- The Harley Benton Guitar MAX Fusion is being resold on Reverb for hundreds of dollars more than they are new! Is this a bad thing? A good thing? Are these guitars really selling for this much? Should Thomann raise their prices? We're going to take a look at this, and some of the other Harley Benton guitars that this is happening with because it's not just my signature guitar.

Exactly! Same goes for luxury watches like certain models from Rolex. If you just have to have the latest one and are stupid enough to pay almost 30K for a watch that has a list price of 12500, then be my guest! No skin off my nose! But I guess a lot of them have learned the hard way when they finally out-priced themselves and people stopped buying them and prices dropped! 😂😂😂

Reverb Shipping is often a rage factor for buyers when sellers typically spend 20 bucks and do the bare minimum job, then charge 150+. Max's guitar is sold underpriced in normal-land and it is loaded on..everything. Toeman sells it low because they have enormous purchasing power, but the guitar stacks up favorably and often superior to competition. Scarcity and awesomeness command a premium if you buy on the secondary market. For 700 bucks + reverb shipping, id expect Max to personally fly it to me, land in my backyard, and hand me the guitar though.

You can't blame the seller. When you go to a gas station and buy a candy bar and a drink for inflated prices because you don't want to go to the grocery store right up the street then you have made the decision that it was worth to you and that's why they are able to charge that much. If I have a glass of water in in a restaurant it's worth nothing but that same glass of water in the middle of the desert is worth whatever I say it's worth and whatever someone is willing to pay. Supply and demand at it's finest

My cheap superstrat from Sawtooth with Floyd Rose, Wilkinson hardware cost me less then 300$ on their 50% sale, shipping included
The set up was spot on, no fret buzz, no intonation issues, no rough fret ends, just a low action shredder
I did however swap out the pickups for some Seymour Duncan’s
how does the floyd rose hold up? stays in tune with heavy use?

It is silly to charge 700 for that guitar not because it isn't worth the money but because the main appeal of Harley Benton products is that incredible price:quality relation. I admit that your signature guitar is gorgeous and packed with great specs that could easily put it at the 700 bucks mark or higher, but then there is say, the Cort X500 Menace that is also a shredder's guitar with Floyd Rose 1000 AND Seymour Duncan pickups that goes for around 540 bucks so eh, those scalpers are just silly.

Reselling on reverb at a higher price isn't really proof that the guitar is undervalued. What you're paying for on reverb is the *convenience* of not waiting for a new guitar to come into stock at Thomann. The answer is not Thomann raising the price, it's ordering the guitar in higher quantities to meet demand.
Everything else aside your sig guitar is really nice. You did a great job with the specs. Also the Golden Age Flight Museum was cool.

This issue is crazy in the states. And the shipping costs are mad. Guys exercise some patience and go with Thomann, this way you won't care about reverb resale prices.
Another thing to note is that the people asking outlandish prices probably won't get the figure they want, then after months and months when the hype is gone, you can pick it up at a more reasonable price.
Personally I think reverd is a platform where people speculates a lot the prices of the instruments. The shipping prices are sometimes exaggerated.

It is amazing that the Fusion-III with the EMG pups you showed from Reverb is going for that much. I bought one of those a couple of years ago and got it for less than $400 shipped (they don't charge any tax for shipping to the US). I guess I should put mine up for sale!!
I remember a few years back Max did a video on a Amazon Firefly Tele that was always sold out at the $185.00 mark. Jokers at the time on eBay we’re trying to resell these things at $350.00…not comparing Max’s axe to a Firefly but sometimes folks will really lose their glue in certain situations !!!! 🎸🤘🎶

Right now in this moment I'm on the German Thomann site. And the guitar costs 499€ and it needs 7-9 weeks to deliver. Greetings from Germany,🤘
A couple things on this.
1. Thomann makes buying internationally very easy. I bought a 1x12 cab from them and the fees came out to like $50 if I remember correctly. So for a guitar I would say it has to be cheaper to buy because while it’s a longer product it’s not as heavy as amp parts. I could very well be wrong though. I bought the cab in 2017 I think so that’s based on costs and prices from then.
2. By paying the prices that people are, they’re not necessarily paying inflated prices, they’re paying for the convenience to be able to have it shipped domestically and not have to wait. This concept is the same in other products as well. Example: you can save money and change the oil for your car yourself or you can pay more to have more of your personal time back and not deal with how messy the process can be. Again I think it’s based more on a conevenience approach rather than just pricing it high just because.

I like the transparency about affiliate links and the income, and why not get a little back for the work you put in. I used to have about 30 guitars and only ever played 2 or 3 of them, so now I only have 2 and spend much more time just practicing. These seem like decent value axes though.
The sold listing show 3 that have actually sold. $525, $520, and $450. All used condition.
Because of our scuffed currency value here, the Fusion-III EMG cost like $600 with shipping included...
This same crap happens with alot of things now days..companies introduce things online, they get bought up quick and then jack up prices on the resale market..like 75$ collectors doll my daughter wants sold out online in a couple hours, now to get it you're paying 160$+ online
It only pleases me Max because I have 3 fusion guitars included the Max. So I enjoy what you are telling us. I personally would not think about it to by the expense option. I waited 3 mnds for my Max.
I was at a local shop and they had the IYV Green LP for almost 300.00, used! People are always looking for a way to make a fast buck.

