Fun fact about why "Steaming" means "drunk" in Scotland. In 1841, a law was passed in Scotland limiting the sale of Alcohol in an attempt to curb the growing issues of alcoholism. The law stated that only a legitimate traveler could purchase alcohol for their comfort on a Sunday. Two weeks after the passing of the law, the first pleasure steamer began sailing on Scottish waters and the Scottish term “steaming” meaning drunk enters the local vocabulary. Hope you feel better soon brother!
Re: Steaming Back in the day there was no Sunday drinking allowed in Scotland, except on the paddle steamers that plied thier trade on the River Clyde. They were mainly used by the middle classes, and were priced out of the range of most workers, but as wages increased they were able to buy a ticket and use the bars. That's when 'I'm going steaming' became a euphamism for drinking, and being very, very drunk eventually became Steaming or Steamboats.
The cemetery at the start of the episode is the Glasgow Necropolis and it also appeared in the 2022 Batman film. It is close to Glasgow Royal Infirmary and I can say having been a patient there, you get an excellent view of the graves from your hospital ward.
I always liked the scene where they fill the car up with fuel. It’s half the price of today which makes me laugh in itself and then the look on their faces as she turns the till round to show the price is just brilliant.
Cheers for doing this :) "Brief" Is one of my favourite episodes. It definitely has some great lines of dialogue & great moments throughout. 15:00 to 15:14 That is my favourite Tam moment because he's absolutely right on that. 15:44 to 16:47 That is my favourite Winston comeback
As always I just love this show because it’s recorded 1 mile from my house Alan I’m so sorry your a bit under the weather I noticed through the video you wasn’t laughing as much get well soon mate & I hope when the next episode you/we watch next week your feeling better love to the family mate
Great reaction! The next episode is an absolute HEATER!!! you’ll love it! Also for reference “scran” is slang for food/munch/hangover food etc in Scotland which is the name of the next episode
I was born and raised and still live in the east end of Glasgow, i am 54 years old and never in my entire life have i heard a Glaswegian use the word scran, only ever heard it on Still Game.
Only place I’ve ever heard it in my life is Glasgow. And have for years. Easterhouse must be different , maybe you can’t understand because of the lack of teeth
@@scottstewarttv Easterhouse - even the rats wear boiler suits up there and the stray dogs carry chibs. Jumped about Provvy as a teen, it was like the wild West!
I watched a documentary about the show and it had a lot of the actors who appeared in the show, the actor who played Martin said that all these years later and all other work he’s done that people still yell at him on the street asking if he wants a snowball. I always thought it was weird that they were selling that car so cheap, would think it’s be over 1000.
21 years ago the value would be £440 adjusting for inflation and this skoda a 1991 preceded the VW group purchase making them far better cars so perhaps the price wasn’t far off
Glad you're enjoying the show, it's a classic. A lot of the subtleties of the humour might go over your head if you can't understand everything they're saying, so it's well worth opting for the subtitles when you watch. It'll suddenly get twice as funny then. Peace.
Tams delivery of "Her mans been deid a fortnight, her head will be up her arse" doesn't get enough credit. The wee chuckle before it too, Mark Cox is brilliant at making Tam unlikeable.
Alan, you should watch some of the docus. that were made after series finished. It tells of how they made shows and interviews the cast as they are. They were all in there 30s apart from Eric who was elderley. You wont even recognise Isa in real life. Love from Scotland. xx
3:50 That was filmed on my old street, to break the illusion, that's a fake bus stop, busses didn't use that street, my friends used to stay in the block of flats they are standing outside of
Fuel was unleaded, not diesel. Diesel is black pump here and green unleaded. I always assumed it was because green represented better for the environment but it's probably not that
Know what you mean about allergies I have hay fever all summer( all 6 weeks of it in UK 🤣)but most of the time it’s bloody freezing so either heavy cold or flu!
It's crazy when I see the scene where jack & victor are outside the laundrette, well that is a real launderette and it's only a 3 minute walk from my house.👍
This is one of my favourite episodes too from the early series. And yes, we lost stevie Allan earlier this year, he only appeared in two episodes but made manky franky a great character, great reaction, many thanks 😊
Some years ago the government advised everyone to buy diesel cars only a few years later to tell them diesel cars were polluting so not to buy them. Now the U.K. in order to qualify for some random date chosen to make the U.K. comply with that random date and look to the rest of the world as some kind of example to follow in order to end global warming they have another random date fixed to end all petrol cars . The assumption i assume is for everyone to drive electric cars which are expensive to buy and expensive to buy new batteries for, as well as taking energy to build which is unlikely to be clean energy and as China Bolivia and Chili are main suppliers of those materials for E.C.s .Almost as if the West has learned nothing from reliance on Russia for oil and gas. We actually vote these people into power ..something is wrong somewhere.
Glad you enjoying this TV series me being in UK I've watched this many times brilliant you find anything like it with all this woke nonsense . Just a note in UK fuel station green pump is unleaded fuel and black is diesel al topsy turvy . J
Unfortunately the Actor who played Manky Frankie (Steve Allen) died in March. He's a Legend in Scotland.

I always have to laugh at the petrol station scene. Prices are almost double that here nowadays 😫😫
Were a lot more than double 1 year ago

I never watched it on TV but I'm enjoying watching it with you.
I'm really enjoying rewatching these with you, Alan. I hope your allergies clear up soon.

Actually, used cars traditionally were pretty cheap. I used to peruse UK used car sites and noticed that.
