No so, it depends of the vehicle usage. Long haul, maybe. Regional is fine. As highlighted, the most important now is to build the charging infrastructure
Zzz Zzz sorry boss truck stil loading...550 km with an empty truck... 😂 but I hope there are some foodshops by the loading places. Normal you can self decide where to stop for your break, now you must stop where you can load. And loading in you free time. When you tank diesel, its working time... just saying.
He said at the end, 46 minutes from 26% to 100% so with the 350kwh chargers... since drivers need to stop two times and it will have better range in the summer it seems like its doable today if the infrastructure catches up, not for every load, but for a large portion. My only worry is how well batteries hold up, charging them to 100% is not ideal but we are getting very close and I think that issue is gonna be a thing of the past soon anyway, batteries will last so long that the truck it self will be ready for the scrap heap before the battery eventually.
no. cold isnt a problem whe you have a vehicle which is on the road for the majority of the time. the battery temp is in the mormal working as it is continually used.what could cause a problem is letting it sit in 24 minus for a day or two. scania has also involved themselfes in infrastructure, and infrastructure is built by the day now. since summer e have added charger form the berybsouth of Sweden to the very north, and they are built for long distance trucking.
Sorry but it's not a time for this technology maybe in city it would be okey but i dont see a big company that will be interested in a truck that can do 300km max on a charge and will have to wait 2 h for a full charge. Thats nice toy nothing elese.
Scania have proved that electric trucks will work. We now need to get the infrastructure in place to make it the best option for business accross Europe.
So you drove 189 miles the first day. That would pay a US trucker $11.40. So he's not going to eat today. Which is OK in your book, because he'll need to take his 45 minute break, babysitting a charger! Total trip 357 miles, or $21.50 total in 2 days. I drive 357 miles before 8 o'clock in the morning. How is it a 45 minute break, if you're working!!! WhoTF is this helping? I love EV cars. I love V8 Scanias! My Great Uncle drove the first Hybrid Porsches 80+ years ago. Why not a Hybrid truck, like Edison Motors is doing? Do you think China will electrify Africa, for Scania's trucks? Not with the Chukudu making a huge mark on the Dark Continent! lol!
$11.40 for 189 miles? Either that's a scam, or you're lying. European prices are much, much different (and vary country by country). 45 min break is mandatory every 4 and a half hours, so it's ok to recharge during that time
@@Utentedeboledellastrada Over the road drivers here in the US, make 60 cents a mile, and there's no paid break time. So what does a current diesel driver's 56 minute break look like? Eat, a Nap, go take a shit? But this guy has to stand there, like when you're fueling, But for 45 minutes! Again unpaid here.
@@bennyboogenheimer4553 I am sorry if US prices are that low, things are very different in EU. You don't have to stand by the truck while charging, you can take a nap, eat, do whatever you want! It's not like it stops charging or it gets stolen while you're not looking
European truck drivers get paid by the hour. They do not need to run 100s of miles to make a living, or live in their trucks. This is a road test by Scania and Commercial Motor for promotional reasons. The terrain, weather and country type roads prove this. It is showing the advances in Battery life and range, here in cold weather. Will Shiers is a well respected international truck journalist. The top up of batteries at break time is ideal as it is 45 minutes. You can as others mentioned plug it in and walk away. You can not book it as work but most companies will pay a set fee for fueling time on a daily basis. Pre trips and post trips are paid as you are on duty all time and these are listed on the electronic log print outs. You can not compare driving in Europe to North America. 🇺🇸🏴
Hej Scania! Don't ask for a charging infrastructure, develop it! Tesla, only a start-up company then, took the challenge and did it! They built the world widest, best, and cheapest charging network! Then, for Heaven's sake, don't complain that the infrastructure is not yet up to it, build it!!! Also, your e-trucks' ranges are still way insufficient. You need a range allowing the driver to drive his Europe's maximum of 9 hours, with a 45 mn pause. So a full-load range of around 9 * 90 = 810 km MINUS whatever can be topped up during that 45 mn pause, i.e. about 150 km, maybe 200 km, PLUS a 10% winter allowance and a 10% "peace of mind" allowance, for a total of about 800 km real-world range! Strange enough... that range is precisely that of the Tesla Semi?!?! Have they perhaps done a similar calculation before finalizing their design? Don't let the Texans leave you in the dust! From Switzerland with love!
Proud to be part of Scania
For a silly moment I thouth you had 550 Km of range!
Did I miss the part where you said if you had a 'load' in that Trailer, or just the weight of the batteries...??
There will be some good ol boy hate in this thread no doubt. Pretty neat guys, nice unit!
From Indonesia, scania is very good 😘😘😘😘😘

550km in 2 days… good luck selling that to companies
so true 😅

Same as a diesel truck but better, typical comment from a journalist not a driver.
Important question as others have asked. What load was it carrying, if any?
How long was your charging stop.. love the scania

And you could put that thing in the 12 volt plug and get V8 sound 😊
The future is electric!
scania for everrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!!!

34 tons, that's not empty.

Maybe a great thing but the infrastructure ain't there yet....
I suppose that if EVERY truck destination had chargers at EVERY DOOR, drivers could recharge while loading/unloading......but....
