It's interesting your point about black girls not being given opportunities for it in Japan. To this day I cannot think of a single female black foreign model/influencer type who is successful there
Yup. Had a black dude say something of similar affect in that whites can look good in whatever or for example cosplay as whatever but black girls should stick to black characters. Which black characters you ask? I think you know the answer… I talked to him about a convention in my country and he was like “why would I want to see black people cosplay” yeah…
@@ami4511 not surprised. Can’t think of any either. They love whiteness. People excuse it with the fact that Japan is majorly homogenous and they never see black people but if that were truly the case why do they favor whiteness….By that logic they wouldn’t see much white people either but yet they favor whiteness like blue eyes blonde hair etc. and also they never see black people but yet are able to take black likeness and showcase it? Come on now. There’s white dudes who get hired there just so the company can have a white persona lol. With that said, in Korea there is an upcoming mixed model who is iirc part kenyan and she actually LOOKS half black. and there’s also a black kpop idol. But you can imagine the anti black hate she gets. :/
im not gonna lie, as a black girl there are moments when I'm ashamed to admit to other black people (not all!) that i do x and y or listen to xy or don't listen to xy. its only recently that ive started to realize that the ones that shamed/laughed at me or side eyed me were just putting me in a box.
I cared a lot (I recently just discovered this) growing up but after a while I stopped caring specifically after I got to college ESPECIALLY when I went to a PWI for two years. All skinfolk ain’t kinfolk. I was teased for liking “white people things” “Asian people things” my entire life. After a while I realized that everyone doing the same thing and liking the same thing FOR THE SAKE of trying to fit in will get you nowhere. I’m not saying there’s anything wrong with genuinely liking what everyone else likes but I’m not about to follow a trend for the sake of fitting in if it costs me being uncomfortable
I don't like talking to other black people. Sounds rude but I talk and find community with like minded black folks only. Too many of us are toxic and will shame you for not twerking on a headstand with a 13x6 turquoise frontal and butterfly lashes in the welfare office with a dusty baby daddy.
I got bullied by my classmates last year because I don’t own a pair of Jordans or air forces. My wardrobe consists of knitted sweaters and I love to wear boots. You have no idea the amount of times my family calls me “white” because of it.
I used to always get called the white one too/it’s eventually doesn’t bother you anymore. Boots and knitted sweaters sounds cute I literally can’t afford to look how I want/hoodies and jeans in all black that’s it 😂
Individuality is not dead. Individuality was never a thing. Society has always largely been about conforming. Those who stepped outside the box, have always been shunned/ostracized to create their own niches. Social media once again just exacerbates what has always existed in our society - in this case, the need or push to conform.
The other day, my little sister was talking about a party she went to and that the music was trash. She said they were playing songs like Party in the USA and stuff. I told her that I know we know that song (we grew up on Disney) and that she should've danced too. My older sister said that that song is lame and that they should've played some NBA Young boy songs instead. I said that he's sucks because he hates BW (even the ones in his family), so my older sister basically said that it sucks that I'm acting white and that she wouldn't dance to Party in the USA either. All of this to say, we can't even be ourselves by ourselves anymore. :/
That's sad. I was talking to my daughter about this. I'm a GenXer and I just feel like everything is so narrow and confined now. I never thought this generation would be like this. I mean only one style of rap, same clothes, hair, etc. This is group think. What we saw as communism and lack of freedom. Don't be afraid to break from the herd.💗💙
understandable, but party is the usa came out over 10 years ago…nostalgic yes, but playing old Disney music would make me feel like a little kid lmao. disney vibes is not the way anymore. if they are playing “white music”, there’s endless white artists who have awesome music that has came out in the past couple months even, that would fit the party scene. not young miley Cyrus wearing American gear, pre trump, pre everything. i don’t listen to nba young boy but i do know he is current, with a more fresher sound despite the genre, it’s simply a different time. if it was 2010 i doubt party in the USA would be an L in the club lmao, the genre pop was ontop. now rap is ontop, and nba curates rap music, which is a genre known for their invigorating bass that you can feel through your veins depending on what speaker use. it all depends.
Party in the USA still slaps. I still rock out to Mulan soundtrack. People be shame about the music they really like because they believe people will think they are weird or childish... idc nor should others... your body moves to the sound of the music and if it happens to be Party in the USA then so be it.
