I spent Friday, Saturday and Sunday at my dad's cabin in Monument, OR. The highlight of the weekend was coming up on 3 California Desert Bighorn Rams. I also saw more than 200 elk and probably 20 deer. It was a great way to get some sunshine! - Розваги
it does not get any better than this. I try to forget about that guy, but I cant. Another video and I am hooked again. Please go away!
Tha will be a cool place to stay when the cabin is finnished. thanks for the vid,
watching those landings in the beginning!!!!
Fabulous series of films!
I’m living the dream vicariously through you! Thank you so much for the videos. 😎👍
I agree
Same for me!
Man the take off at 2:10 made me gulp 🤯 great great video! Happy I discovered your page
Thank you Greg I really enjoy this! Sharing your beautiful country, cool flying and your wide range of experiences is a big win for me!
Thanks for watching!
I love the beautiful country that a bush plane gives you access to! To be able to land then explore around is incredible to me! Great way to find great hunting or fishing spots!
Great video!
I just subscribed and wished that I’d seen this YT channel earlier. After viewing a few videos, it’s clear that Maule/Cub Guy, uses his backcountry STOL aircraft to get away and enjoy nature's quiet splendor (quiet when the engine is off :). AND do it as a happy lone explorer on most trips, including the solitary hiking, biking, paddling, fishing. A backcountry landing site that’s filled with planes and people seems to undermine the “get away” premise. Of course, most of that crowd would probably shy away from Greg’s typical landing sites. A little too extreme even for them. That’s a good thing. I fly gliders and taildraggers, including a Super Cub at one point, and dabble with woodworking, metalworking, RC/drone building and flying. So a mix of flying skills, HD outdoor scenery, design/building ideas, and detailed tips (how to evaluate and prep a landing site, be ready with the heel brakes, helmet wearing, outdoor gear recommendations, etc.) all make for compelling video watching.
Hi SS welcome, glad you found my channel. Thanks for the review.
What a cool play ground. Your dads cabin looks like a beautiful n place to hang out. He’s a fortunate man.
Unreal........loved it .........if you had to would it take one more person.. if you had to rescue or something like that ? thanks
Skills !
Beautiful country! You have to keep sharing these videos just for the tips and tricks you use and mention, they really could save other pilots from unnecessary learning experiences from inexperience. Keep em coming! yes you have given me a lot of tips and tricks I will be sporting some of your apparel!
Thanks for your support Ryan
Hard to believe, but you’re vids keep gaining in quality! Really enjoyed this!
This was a great video with some spectacular views. The cherry on the cake for me was those three big horns at the end. It is a great pitty you didn't have your other camera with you. Just goes to show what happens when you least expect it. Your dads place looking great. Nice of you to leave some firewood for him😁.
Cabin is looking good Greg, thanks
For including us in your flying and building, cheers from Canada 🇨🇦
Thank you Lindsay.
So glad you were able to go to your dad’s cabin! It’s really coming along. What a great place and beautiful views!! And as always it’s fun to watch and learn from the best in the business!!! Thanks for sharing these great adventures with us!!!
Thank you Rob.
Man what a way to spend a few days! Really enjoyed all the story! Kind of like watching a new BRLP dvd. Funny how things that happen when we are kids mold our thinking for the rest of our lives. Loved the scenery...amazing! Thanks for taking the time to film all this for us! I can relate to what it takes...I've flown for just pure fun maybe three times since we started our channel. Always on a filming content mission it seems. I fine with it, but people that don't have a channel have no idea...
Yes, I seem to take the camera's most times now. I still go and do not turn them on if I just want to feel totally free or there are other's involved. I have a hard time turning the camera on when I have included others on my adventures. It seems a little too exploitive of a relationship. This is why it is just typically a solo trip that is filmed.
Really love your videos. They transport me to the things I would love to do. Your narration is perfect- quiet and engaging. I really hope your channel moves along and becomes more self sufficient. Really appreciate the effort that goes into making your videos.
Thanks John
Красота!!!
Beautiful country Greg.
Thanks for the story.
Love the flying and the country!
Thank you
Awesome footage, as always!
Thank you Doug
As always, great stuff!
Really appreciate what you do with these videos. I am building a Javron Super Cub pretty similar to yours. The videos are motivation. Will buy some stuff from your website for sure.
Excellent, keep it light and you are going to love it.
That was really good. Enjoyed every minute of it.
Thank you
That is gorgeous country! I really enjoy your commentary
Thank you
I've have lost a hundred hours of video, all because I was using bargain memory cards. Never again! Cheers from Winnipeg. (enjoyed the video!)
I thought I was using good ones, the ones Gopro recommends but I am so frustrated at this point. I have just now bought 4 different higher end ones as a test to see if it makes a difference probably should have done that 12 months ago...
Such a cool ride!
Somewhere I have some Damart thermals. I've had them since I was in my teens in upstate ny. I've never needed to be warmer than those with just about any jacket if I was moving around. Splitting wood was too much activity for a jacket and it would just be the Damart longsleeve on top with no jacket or shell and whatever I originally had on for pants in subzero weather. But you can get them in lower classes that the subzero ones.
