. Amazingly it wasn't that popular in the UK and it's difficult to understand why so many people haven't seen it but it's right up there with Only Fools and Horses.
Tam the tight one is great in the episode called Cairds but Winston is great with his battles with the bookie. Keep up the great work.