My eyes widened when you talked about the diction/syntax. I've been saying for years now that people don't have much of a vocabulary anymore and just recycle words from the social media and the virtual zeightgeist.
When I was growing up as a kid in the 90s and early 2000s my vocabulary used to be so rich and diverse. I read so many books and loved to write. Now due to social media I ashamedly find myself talking in quips and “Internet language“. I know that much if not all of it comes from AAVE, but I don’t speak that way on the daily. And since most of my friends are in their 30s, we don’t sit down and have conversations anymore. I feel stunted and that makes me feel sad and stupid.
It's gotten to the point that I don't know who I'm looking at anymore. They all have had the same plastic surgery from the same surgeon. Same clothes, shoes, makeup. It's so bland.
@@renaissancewoman100 They literally will be in comment sections now recommending the same 4 plastic surgeons to other women. Like wow...this what we're doing now???
I think Doja can be added to this conversation because for the most part...she's just experimenting and expressing and people are formulating all these "theories" about her. It's annoying 😑
I just wish she would still keep her old look because it brought out her features…… she looked like a luxurious queen. Especially with her long hair and how fit and how healthy she looked. (just my opinion)
@@lagoonagoon5490 thats great for you but comments like this is what keeps individualism dead. you stating that she should stick to her old aesthetic and look because it “brings out her features more” pushes the narrative that people shouldnt do what they want for their sake but that they should do what looksappealing and or “flattering”. she looks like that because thats what SHE wants as an individual.
@@chaeryeong991 exactly. She still looks good. TO ME her features pop more when she doesn’t have hair but that’s just me. Like all the time it’s “I liked how they looked before” which is one reason why people fall into the trends in the first place. People making them feel bad because they don’t look how someone likes
Commonalities have now been monetized. The more people can relate to you or the more eyes you can get on you in an enjoyable way, the higher of a chance you have to be paid. Also, “sameness in appearance” kills me if I’m trying to look up makeup. It’s hard to find one of us unfiltered or with the same makeup as the rest of us.
Growing up I never wanted or cared to hang out with the rest of the black kids. I liked punk rock music and anime. I'm just glad that I never changed to fit in with others and that I didn't care I still don't care and never will care to fit in With stereotypical black folks. Now I mainly listen to Gospel music and some kompa, alternative , and afro beats. Alternative black folk should just form their own tribe and hang out lol
Same I liked rock music and anime/I still do But it was funny because the black ppl that would say I’m white/acting white Hardly spoke to me in the first place😂we weren’t even friends/they’d just show up out of no where to complain about something that has no effect on them
i don't fully identify as black, but i do identify more with being hispanic. this problem isn't as prevalent in hispanic communities when it comes to anime (because of the golden age of anime that happened back in the 80's in most of latin america), but it's still a big issue nonetheless. i remember being teased in middle school for liking anime and jpop lmao, glad it's finally mainstream :'3
As someone much older than most of you, the best thing you can be in this world is yourself. You are never reduced to trends. Do what looks best on you. We just lost two Black mothers trying to get bbl's. The most radical thing you can do as Black women is love yourselves fully and deeply especially before trying to share yourselves with others.
He made one short little video years ago about him walking in front of some people and snickering about how he was right in front of them and they didn’t notice. The Internet raged on him and told him that of course they wouldn’t know who he was, he wasn’t relevant or important. It was right at that time when he was on the last few embers of being in the public eye before falling off. The Internet basically tied a cement block around his ankles and pushed him off the cliff. Ever since then the internet has been unjustifiably mean to him for no reason. That was the first time I’d ever seen someone receive such a horrible wave of mob hate over the Internet. It was terrifying and little did I know that was the beginning of worse to come.
