    I had always dreamed of owning a vw camper van. it was a dream my wife and I had had for ten years or more ,we saved like crazy then it still wasn't enough so I sold my classic ford sierra cosworth to fund the short fall .this enabled us to pay for the van in full .we collect our Brand new t6.1 revena blue 204 dsg lwb swamper camper in 4 weeks💙 time. It the very 1st Brand new vehicle we have ever owned. Its our very 1st volkswagan and our very 1st camper van and we couldn't be happier. We love your channel and can't wait to hit the road .keep up the fantastic videos ❤

      Wow that’s great! I can’t believe you had to let a cosworth go though… they sure don’t make them like that any more 🥲

    My wife and I were quite shocked at the price of a new camper van and didn’t have the cash to buy one. The one thing we did have is a decent regular income and we have paid out a fixed amount each month for a car on PCP for about the last 15 years. We change the car every 3 years and just give them back and start again. We worked out that if we took a long term loan (10 years) and just carried on paying the same amount as we had been it would not cost us any extra. We would then have to use the van as a regular vehicle for the next 10 years until we paid for it. So thats what we did and see the camper as longer term investment

      I think there are a lot of people who have done the same as you with the same thought process.

    One option we were looking at was Airbnb our house to offset when we're away in the van. Early days but just a thought to throw into the mix.

    We were very lucky in that my father in law cashed in some of his ISA accounts and gave the money to us so that we could buy our campervan, a Ford Transit Custom Limited with the conversion done by Rock and Roll Campers up near me in Consett. We had on order a Elddis CV40 campervan but our dealer Tyne Valley Motorhomes, could not get it ( ordered in September last year and no sign of it appearing) hence we got the Ford. Unfortunately my father in law passed away in April and never saw the van that he had bought for us 😞 In his memory we have named it "Dougie"

    Really interesting video. We opted to part exchange one of our two cars for a California on the basis we could use it as a daily runner and the additional cost is kind of offset by the savings on holidays. That would be the case if we didn't keep buying accessories! We are able to get away more often and get to see parts of the UK (and hopefully Europe in time) that we otherwise would have no reason to visit. We are really pleased with the van and our decision. Another saving is our spaniel can now holiday with us which is a huge bonus for us all. Should have bought one years ago! We are off to 3 cliffs in Wales tomorrow, our first trip to try out the new awning, can't wait. 👍

    Great video guys. I’m in Australia hubby and I retired recently , sold our VW Beach bought new VW which we had to wait 12 months for it to arrive but fortunate enough to have guaranteed price (before VW changed pricing ). We were able to buy it outright. Love the videos being shot in the van and not the “studio” 😂

    I love watching your videos but they usually cost me a fortune!😂 I bought the slide out tray you featured in your NEC video from Campervantastic (with the discount code you provided - thank you) which must be one of my best purchases so far (and there have been many!). I paid for my Cali by trading in a bigger Motorhome and selling my car so now it’s my daily drive. I absolutely love it! Days out as well as camping trips, so versatile. Keep up the good work both of you. I will hopefully meet up with you one of these days.🤞xx

    I decided to buy my van outright because of the ridiculous interest rates now offered on savings accounts etc. My Bank actually reduces the interest rate the more I saved so I could see no point. I pick up my van in July.

    Interesting finance options. We were fortunate to have the cash.
    The big decision was convincing ourselves buying a Cali was sensible. Would we be able to live in and enjoy such a small space?
    We were used to camping and spending long periods cruising in a small boat, so we’re reasonably confident.
    A big factor was to use the Cali to spend quality time with our young granddaughter who lived some distance away in a small house with no additional bed.
    The car was also in need of replacement so car offset, family time and new adventures helped sway us.
    We were intending to go down the van conversion route thinking that would be more cost effective. However, the more we considered the design options the more attractive the Cali became. A casual call to the Liverpool Van Centre resulted in an unbelievable quote which undercut our independent conversion cost by several thousand pounds.
    We chose a Coast with a good range of options, which brought it close to an Ocean spec without the electric roof.
    We snapped up the offer although with covid and chip shortages we had to wait a year for delivery.
    The decision is looking good. We had our first mini break with the granddaughter last weekend, and a great time was had.
    One concern remains, managing in wet weather. Not keen on the ponderous tent awning option but a shower tent could fit the bill.

On my side , i got classic credit from my bank at interesting rate 1.50% sept 21 , 48 months period . and partial cash contribution linked with good deal car recovery from my previous Skoda SUPERB ; CALI is now my full time Car .. or mobile office as you mentionned . Good video. Looked at the options of getting a van then getting a conversion but costs added up somewhat to get a bespoke layout. Good way to go for exactly that. Wasn’t going to be mush of a difference from say a coast or a beach. What about van insurance to replace daytime vehicle?

    • @CampervanTime
      @CampervanTime  2 роки тому +2

      Our insurance covers us in same way as a regular daytime vehicle does - except for one minor element which is leaving the van unattended away from home for extended periods of time (ie airport car parks) where we need to notify the insurers specifically about that if it ever happens. That’s the only difference. Business cover there, commuting, etc etc.

    The positive part of delivery delays is that I am able to save up for a higher deposit. I was planning on taking it on PCP and saving up the GFV over 5 years to buy it outright and run it for life. But I believe a PCP has a maximum 50% deposit so rather than switch to HP, I may take out a bank loan to fund the difference rather than have it on HP with VWFS so that it doesn’t show on any HP register in case circumstances change and we need to sell it in the future. We went from status 10 build, week 19, to build week 24, and now reverted to status 00. My son ordered at the same time, 31st July 21, and was told this week that his is now being built in October!

    • @CampervanTime
      @CampervanTime  2 роки тому +1

    I’ve bailed out of our California. Queuing for fuel, fuel prices. Talk of £2.50 Litre next year has led to this decision. We had half the money saved, but it’s got to the point where I would rather the money in my account. But fuel prices have definitely but the brakes on. Ordered an EV6 instead.

    • @CampervanTime
      @CampervanTime  2 роки тому

      We’re all facing quite incredible pressures on our finances and it was only a week ago I said to Sarah about the costs of fuel and what that does to our trips away in the Cali. EV6 looks to be a great car, albeit with similar delivery timescales to the Cali for some models I understand?

    Can you actually sell a vehicle that you have taken out on PCP? You cannot sell a vehicle you do not own.
    Stop saying you can sell a vehicle, which is on hire purchase. You do not own it until the finance company releases it to you, it's not yours to sell!

    • @CampervanTime
      @CampervanTime  2 роки тому

      Sure, as long as you pay off the finance. PCP is just a fancy type of loan with a balloon payment, so you can pay if off whenever you have the cash to do so. We’ve done it a good few times with cars - the person you’re selling it to just wants to see that the money they’ve paid you has paid off the finance.

    • @Derekhessett
      @Derekhessett 2 роки тому

      I have sold a few of my vehicles that I had on PCP and same day paid the final balloon. As long as the person your selling to is made aware and the car companies get there money no one really cares. Everyone is happy.