Absolutely beautiful. You are living my dream. Wish I could fly with you. Is Bush Flying, North Fork of the Johnday River available on DVD? I would like to purchase it. You have me hooked on your videos. I'll be watching them frequently now that I found them. Thank you making them. God bless you. Wayne
Really love your stuff. Totally jealous of off airport opportunities in the west. BTW, went to your website and was looking at the soft caps but it said they had metal buckles in the back. Boy, those bore a hole in the back of my head. If you could add a pic of the clasps on the different hats that'd help me figure which ones I might be able to purchase. Just a thought. Really appreciate you sharing your adventures with us
You probably want one of the hats that says "Structured Twill Cap" if that style is acceptable. I have bought some of the different hats I sell and I like the Structured Twill Cap they are stretch to fit no buckle sold in size range. Anyway thanks for looking!
@@mauleguy Thx. I'll take a look.
Mule Deer and Elk Hunting looks fantastic, Thank you Greg! & your dad his place is perfect, dose he have water well if so how deep out of curiosity on that hill top?
He has a spring that produces 7 gallons per minute and a 500 gallon underground tank that he pumps from.
Just bought a Kit fox 4 will I ever fly like you ?? awesome !!
practice practice practice and you will
Its Cowboy TV,,,, Not Campfire TV 😁
you got me there
Neat vid. It’s time for a new intro though. Me ADHD never. ✈️🏄♀️🪂🎤🤟😂
Thanks for the video Greg! Another great one. When you're using heel brakes, is it difficult to transition from rudder control to differential braking? I'm assuming it would be easier with toe brakes? Will the new Cub be toe or heel? Cheers mate!
I actually do not find it anymore difficult and do have more hours with toe brakes. All my most recent time probably around 800 hours has been heel and the 4 place will be heel also. Cheers to you also!
It'd really suck for you to be one of "those guys", who landed in snow on wheels and flipped. You were obviously thinking the same thing! I'm landing 8 and 9K sites tomorrow and Sunday in SE Idaho, on Datum wheel skis/RANS S-7S. Not having any brakes at all sure makes off airport mountain flying....interesting.
Have fun be Safe my friend, uphill landings and downhill take offs.
Another great video! Thanks for sharing. Why don't bush tires have any tread? Were most/all of the spots you landed on this video BLM land? Have you ever returned to your plane from a hike to find wildlife in/on/around it? Thanks again!!
Tread would probably throw a lot more up in the propeller, wings tail feathers. Without onXmaps I don't know, no one is out there, like most places if I see people I leave. Never had a problem with wild life around the airplane.
Question about your Sportcat Heater. Would you suggest it over a setup like the Northern Campanion type pre heat? I was about to build my own NC until I saw the Sportcat in your video and I know you have plenty of cold Alaska time.
It really depends on what you want. The upside with a NC is multiple fuels, no need to carry propane and the problems with propane when it is really cold. Paul Claus and I used it on the Iditarod Trail with the super cub down to -40 and they did work well. But we did each have I think 8 bottles of propane and that takes up a lot of space. For some reason it is what Paul wanted to take and I had no experience so I went with his judgement. I don't need to pre-heat very often so for me it is perfect. The upside is you put it in late the night before and it is no hassle in the cold in the morning. Just pull it our let it cool down and your ready to go.
I'm here for the story about the video.
Thank you! I am glad
what 360 camera are you using?
What does the Cub weigh? Fixed pitch prop?
1079 with out belly pod
Hey Gregg, what psi do you run your tires at?
Depends, if i am landing on big rocks or rough terrain. Big rocks (volley ball to basket ball size) 2-3 psi, rough bumpy terrain 4-5 psi then my Acme shocks are doing there thing
I’d love to follow you on Microsoft flight simulator. Do you know if you’re home airstrip is on the simulator?
I am guessing not but I do not know
Why have you migrated away from the maule?
First of all a Maule is a great airplane for a multitude of reasons but I find myself enjoying the Super Cub for playing more then I ever have any other airplane. Most of my time is spent playing so I figured I might as well fly what I like best. Bushwacker 1.0 weighed in at 1239 empty on 31" Bushwheels and an 84" metal propeller. That was probably one of the lightest big wing Maules (experimental, built by me) that has ever been in the air. My current cub weighs 1079, that is a big difference, if this cub was on 31" tires it would be around 1030 pounds empty. Bushwacker 1.0 and 2.0 did very well but for all around pure enjoyment the Super Cub is more fun. I do not want to own two airplanes for many reasons so I am trying to get the Super Cub feel from the 4 place Super Cub. This should fit my mission better then Bushwacker 1.0 or 2.0 but the proof is in the pudding as they say so I won't know the answer for probably more than a year. If for some reason the 4 place is not the answer for me I have just built an airplane that will sell for around 300K so it will still be a win either way. I keep the narrow body cub and make more trips if that is the case.
@@mauleguy thanks for taking the time.
Hey what happened to your high Sierra fly-in video?
I pulled it down, I want to support aviation and I had a lot of negative feedback. I will pull videos from time to time, it's not the first and won't be the last to get yanked when maybe I overstep or come off as an ass:)). I make videos for myself first and sometimes my sense of humor does not come through.
You lived in Alaska for a time: Did you ever need light therapy while you were there?
I probably did, Winter time I was working retail for a home improvement store. If I did get outside it seemed daylight started about 10 am and night time started about 3:30 pm on the shorter days of the year.