Within the UK, this has been a TikTok topic for a few months, as many people were offended by a girl (they also came for people who agreed with this narrative) stating that there is a UK black girl aesthetic (30+ inch buss down, gym sets/yagiwrld tracksuits, bright undereye, long nails, etc.) after a girl went viral for saying that if you do not spend £1.5k on your maintenance (wigs, nails, lash extensions, etc.) you look like a troll. Flash forward a few months a girl claims her former friend is copying her aesthetic and every single look that she does, bear in mind the former friend claims that they are both inspired by Jayda Wayda and Nicki Minaj (we UK black girlies do love us some Jayda Wayda) so although her former friend may not have any sense individuality neither does she as they both strive to essentially be Jayda Wayda. This whole sitch led to a trend where girls would make a TikTok stating that if you don't dress like the UK black girl aesthetic or are looking for an alternative aesthetic which was just pushing other common black girl aesthetics that are not as prevalent as the one I mentioned earlier but still very common. It could also be argued that you only see this aesthetic online because you either subscribe to it or like the aesthetic because in reality when you walk around on a day-to-day basis you may not frequently see this aesthetic or may only see it in certain areas. *Individuality is 100 % dead online and I will say it is slowly dying in real life as many do not separate their real life from social media anymore* However I just don't feel like that looks wise that individuality has ever been a thing and it definitely won't ever be so *I think what makes us an individual and unique is: the way we behave, our minds, our opinion, and our personality.* Although we may have a similar personality as other people or behave like someone else there would always be something distinctive about us that will therefore make us unique. I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS BTW 🫶🏾
Do we? 😅 I am a black Brit and I had never heard of Jayda until she took over UA-cam when she was selling trash on Instagram. Some Black girls like her, but we’re not a monolith. Maybe it’s a generation thing? I do know the look you’re talking about though. Very tired of the wigs with the band covering the lace and layered eyelashes ONLY because everyone dressses like it and it seems to be a superior look. Wigs are a form of currency or social status for certain Black women nowadays, it’s weird. Then theirs the PLL and Shein boring fashion too. I saw a black girl in lunch with a head full of juicy curls, dark skin and bleached eyebrows and she looked so good I had to tell her! Edit: wanted to say, I wasn’t attacking you. Your comment was great 😊
@@AndSoWeLaughed I do think it’s an age and demographic thing. I’m a teen in a black populated area of london and all my friends do love us some jayda wayda haha
@@saharah101I was about to say I only heard of Jayda via tea pages or commentary channels (I’m 23 we’re about the same age demo.) @@AndSoWeLaughed Yeah, I think it might be an age thing because I recently saw a black brit, who I believe is a millennial, giving commentary on TikTok and she mentioned that she used to think that Jayda Wayda was slang for something not an actual person. Not the tired wigs 🤣 Thank you for liking my comment ❤
The older I got, the less I cared about fitting in. Like, I don't even care at this point lol. When I was younger, yea, definitely felt that pressure, but not I'm 33 and it's like you get what you get. The older you get, hopefully you start realizing that people are hypocrites and whether you try to fit in or not, you'll get hate. Just do you, like foreal.
I understand what you mean with how trends and everyone dresses the same. But if it wasn’t for trends back in 2020 and 2021 I never would have discovered what fashion I liked. You will get judged no matter what you wear or look like. But speaking on the black community because I’m a black girl. I dress up in styles that is alternative in the sense that you usually won’t see outside. And the black community seems to love to say that everyone in the community looks the same but when someone in the community doesn’t all of a sudden they are trying to act white or Asian , they look like a man, or some other type of insult. I wish the black community actually mean what they say
As a high-masking autistic... People HATE "different". They love to see me as the MPDG but when I stray outside of their idea of acceptably different, they hate me. It's fine that I dress quirky, but why am I ALWAYS so dresses up?? It's okay that I get giddy about small things, but why am I making such a big deal out of something bothering me?? It's cute that I like shiny things, but why do I wear glitter every day?? 🙃
This is literally everything I've been feeling but didn't have the words to say. I love pastels and bright colours and glitter and shiny accessories but as a black girl i get looked at differently when i wear clothes that display my love for these things. I've had my "blackness" basically stripped away from me simply because of the clothes I wear, shows I watch, and music i listen to. the sideeyes I've gotten when I say i listen to Sabrina Carpenter and not rap music ....
I'm curious as a person with an unstable identity if the Obession with aesthetics is because people don't have a stable sense of self - ideals, morals, appearance, etc. Combined with a fear of missing out.
Jackie Aina made this same caption video and used both Aliyah and JT. Love this. But anyways, I resonate with this. Be you regardless. Be strong. Being black and different is tough enough but once you tap into yourself, you’re UNSTOPPABLE
Thank you for speaking on this!!!! You beautifully and eloquently addressed this topic this is so important!! I even spoke this on my personal Tik tok, I said “individuality is under scrutiny” and you hit so many intersectional parts. Shout out to you, your channel and you never disappoint!!❤️
This whole channel calms me, because I knew I wasn’t crazy, everything is getting overwhelming and ridiculous.. everything is getting over exaggerated and extra and this channel is big breath of fresh air !
