Truck makers/producers seem to have forgotten that the majority of truck owners are single truck owner operators. The economics in electric trucks is nowhere near what we can get out of diesel power unfortunately, nor is there any charging infrastructure available for us. Then you have the price of purchase. 3-4 times higher than a diesel truck and a third less load capacity. Understand, I want electric trucks on the road. I drive my Nissan Leaf privately. We need to go green on heavy transport but the price has to drop significantly and the government’s need to get going and supply us with infrastructure before that can happen. Just my Pennie’s worth…..

If we only had a form of electric transport for goods that does not require a battery and charging infrastructure..
I absolutely agree that we should invest in further developing electric road vehicles and public charging infrastructure. But we must also consider utilizing our existing electrified railroads to their max capacity to minimize the amount of trucks (and cars) on the road.

I mean they can, just change the truck roof into solar panel. But the problem, that if the roof change into solar panel, driver cockpit temperatur will be more hot than normal roof

Thank god for the initiative! Climate change isn’t a joke. We can now witness people leaving their lands due to rising sea levels. Here where I live our storms are on a completely different level, it’s much more horrendous and we often times end up with a flood that would last for a week. Not to mention, the rise in temperature when it hits 12.
Oh and just an added information: there actually is a factory somewhere in the west that has the capability of harvesting CO2. It’s a great invention but it’s appalling to know that we as humans would have to create these factories just to be able to fix this perennial problem. We acted too damn slow!

Mere charging infrastructure will not help
The basic energy should come from green sources
Technology should improve something like removable battery that can be exchanged for a charged battery from charging station like a present day fuel pump

The goal is that all new trucks sold should run on energy from renewable sources. This mean we will actively support a significant increase of energy from renewable sources, such as green electricity and in the future also green hydrogen.

@@volvotrucks Fair enough it would be nice to have hydrogen energy but as it is EV's arent quite green nice to see such a large channel respond to critiques, Yalls commercials are on a whole different level though. always interesting to see what you guys come up with

A thing I wish happened to the trucks is that they look the same as the others and have speakers that can simulate the sound of the truck that you want. I think many customers don't like elecric cars and trucks for that reason, no sound, so there is no feeling of you pushing the throttle, except that you go forward. And I really mean it, if they look the same as the others, many more may think they look good, if they have some sort of sound simulation, it may feel like you are driving a normal truck. Because alot of people says they will miss the sounds if there will only be electric cars here and there.

Volvo has invested too much in this nonsense with electric trucks and now they are disappointed that this is not working out as they have literally dreamt. It is obvious that electric is not a viable solution for reducing pollution,. This is just a mad trend that the bright managers in Volvo are dreaming to follow. Meanwhile, they are not answering the obvious questions: where will the power for all these electric trucks come from, when even without having them on the streets the electricity sources are almost overwhelmed by industrialization and urbanization? How will the infrastructure support trucks that are staying in the parking lots charging forever, when per today these parking lots are too less, too overcrowded, and do not provide even basic necessities for trucks and drivers? In how much time will the pollution from producing the batteries will cancel the pollution created by combustion? And many many other questions. There could be many other solutions for more friendly environmental transportation. All they are now doing is exactly the opposite. Volvo is hitting the fists on his chest with these stupid electric trucks like they have discovered the engine that runs only on rainwater.
I just hope that their competition will come with something better than this nonsense. And they will come soon for sure. Money thrown on the window, just so they can keep their managers entertained .. typically Volvo Trucks.

Electromobility will play an important role for local as well as regional transport and the development of batteries and charging infrastructure will be important factors in its expansion. However, there is no one silver bullet solution available to cut carbon emissions. We will see a gradual introduction of alternative drivelines including battery driven trucks and gas driven trucks over the next couple of years. Electromobility using hydrogen fuel cells has the potential to reduce the need for batteries in heavy long-haul transport in the longer term. See our FAQ about electric trucks here: www.volvotrucks.com/en-en/trucks/alternative-fuels/electric-trucks/faq.html
