this games story is hit or miss but the first ones is great idk whats he on about. cal rediscovering his roots and having him regain his abilities through reliving his trauma until u finally get to see order 66 is great plot progression. he just didnt like the sequence because he tried to break it lol, idk how he says objectively because if were talking OBJECTIVE than its pretty widely regarded that the first games story is pretty great. even the vader inclusion, he is the one responsible for all of their trauma, he tortured cere, corrupted trilla, and if he didnt show up at the end it wouldve been silly because its literally HIS base of operationswe just invaded. i also like star wars so theres that, the context definitely makes fallen order sing but even without it its still good, ive had friends who dont fw star wars really like this game and its story. i think joseph gets too caught up on trying to intellectualize games sometimes, especially its story. its one thing to hyperanalyze the gameplay decisions but a story is completely different. just cuz a story is formulaic and predictable at points doesnt make it bad, it just makes it archetypal, which is literally the backbone of every star wars movie. he also says he doesnt like SW movies which is fair, especially since a lot of these games story beats and dialogue riff off of moments from the original series. i get not liking it, but its definitely not objective.
Witcher video has to be done before the end of the year or he’s deleting everything. Plenty of streams on the channel NODJA, Hypothetical walrus and Man of Answers. Half life 2 and Hypnospace Outlaw is my recommendations. He also mentioned videos today so maybe more after Witcher?
Bode's motivations are terrible, but it does make logical sense. If they moved the Hidden Path and the Jedi archives to Tanaloor and started taking in refugees/fugitives of the empire and rebuilding the Jedi Order there, of course the empire would eventually come for them and attack the same way they attacked them on Jedha. It's just so unbelievably selfish that I have a hard time accepting that anyone could be that terrible unless they were an evil psychopath, which I don't because he clearly cares about his family. Also I don't know how or why you bashed through this brick wall of a playthrough with the purity perk on grandmaster difficulty. I skipped a lot to see the main story beats now that the fun part of breaking the game is over, watching someone redo the same parts over and over was kind of a slog if I'm being honest...I can't imagine it it not being a slog to play. Then again, you're the most stubbornly persistent gamer I think I've ever seen. I remember trolley-chan and sun station lol.
Sorry for resurrecting your dead comment but I came here to see what Joe's thoughts were on the game. Reading your comment, I wanted to say I don't think Bode is particularly an evil psychopath-I think he's just a stupid psychopath. He does not actually care about his family as evidenced by Kata complaining to Cal and Merrin that she does not like it on Tanalorr because it's lonely. Completely isolating yourself and your daughter to an anti-social cold planet all to yourself is sociopathic and straight up damages the development of your daughter. This along with his reckless behavior directly putting Kata in harms way during his battle with Cal and Merrin, I don't think he actually gives a flying fuck about her. The Bode twist is kind of lame but mostly because Bode is a cardboard box with a daughter he mentions once in the first 30 minutes of the game and maybe like one or two other times. If there was any actual build up and foreshadowing towards this, maybe I'd even like it. I think the best part of the games' writing is in the complication Cal and Merrin deal with of not wanting to orphan Kata in front of her like happened to them but there was great subtext given that Bode is probably an abusive father and Kata does not feel particularly safe with him. Too bad the game ends once it introduces one interesting thing.
yeah, i was kinda bummed to see the dark side segment was bugged because he skipped getting the pull. that segment is one of my favorite in the game, for a mission it turns from a soulslike to a hack and slash and that switch up felt great. even if bodes character sucks, i do think the setpieces it gave were worth it in some regard. sure cal coulda tapped in to the dark side in some other ways, but im glad it happened.