I feel like the people who dragged jt for the look she wore wouldn't drag SZA for wearing the same thing and they're both darkskin , alot of it has to do with perception of who they think certain looks are acceptable on smh
im a black girl that has been told that i was a little white girl my whole life. it started with the way i talk and then came the type of people i hung out with in middle school and then it went into music when i started listening to rock and alternative music and not long after kpop. i was bullied for everything that i was and i was even called whitewashed too just for not liking everything that was stereotypical black and i tried so desperately to fit in at first until i realized that i liked me because to me i’m just me. that translates into me expressing my style which is mostly the alt/goth style mixed in with a bit of y2k now and although i love the clothes i wear i still get looks. my own family even constantly tells me that i don’t act like i belong in the family or i don’t act like a black kid. i just don’t understand why i can’t just be me.
I almost had the same experience. Growing up my best friends were always either white or Hispanic and I would listen to every type of music but mostly alternative/electronica. People thought I was weird and everyone was just trying to fit it with each other. Ultimately I was just being me at the time and liked what I liked. In the end the people outside of you come to respect your personality/individuality and hope that they can find that themselves. You were comfortable with yourself and that’s more than enough for true inner and outer beauty 💙🫶🏾
Id be curious to hear older people perspectives on this topic too. Part of being young is being annoying and figuring yourself out and that means trying different things and follow trends like its their religion. I mean trends come and go for young ppl because old ppl don't care enough or have enough time. Social media just put the worst parts of high school in your pocket turned up to 11.
I made a video that discussed how this whole aesthetics and being the same got everyone trying to fit in the same box. Individuality is going out the window because most people is trying to be the same
I just love the way you explain things, especially this topic! I hate that I’m always trying to fit in with the crowd, and that’s why I’ve made it my goal this year to stop worrying about what others think just because it’s “not in”.
What u said about certain trends not being suitable for u is so true. Back when the tenis skirt trends came out, I loveddd it. So I got my skirt and unfortunately realized that it doesn't go with any of my clothes, my butt is too big for it and the shortness of the skirt makes me feel uncomfy. I later found slim fit denim skirts that actually flatter me, makes me feel good and goes with almost everythingin my closet. So following a few trends aren't bad but u gotta make sure it actually works for u. I'm glad I found this video tho, I was starting to feel bad about not looking like all the other girls my age, but this vid reminded me that I simply don't have to😌
I definitely relate because in the realm of spicy content creators I definitely do not fit in or get any recognition for being a censored non-explicit content creator 😅
And here I am as a 33 year old, refusing to use any social media that isn't UA-cam and usually only watch long-form content, so I don't give a care about trends, lol. Not saying things on other social media sites haven't filtered in to here (the pure existence of UA-cam Shorts is a clear example of that), but with longform content, you build a connection with the person and their content more than what they look like or trends. It's just a lot less important here and I appreciate that. Not saying I've not had my brush-ins with people who feel individuality is a crime, though...I've had quite a fair share of people at jobs who always want to try to go Project Makeover on me because my style offends them somehow (one person even proclaiming I must be depressed because of the way I dress 😂), but those were crappy jobs that of course drew crappy people. I will add this though to the pictures of that woman with the blond hair...one reason I could see it being upsetting to other black people would be that it leans into the Eurocentric image that has been pushed on black people for years. So, perhaps to see a black woman do exactly that after fighting so hard the last few decades to promote being black and proud, perhaps that's upsetting. This said, and no offense to her, but...the pictures were not that unique to me. Throw a stone at any modern woman in rap and you will see pictures exactly like that. Because it's not really that unusual anymore, I'm not offended. Does it look odd? Yes, but that whole "aesthetic" has never been very appealing to me. Just because I don't see the appeal in something though, doesn't mean that it shouldn't exist. It's just not for me and that's that.
