    Installed 25mm risers today. Clutch cable seemed a little tight at full lock but sliding in the perch seems sufficient. Thanks for the vid! Also, in case anyone needs it, torque for the handlebar clamps is 20Nm and 40Nm for the risers.

    I bought the risers you linked to in a reply to a comment here; all's good with the different bolts which were easy to find. FWIW, I measured the bar risers I received and I couldn't find anything about them that measured 22mm even if the ad said they were 22mm. More like 28mm. But they worked if i moved the lever slightly to the right as you suggest.

    Just fitted mine today, super easy, 30 minutes tops, allowing for how tight the original riser bolts were, I was freaking that I might strip them somehow, so took it extremely cautiously. The amount of rust at the bottom of the original 'riser' bolts was rather concerning on a 1 year old bike, so maybe folks should whack a bit of grease around the base of the risers, as that is where the water can get in, and it can't get back out.
    I did however hit what seemed to be a major snag. When I went to start the bike, I couldn't turn the key. When fiddling around, I somehow moved that plastic shield that is in front of the ignition. In a panic I thought the entire ignition barrel had dropped, and I started sweating, but it was just that the plastic shield had somehow got pushed up, stopping the key from going in fully.
    Mentioning it in case anyone else comes along thinking of doing the risers, so there is more knowledge shared.
    Just the bar risers alone made a huge difference, I can stand (I'm 6ft) without having to bend my neck to get my head up. Once I fit the lowered pegs this wee bike will be a beast offroad! Yeehaaa.

    Even though this is a late commit, I put on the 1 1/8” riser and man what a difference that little bit can make.
    Like others having a problem with the clutch cable I ended up sliding the clutch lever in a 1/2”. The directions say to run the cable a quicker way. Humm, quicker not shorter. Anyways I really couldn’t see a “quicker” route. Sliding the clutch lever in seemed to work. I’ve seen others that bought a longer cable.
    So now at 6’ I can stand up without being crouched over. Still looking at straightening out the pegs though

    Hey just clicked in here to ask if you have had the new ECU flash done? I had my bike in for something else and I asked if they could do the new update. But I’m telling you I pulled out expecting nothing from the ECU flash….. it’s like a whole new bike.
    The jerky throttle response at low speeds in 1-2 gear is completely gone. The fuel is delivered way more evenly throughout all the gears. I could go on and on. I’m absolutely blown away by how much better the bike is now. It’s really so drastic and so much better words just can’t describe it you have to feel it to understand.
    And If you disagree then all I can think is maybe my bike was messed up from the factory ? But I think that’s impossible it’s a computer program in the end. Also I’ve heard dozens of people talk about the stalls (totally gone) , the jerky throttle , etc.
    Oh and also the extreme engine breaking is gone , now it feels like a normal big adventure bike with just smooth engine breaking not jerk your head around if your not careful. Which I had totally gotten used to and mastered but boy is it nice now. The entire experience just feels more smooth and the power doesn’t wind out in the low gears and spread so long in the high gears. It’s just more like what every other motorcycle I’ve ever owned was like.

    Hi Matt,
    I’m thinking of getting a KTM 390 adv and have been watching your posts.
    Would you recommend the 390 having one yourself or would you recommend a different brand? Pros and cons of the bike given your experience would be welcome 😁

    • @advmatt
      @advmatt  3 роки тому +3

      That is a tough question to answer directly. I think it depends on the kind of riding you plan to do. The areas I think there may be better bikes is long distance touring and aggressive offroad riding. I really like mine, I haven't regretted the purchase one second. I rode mine in some really aggressive terrain and thoroughly enjoyed camping off of it. There are a lot of pros and only a few cons. The biggest pro in my opinion is the weight. A sub 400 pound adventure bike is so much easier to handle than a a bike in the high 500s. The two cons that come to mind are the allow wheels, but spoke wheels are on the way and single cylinders vibrate more and require being ridden harder to get the most out of them. It is hard to be comprehensive here but this a good video idea. Thanks for watching.

    • @newburybiker8852
      @newburybiker8852 3 роки тому +2

      @@advmatt thanks for your honest reply on your bike.
      I’m taking the 390 out for a second ride in January, I found the bike a little vibrating on the first ride but was impressed at how light and well balanced it was. It also had some get up and go if you reved it up to about 8 thousand rpm. I took it up to 70mph on a A road and it had lots left but the wind at 70 was not good due to the lack of a decent wind screen.
      I’m hoping to get a test ride on a Honda CB500X as it’s got all the things the KTM has not got like twin cylinder and a better wind screen and faring, but has a lot more weight to carry. I don’t know yet how the bike feels in relation to weight and balance. I think a lazy torquey ride may suite me but I’m just concerned about the weight of the bike.
      I do lick your videos on the bike as you seem to be addressing all the concerns that I see I would have if I purchased a 390.
      Thanks 😊

    Hey Matt! Since my last post a week ago I found a new 390 Adventure and I'm picking it up tomorrow. At 6'2" I definitely need bar risers. Rox makes great adjustable risers that come in 1,2,3 and 4" heights. I'll be needing at least 2" and maybe more. I've read that you might be able to get away with 2" risers without replacing the clutch cable. Do you have any idea how high one might be able to go without replacing the clutch and the brake cable? Appreciate your input. I'm really enjoying your channel.