This shit went on with the PS5 but the prices were straight up gouging. Bots would buy them up when a drop would come & then they were online for $1000 or more. So yea, I have an issue with this.

Not surprised this happens in pretty much every hobby. I remember when guitar shops would turn away the Squier Hello Kitty guitar and you could pick one up for $50.00 now they are any where from $200.00 up to $700.00+ and you have to be careful because they started to counterfeit them! I will never pay a premium for a guitar. I will wait until I find something I feel is a reasonable price. I have seen people buy an item for the inflated scalper price and loose their shirt when the market for that hobby drops and it will.
This IS an eye opener! I will never purchase any instrument here in the USA without checking international prices...and I won't shed a tear for local merchants when they whine over losing customers. Loyalty is supposed to work two ways, not just to pad the pockets of unethical businesses. These guys are as bad as used car dealers!

Is there any way to block certain sellers from my Reverb account? Apparently not! I'd prefer NOT to deal with scalpers like this now or in the future! And they're advertising it as $779.00 WITH $124.00. Actual retail price $449.00 with $80 shipping? WTF? Even with a $150.00 case that's $320+ markup on a pre-sale guitar?
I see this all the time regarding any Harley Benton guitars and basses on Reverb and eBay.
These sellers are scalping them for double, even triple the price of a brand new instrument that you can buy from Thomann in Germany.
And what you are buying is likely somebody elses junk that is already a damaged and totally unplayable instrument. (This happened to me,..TWICE)
Harley Benton's greatest issue is that once they sell out of a particular limited model and color, the buyer is out of luck.
Unless they re-issue a particular out-of-production model and bring it back,.....you'll never see it in their line up again.

I have your signature guitar after 10 weeks wait. I friggin love it. Well worth the wait - I live in Denmark the price in EU is 500 Euroes (540 USD) No hard case. Transport included. Run and buy you get a lot of guitar for your money, I got a Firefly ES35 copy from China its nowhere as good as this one. This axe is great sounding, has perfect neck is extremely versatile and stays in tune for a very long time. Its my go to guitar now.

People will give a high price for your signature guitar on Reverb because people love Guitar Max Channel, hell I have already bought two guitars that you featured on your channel a Laguna and a Slick SL52 in crimson ash....and i am very happy with both guitars...you definitely know what you are talking about when it comes to quality affordable guitars, keep up the good work and I'll have to build warehouse to store all my gear...lol
This is all too familiar, remeber when PRS released the Silver Sky SE, every high profile reviewer
on UA-cam was "Gifted" one whilst dealers could't fulfill the preorders
it was hyped way beyond it's worth., but the buyers with more money than sense were paying
scammers way over MRSP just to get one.
Now the same is happening with your signature guitars with preorders for large quantities by the scammers
hoping to find buyers desperate and stupid enough to pay way over thomanns price.
This can easily be stopped by Thomann, one guitar per customer and you can't reorder until all other
customers have recived there preorders.
I never buy anything on a preorder, the seller has a chunk of your money but no stock, that is stupid.
I want inspect a guitar before buying, not hope that it is not a bad sample, Thomann have massive
stocks of B grades i wonder why?

There's always a little more demand at the start of availability of something, and someone will buy it and try to make a few extra bucks. Then things even out as supply hits the market, and those willing to pay extra for early adoption already have one.
Hard to stop normal reality from happening, this applies to many many things. The best way would be for the company themselves to do it. Start out $300 high, then lower the price over a few months. That way they get the money from their hard work from the early adopters. But then that can sometimes look bad too after the price goes down later.
No perfect way to do it. Just make them as fast as possible and satisfy initial demand then it should even out. Doubt there is a better way to do it.
My two cents, from having looked at the ideas many times from other items in other fields. You just can't 100% match supply to demand at the variable rate needed to do this. Even when something does work out near perfectly, it's more luck than actual skill, it could have easily gone much worse they just got lucky.

I've noticed here in Canada that the prices have gone up in general a Epiphone custom alpine white was 650$ at Long and Mquade the biggest music store in Canada with stores in every province and more in bigger cities like Toronto the city i live in, now they are 1.149$ before taxes .But the squire contemporary HH FR with roasted maple neck is the same price. Is Gibson/Epiphone price gouging us because Epiphones newer guitars are getting better reviews than Gibson models and they are in pristine shape when bought by either stores or the normal guy. so what do you think are they taken advantage of the hype of Epiphone models being better via social media like Facebook UA-cam etc. would love to hear your comments on this matter......Canadian Fan.