I’m regards to your comments about gatekeeping… I see more people say we should gatekeep than not so that was interesting to hear I think anyone who wants to “gatekeep” something should keep it off the internet. The internet is literally for sharing stuff whether just with yourself or with your followers. Like we follow people for the things they share. So we should simply not share the things we wana keep to ourselves. I think people make it their mission to find stuff and share it when OP won’t is because imo people post to flex so it’s the internets way of showing someone they aren’t “special”
My issue with JT is that she's NOT an individual‼️throughout her entire career, she looked like every other celebrity with the BbL & instagram body, with the same style of wigs & nails like the other black female rappers. She didn't stand out! Now that's she with Lil' Uzi Vert who IS an individual, i think he inspires her to step outside the box 😊And in that context it IS REFRESHING and she doesn't deserve hate for trying something new! I don't think this has nothing to do with colorism. Just that's my opinion..
I don't think Uzi is as much as an individual as someone trying hard to be different and to be seen as such. I do enjoy men like Andre3000 and even Uzi in theory but I feel like Andre is more authentic vs an Uzi. But Uzi is young. Uzi still fell into the being overcharged for jewelry that doesn't increase in value just like too many rappers.
@@squarebear619 well Lil Uzi's first hit song came out in 2016, and that's when he had that purple & blue hair. People were clowning him for the way he dressed and the way he styled his hair. So... yeah he's always BEEN different, he's NOT trying to BE different! lol 🤣 and yes andre3000 is very unique 💯
@@prettyllady there are people who try too hard to be different or othered because they think it makes them an individual or quirky. That's how he comes across plus the fact that he does silly things like with the overcharged jewelry being inserted plus other chains/bling. It screams, I'm trying to be different but more or less the same. I used Andre as a comparison because he has always come across as authentic and not gimmicky like Uzi. I'm sure folks made fun of Uzi, especially because of his size, but being made fun of doesn't mean he's any less of a gimmick who tries too hard to be othered.
It’s more so we don’t expect looks like that from JT. Girls like Azealia or Rico Nasty, it’s like well yeah they’re “weird” and alternative. But JT is a city girl and city girls don’t do looks like “that”.
🎀🎀 Thank you for this video, I agree with EVERY single point!! There are so many unique styles and looks now, and I'm happy more melanated women and girls feel comfortable enough to experiment with their fashion and have fun with it, finally feeling free. However, I do feel like the trend right now, and it's not just for us, is that you HAVE to be unique, special, extraordinary, etc. in order to be cool, whereas in the past, you were mocked, bullied and outcasted for it. :-/ At this point, and this will sound corny LOL, just do you and cast away all of your insecurities and outside negativity. I didn't know AaliyahsInterlude and her style was hated on, or at least given a hard time. :-0 I had to look her up, but I've seen her pictures on Pinterest here and there. Back to the point; maybe it's because we have a variety of aesthetics (I was trying to avoid using this word 😆😆) at the moment, but I feel like her particular fashion is the look that's currently "in", especially for melanated women and girls, so I'm confused on the backlash. On second thought, there ARE close-minded melanated people out there so....... Regardless, it's a possibiliy that she was the pioneer of that style, and if she is, then props to her!! I was also under the rock for that JT birthday thing. She looks really pretty (JT is a really stunning woman ❣❣) and the makeup is nice. I'm just not here for the (straight and wavy hair) wigs and the hypersexualized look anymore (the latter is to be expected though, it's the City Girls 🤷🏾♀🤷🏾♀). Either way, all the hate she received was not necessary. *EDIT (forgot that I wanted to add this part):* on your thumbnail, it says "it's giving drag queen" and something else that I don't remember, and I just wanted to say that I don't like the recent makeup styles that have been marketed to melanated women for the past few years and they are essentially that, DRAG QUEEN styles. Those makeup techniques are for men who want to look like us, and it's just not natural on a woman, with all the harsh lines & angles and heavy makeup. Makeup is to enhance and have fun with, not to make you look like a totally different person. :-/ To touch on your last point, the "masculine" melanated woman thing is a LIE. We've always been feminine, we're women ♀♀(the original ones at that), so it's a given. 😌😌 I've grown up with nothing but feminine, almost hyperfeminine melanated women, so I'm confused AND baffled by these colorist and anti-black female sentiments. Plus, if we want to keep it VERY real, this narrative has been brought up to elevate trans woMEN and to push us down, futhering our DEHUMANIZATION and denying us of our womanhood, which cannot be replicated!! I want all of us, if we can, to unplug from the internet and to ignore these nonsensical opinions made against us, if not we'll internalize them and that's never been what we needed. And cut off people in real life who think similarly too!! This was longer than I thought it would be LOL. Anyway, thank you again for this video and have a good one!! xx
first off JT looked gorgeous as usual, secondly it was literally like 15% different from what other black girls are wearing. they act like she came out in a hotdog suit or something way out there like wtf???
