Just watched this as I bought a wheel that needs some restoration. Out of all the videos I watched I liked this one the best. I thought it was a great idea when you used wood dust and glue to fill in the cracks and gouges. Great video !
Thanks for Watching my friend. I suggest that when you put a varnish, better use a cloth if you don't have spray, and thinned down the varnish so it wont have any brush marks.
good job. im about to renovate a raid kba 70075 wheel, which has cracks like yours in the places where the spokes go into the wood. i have a question. did you just fill out those cracks with the sawdust and glue mix or did you fill it up and clamp the cracks together with vices?
@@SuperPakalja I don't remember clamping it down, the gap is not too bad. But if you have a bad gaps, fill it with wood glue then you can clamp it and you don't have to fill it with saw dust if the crack is closed
Lots of sand paper and polyurethane for the finish, I think I apply 7 coats. And it's better to use spray on this kind of project, because it's hard to avoid brush marks using a polyurethane. It took me almost 3 weeks, coz I have a day job and only working on it by night. Thanks for Watching.
Very nicely done Don. I'm doing a partial restoration of a Mercedes E320 steering wheel now. You've given inspiration.
Thank you for the nice comment my friend. Hope you subscribe to my channel. Keep safe and God bless.

Great job... I’m going to restore my wood steering wheel and make a wood center piece for it.
Thanks for Watching my friend.

Well worth the work

Yes I did, same wood dust from hand wheel. Thanks for Watching my friend.
@@DonDIYProject did you clamp it down while the glue was drying?
thanks!

Why not use some chemical varnish remover, and then fine sand it? Would that ruin the wood?
That's a great idea and it will make the work much easier. Didn't think of that. I don't think it will ruin the wood. Thanks for Watching.
"took a lot of time" yes we get it. But how long did it take, and what materials did you use for the job.