If you raised the price less people would buy them. It would stop the price hiking then Thomann would be sitting on unsold stock.
While I like Reverb, I stick to buying old stuff that's out of production or just *_decently priced_* secondhand stuff. I tend to avoid in-demand new releases on the site. This is exactly why- because any more, resellers snap up every last thing and flip it like some money-monger in an online game auction house. Except in this case it jacks up real money prices on real people. Not participating in that.
This is the problem these days, it took 9 months to get my Adam Jones Gibson. If I wanted to pay 2k more I could have gotten one off Reverb or Ebay right away, I don't think so I would never pay these bottom feeders., I can wait or get something else.
So I get it, I take it out of the box and I can not believe it, it's perfect, in tune, I had to set the intonation and that took me about 20 minutes. The smoothest neck and the frets are incredible, I'm really impressed, it sounds great through my BOSS KATANA 2,I couldn't be happier with this guitar, it is well worth the price.
If the Fusion has the case and a recent Set up with new strings it's not that awful... Specially if they are inspecting it before shipping it to the final buyer...

First see if they sell before hawking a higher price, just becasue they ask dosent mean they sell and there will always be the one off here and there for someone who just cant wait and dosent care. Maybe sales will go down in realtion to other offerings if you raise the price or maybe youll sell a whole lot more of them in the long run just leaving the price where its at.

Patience is a virtue and I’ll just go with thomann. I love the design of your guitar but I won’t pay someone else scalping prices, they didn’t even put a dime of time into MAKING the guitar or design.

any market with a lot of hype will attract scalpers, so it's expected. some people are high-income individuals and to them $900 is like $9.00 to a normal person. i say let it happen... if you are on a budget, just get on the waiting list, its not a very long wait for the guitar anyway.
Market is flooded with inexpensive gear and prices are falling. They can ask ridiculous prices and they do but people aren't paying them. It's a buyer's market.

I don't think they should or would rase the price, anyone can ask whatever they want for a guitar, doesn't mean they'll get it. I have an original 1989 Kramer Nightswan and I've seen those go for 5k to 9K on Reverb. I still won't sell mine, and I don't think these guys are getting that money for them. When Kramer rereleased them they weren't even asking 1K for them and I'm sure they know about thoes on Reverb.
Unfortunately the rereleased Nightswan Nightswan is nothing like the original. I was all excited till I played one. It's nice, but it's not to original specs at all. Wish they called it a new model instead, I have the Kramer Dave Sabo signature and absolutely love it! I added a bunch of Fu-tone Titanium parts and brass big block and noiseless red springs and it's an amazing guitar.
Make the other color matte black with EMG's just like the Fusion III EMG HT (which I already have) but with a Floyd Rose, and maybe neck thru, and I'll definitely get one. Also fuck scalpers, I can wait.
$700 on reverb is actually not that bad of a deal considering I'm getting $159 hard case

This is the effect of the reason I don't search for the FF baritone for sale anymore. They buy the 12 you have for sale and mark them up. This made me lose 100% interest in FF guitars. Sad right?
Please don't buy Harley Bentons at higher than list price from these Re-sellers (Or any gear for that matter!) The whole premise with HB is that they are such good value. And in this limited stock case you're not just encouraging overcharging, but also buying up of the available stock. If this pays off for the resellers, they are likely to pre-order more and more of the already difficult to get guitars. And then even less people who would buy the guitars for themselves will be able to get their hands on one. It's not unlike real estate or concert tickets...

I went on Thoman to buy a Fusion 3 EMG and saw that they had a Signature Max Fusion in B stock,I've wanted one for months,new was still 6 to 8 weeks out, What the hell,I ordered it.
YES! I saw that! They are selling them for $700. I'm telling you to grab a Harley Benton while you can. They are not going stay at a low price forever. MAX's signature is REALLY nice. By the way.... I see a paradigm shift happening. Brand name means d!ck when you can get a much higher quality product at a 10th of the price. The name on the head stock means nothing if the neck is sh!+ Like my Ibanez S that came with a neck that looks like it was made from the stump in grandpa's back yard. The Amarok I bought last month is so much higher quality. If I were playing a gig, do I want a banana 🍌 necked guitar with a popular name brand on the head stock or a name no one is familiar with but a perfectly built 5 piece neck that I can trust won't pop out of tune half way through the set?

Well the shipping is higher than 80 dollars its a out 110 dollars to nc and with the case added is another 80 dollars for a cheap case so your looking at 449 plus 110 that's 559 plus another 80 for a case so thats a total of 639 plus a hoe error many week wait

And, we both play guitar... Well... my guitar playing is nowhere near yours. But! Your HB guitar is something special, and I'd like to own it just because it was designed by you... So, I think I'll put in my order. I bought an AIO guitar during Covid, because you recommended it... an SC model, and really love it. HB's are very good for the money, too. But, I'd NEVER buy a guitar on Reverb.... Nor should anyone else. Period!!!