There are no new thoughts, what you see is what's in your subconscious. I don't see many things because I've been away from it so long or never tapped into it.
Yea when it comes to this toopic people need to come to an understanding and balance. To be “different” you would have to gatekeep to some extent to maintain. Also most of this society are followers due to conformity and to feel acceptance 🤷🏽♀️
Got yourself a new subscriber,i like everything you said,i he saying the same thing but never say it out loud, also i always feel invisible to people because i dont do the stuff that they be doing or dress the way other guys dress etc.
Okay but a thousand of those pants were made. It’s unreasonable to think a thousand people r not wearing those exact same pants rn. Most of those thousand people would probably pair it with the same type of type bcos it automatically lends itself perfectly. Unless u see your own clothes it would be really impossible to have a unique style.
no one doja- she's BEEN dressing like that and the darksin/brown/lighter skin girls diss her cause she's "weird" and same with Nicki. it genuinely feel like as black women some who dont have a sense of self or who they are- it's triggering. It's called an insecurities, cause what we do is what white girls did to us. I feel like black girls are becoming Karens... and they dont see it but it's slowly happening.
Natural Hair Community needs gatekeepers, just say it! Lol. THAT would be appropriate gatekeeping BY A TRUE 4 C CREW as most now are aware of the 3c & below crews. I'm 3c and below and I have seen that truth CLEARLY. People are intellectually ingenious when complaining they don't see the neccessity.
Ofc its dead. We are globalised, meaning oh my gosh, we are so connected, and therefore, we can sooooo appreciate each other whilst being told to assimilate meaning be like this. Social media is part of Globalisation. It's a weird dynamic.
A lot of y’all in these comments aren’t being picked on for trying to be yourself a lot of y’all have self hate issues and you want acceptance from the dominant society and other non-Black people
I mean Jackie aina should not be the one to talk cause she herself has perpetuated this. She herself lacks individuality. People gate-keep until they have a business and want everybody know about it, or impacts the “influencers” pockets so essentially there is no point of gate keeping
I agree with this wholeheartedly, especially with how she marketed Nigerian culture for her expensive candle business that those in Nigeria CAN NOT EVEN BUY. I love the conversation but as a Nigerian-American who is in touch with Nigerian politics and culture, I can not stomach it from Jackie Aina. Not from the gimmicks and disrespectful ways she attempts to market culture. Somethings just shouldn't be advertised.. 😒
how would you know what lightskins go through if you're not lightskin? Stop trying to generalize problems that lightskin ppl specifically girls and women, if that's something you would never be okay with if it was the other way around.
I honestly don’t understand these revelations because people are actually allowed to be themselves out loud more than ever before. It’s really based on what media you choose to consume, though limited, still possible.
isn't this the internal contradiction of movements like Feminism and BLM? They start out by saying we're all the same but in the breath seek special treatment by lump everyone into the group. Anyone who loves individuality must oppose movements like these.
You straight up stole this whole video idea from Jackie Aina. Damn at least come up with yo own examples and title. Individuality IS dead!! Prime example😂 😂

Same..!!!! And the lack of individuality within the black community is a whole other beast we need to talk about.
I’m not saying there’s anything wrong with genuinely liking what everyone else likes but I’m not about to follow a trend for the sake of fitting in if it costs me being uncomfortable
me too
💯💯💯
I don't like talking to other black people. Sounds rude but I talk and find community with like minded black folks only. Too many of us are toxic and will shame you for not twerking on a headstand with a 13x6 turquoise frontal and butterfly lashes in the welfare office with a dusty baby daddy.
I got bullied by my classmates last year because I don’t own a pair of Jordans or air forces. My wardrobe consists of knitted sweaters and I love to wear boots. You have no idea the amount of times my family calls me “white” because of it.
i can imagine your aesthetic is so cute 😭
I used to always get called the white one too/it’s eventually doesn’t bother you anymore.
Boots and knitted sweaters sounds cute
I literally can’t afford to look how I want/hoodies and jeans in all black that’s it 😂
I love sweaters...I betcha they fit your personality. ❤️❤️
Sounds like my kind of style! I absolutely LOVE boots. I only got one pair of non brand sneakers.
