I love Godfrey, but it wasn't merely colorism. The girl before Rosa Parks was a pregnant teenager. Teenage pregnancy - in the 1950s/60s, a pregnant teenager? The media would've slaughtered her. Plus folks, including Black folks, were mad conservative back then (still are). That was another major reason they didn't put her out there and instead rode with Rosa Parks.
Very interesting. What blows my mind is that we were always taught the lone wolf scenario. Rosa Parks was tired, fed up, and wouldn't get up. Her actions were portrayed as individual and spontaneous, because Black folks aren't supposed to be organized and strategic.
@@rob_cd it was actually about 8 women who went up against the city regarding this case, whether she was pregnant or not it is definitely by design that only a specific one is singled out and that’s sad

I went to South Carolina State with Ralph Abernathy's niece in the 90's and got to spend the night at his house one weekend. I didn't even know who he was, when his wife asked me if I knew him and his family. I said no. She was nice about it though and gave me a lesson on his family. I felt so dumb for not knowing a piece of my own history. After that, I made it a point to find out all that I could about me and my culture.
