      I have been flying the flaps for a few weeks. Just added more deflection. You don't use full deflection for take off anyway

    I really enjoyed the testing session. we can see the full extended flaps shaking under the air pressure and I like the sound of the engine slightly roaring when you adjust the lowest landing speed ...Pure experimental Aviation.

    @Mauleguy was curious about the airspeed indicator issue as well. Was showing you at 0 when you were saying 30-40 mph. Does this have to do with the pitot tube or maybe something else? Look forward to hearing your reply if you've figure it out. Nice video!

    I was watching your airspeed indicator and wondering about it, then you mentioned it. Curious to find out what is causing that. Cheers from Winnipeg.

    Good video. I'm just learning. Curious about the overall effect of such flaps on lift should you encounter any unforseen circumstances. They look pretty much like airbrakes. But if you had to increase your energy suddenly, you'd have to be able to recognize and decrease your flaps quickly - to create more lift? You have a good knack for engineering on a "shoestring". 🙂

    We bent the same useless hanger blocks as well .
    This is on a two hanger flap from Javron
    Changed them out to the certified ones .
    They went right into to Javron hangers .
    Now no issue .
    Yes we were watching the flap speeds.
    I don’t know why they even supply the small ones.
    The experimental kits should have the same parts as the certified ones .

      I machine some of the parts for Airframes Alaska. I am guessing they would build you a set. You would have to come up with the hinge point part that attaches the flaps to the wing. I don't know what your attach point looks like but it can probably be done with some backyard engineering.

    Hi Greg. Did the nose point down any more with the increase flap?

    • @mauleguy
      @mauleguy  3 роки тому +1

      no, you fly slower so it just becomes same attitude as you fly slower. No trimming required once you start to bring flaps on.

    hy, nice deflection of the flaps, nice flying and parts machining! i see that you used stewart systems for the fuselage covering (inside camera shows blue stripes), did you use all the products (cement, UV block filler, paint) of the system or only the cement?

    That was great!! Thank you for doing real world testing. On your take offs how much flap do you pull. I have the Pstol flaps at a max of 50. If I pull full flap at take off it feels like to much drag.

    Do you notice the flaps blanking out the elevator at all ?

    • @mauleguy
      @mauleguy  2 роки тому

      I don't think they are blanking out but they probably do disrupt the airflow somewhat. At low speeds (under 40 mph) I notice some feedback in the stick which I did not have with the stock flaps.

    Have you ever looked at this spot for landing? 46.69199615077043, -124.05017086983926 (google map) do you think it's legal to land there?

    • @mauleguy
      @mauleguy  3 роки тому

      So I have not looked at that spot. My guess is that it is tidal (could be underwater) and very soft other times. I probably would not land it since it is right on the coast and landing the beach is not legal. I don't like to have to deal with red tape and there are plenty of places to land where no one is going to see me and I know I am not going to have to deal with any officer. Copalis is not too far away from there and it is legal (29miles North).

    I’m not sure I understand how you can put that much more force on the wing and spar. Considering you bent a stiffener Could you speak to that. Thanks for the video.

    • @mauleguy
      @mauleguy  3 роки тому +3

      Well the spar is not an issue and the false spar there is a beef up doubler kit that is built for the certified version which passed all the testing. I ordered and will put on the doubler kit when I get it. Although the certified version was not tested with 70 degrees of flaps I know the engineer personally and he says it is not an issue. I knew going into the change that the stiffener was the weak link. It is kind of like putting 450 hp to a Dana 60 rear end and not beefing up the drive line or the axles are 31 spline and really you need 35 spline. The housing and gears in the Dana 60 are plenty strong but the axles are too small so you break them. This is an easy fix.