We need to start a support group lol
You don't need Jordans or Air Forces to be worthy, shows how shallow those classmates are. Stand firm, do you and be amazing❤
Individuality is not dead. Individuality was never a thing. Society has always largely been about conforming. Those who stepped outside the box, have always been shunned/ostracized to create their own niches. Social media once again just exacerbates what has always existed in our society - in this case, the need or push to conform.
I don’t think you get her point but ok

If you have tried to be an individual, then you would understand the point being made in the video.
Everyone DOES look the same.
Anyone who says they don't like Party in the USA is a liar.😂👏🏾

Commonalities have now been monetized. The more people can relate to you or the more eyes you can get on you in an enjoyable way, the higher of a chance you have to be paid. As someone much older than most of you, the best thing you can be in this world is yourself. You are never reduced to trends. Do what looks best on you. “Just because the internet said so attitude” made me think of bow wow and how everyone is so mean to him for no reason at all.
*Individuality is 100 % dead online and I will say it is slowly dying in real life as many do not separate their real life from social media anymore*
However I just don't feel like that looks wise that individuality has ever been a thing and it definitely won't ever be so *I think what makes us an individual and unique is: the way we behave, our minds, our opinion, and our personality.*
Although we may have a similar personality as other people or behave like someone else there would always be something distinctive about us that will therefore make us unique.
It's probable. I think you're right actually.
And this is why I decided to create my own clothing store with the hopes of promoting individuality, especially for gothic/alternative black people
I think JT looks great in her pictures she looks very feminine and pretty.

I’m sorry so you had to go through that

Id be curious to hear older people perspectives on this topic too. Part of being young is being annoying and figuring yourself out and that means trying different things and follow trends like its their religion. I mean trends come and go for young ppl because old ppl don't care enough or have enough time. Social media just put the worst parts of high school in your pocket turned up to 11.

I also hate that I try to fit in with the crowd even though I tell myself that I don't want to be like these people I'm surrounded by

Loved your points, I've been having internal conversations about this for weeks now lol I am glad you made this video. Also, you are so beautiful!
Yes. Honey we in the follower era.
I'm glad I found this video tho, I was starting to feel bad about not looking like all the other girls my age, but this vid reminded me that I simply don't have to😌
I love gatekeeping
I actually love people that are unique I LOVE ITTT
I’m regards to your comments about gatekeeping… I see more people say we should gatekeep than not so that was interesting to hear
I think anyone who wants to “gatekeep” something should keep it off the internet.
Also, Happy New Year! 🥳
To touch on your last point, the "masculine" melanated woman thing is a LIE.
Anyway, thank you again for this video and have a good one!! xx

Fr the fact that she makes a video talking about individuality like she doesn't look and act like a copy paste bougie auntie 💀
We? Us? I personally love Individuality. I wish black people would stop saying we and us it's creepy lol

Individuality is not dead in my opinion everyone is different
how would you know what lightskins go through if you're not lightskin? I hate when black ppl try to prepetau this myth that lightskins don't go through anti-blackness as if other races don't see us as black🤦🏼♀️ I used to wear my hair is twists and was terribly bullied for it and the same name calling thing happened to me but I guess this just didn't happened because I'm fair skinned.
Everytime I wear an afro textured hairstyle mono racial black people give me dirty looks and harsh criticism .
Am I the only one that them wigs look white lol
isn't this the internal contradiction of movements like Feminism and BLM? They start out by saying we're all the same but in the breath seek special treatment by lump everyone into the group. Anyone who loves individuality must oppose movements like these.
You straight up stole this whole video idea from Jackie Aina. Damn at least come up with yo own examples and title. Individuality IS dead!! Prime example😂 😂
i literally said i was inspired by jackie, and this video talks about things other than jt & aliyah. being inspired isn’t a crime. i gave the originator credit, i added my own takes, and the whole point of commentary is to give your opinion (and in my case, it’s my opinion on social media and pop culture topics). if you have better, original ideas and fresh takes, i would love to see your video!!
She gave credit it’s literally in the hashtags…
@@CamrynElyse amazing video you are so well spoken ❤
So on a video regarding individuality you admit that you were inspired by another creator pursuing the same topic. Typical.
You could argue that this is her individual perspective on the topic 🤷🏽♀️
