Decided to head out early in the morning to the Mississippi River BANK to try my luck at some late fall Blue catfish. I was lucky enough to catch two. catfish bank fishing is not easy but I shore do love it.

Great video. O just subscribed to your channel. I bank fish to but at night. There is a bunch of us that do bank fish that don't have a boat. I had a nice John boat but I sold it because I'd had more fun and rest n relaxation fishing on the bank. You should make some pvc rod holders and put more poles out.

thx!! I just got back from a crappie trip with som church friends I got 21 fish on live and cut minnows I got a 12incher 1lb but are old paster got a 2/5lber 14incher then they started biteing so good we had to go get more minnows! all in all a good day o fishing:)
why the spinning rod with the bait casting reel? just wondering if you had a trick up your sleeve or what
lol. no trick I just use what I have and it actually works pretty well.

Bo Shorts... No need with cats they are a very strong fish. I've had many many cats I've taken home for my dad and neighbors that were still kicking even up to 2hrs later. Some I've released because I ended up not wanting them but I did stick with them till they could swim off without bellying up in my pond.

do you recommend circle hooks or J hooks? also do you set the hook on circle hooks?. seems like you did lol. i get happy just like you when fish is on!!
After switching to circle hooks I have increased my hookup ratio so yes I would recommend circle hooks. Thanks for watching!
+Danny Cal team catfish double action circles allow for a hook set. I wouldn't do it with traditional circles.

Nice sized fish from the shore. I`m up here in Iowa on the banks of the muddy Mississippi and I sure cant catch them that big from the shore. What part of the Mississippi are you fishing?
These are small compared to some of the others I have caught, I fish on Illinois side just north of St. Louis.

if I might add the hook size could be fine its just the style of the circle hook that is also important. if you had a 6/0 circle with an offset it could do the job just the same the offset helps to get a better bite on the corner of the mouth. ;)

I have a few more ideas and such.. Say if you're using braided line for bottom fishing around rocks for big flatheads or stumps for big blues and channels as well as a possible flathead. You would generally fray your line which weakens it and potentially breaks it. The trick is using two weight size line in mono at least 15' of it tied line to line with the FG knot worlds strongest braid to mono/ flouro knot. so it glides through your eyes smoothly. then tie on your usual rig. the shock leader takes the damage on the rocks and stumps and logs and such a lot better than your braid will. Tips and tricks from here.
That's two weights larger* I left that one out. Haha...

andrew v. I can agree with that as well. I'm not a big fan of circle hooks because AI have a technique with the J hooks I use that guarantees lip hook sets 90% of the time with corner and top of mouth being the 10%.. I don't know if you're familiar with any carp fishing rigs but the hair rig is an absolute versatile rig and is deadly accurate. It works the same as circle hook just on a different scale

Rodney Wroten that doesn't work from the bank, if you let that fish do whatever, it will get snagged. Also "decompressing" fish is for deep water. I'm not fishing deep water. Thanks for watching.
Randy when your bank fishing getting the fish in as fast as possible in the Mississippi is absolutely essential. You are pulling a fish to the shallows/bank and they are keen enough to know it and pull you into snags/trees/rocks/debris, boat fishing allows some fight time but bank fishing requires as quick as the line will allow! I fish the Mississippi all the time in Missouri 30 miles south of st. Louis and bank fish the majority of the time, and occasionally on a buddies boat, and the fight between the 2 is uncomparable. On the boat the fight is mainly the fishes weight and current with an occasional fight, while pulling them in from the bank is a zig zag fight the whole time, while they are looking for a place to snag you up, the rod tip always has to be held as high as possible while bankfishing, while boat fishing you can hold the pole horizontal.
