What a great moment. She'd been troubled by so many injuries before, picked up medals here and there, but 2004 was magic!

To come back at 34 and do what she did after all he injuries was incredible. I sadly missed this race as I was at the Reading Festival, but saw the first one and was so happy when she won, she has been the most deserved Sports Personality of the year in recent times I think.

Kelly Holmes was grat at those olympic games.
Maria Cioncan of Rumania did a great job to get the bronze too, it´s a shame she died in 2007 due to a car accident.

Whilst waiting for the bus to school in the morning, we'd see Kelly fly past us on her morning run in Hildenborough. That was the years of 2000 and 2001. As kids we never thought we were witnessing a future double olympic champion. Whilst doing my summer job in pizza express in Tonbridge, I had the pleasure of serving her when she came to eat a couple of times :)

I remember when I first watched this race. I was confident she would win because of how she ran the 800m. Despite using the same tactics the others could not defeat her.

True story , me my mates grew up in tonbridge next town over from where Kelly did , she went to our school left before us being older , one day at a local running track she was practicing on with a lady who was a teacher from our school , my friend Ben decided that she wasn’t that quick and challenged her to a race of 400 metres , Kelly had all ready run 15/20 laps , anyway my mate Ben had to go home to change his top because of the sick over it when he gave up in the first 300 metres , even now we remind him the time he nearly beat her !

There were two athletes in the 2004 Olympic Women's 1500m final that also appeared in the 2009 World Championships, Natalya Yevdokimova of Russia and Natalia Rodriguez of Spain, the latter athlete that originally won the race in Berlin but was disqualified for tripping the Ethiopian athlete Gelete Burka.

taking nothing away from kelly holmes - it was a great achievement in athletics, but i dont reckon "the greayest achievement in british distance running" is justified if that includes the performances of seb coe - who raised the bar over four different distances, two of which (800 and 1000) where records that have only been beaten by one atlete a piece in nearly 30 years (i think this is true in the 1000m, but i may be wrong), taking nothing away from kelly though - it was a great achievement

Foster never fulfilled his true potential and bottled it in the olympics. Don't get me wrong here, I have a tremendous admiration for Kelly Holmes, she made these olymics for me.
However Foster seems obsessed with making ridiculous comparisons between men and women (typical BBC).
When a female athlete made a great time in a marathon, the idiot Foster went back as far as he could (many decades) to find a male marathon runner and said she would have beat him. Try learning about gender politics.
