Dang it, Doug. You didn't mention the 2 Series only odd quirk. The driver seat is off-center. It is rotated to the right a few milimeters. During crash testing, they discovered that the dummy's head would slip between the curtain airbag and steering wheel airbag in a small overlap test, which could lead to fatal head injuries. Reengineering the car so this wouldn't happen would cost millions to redesign the dashboard, sterring column, floor pan, ect. BMW's simple solution was to mount the seat at an angle, so that a larger portion of the dummy's head would hit the sterring wheel airbag.

However, if you're young and looking for an affordable M car you're better off looking for a nice used 2005 E46 M3. It's .5 inches longer than the M2, and 2 inches narrower, so it's just as tossable, more even because you have a real connection to the road. You can get them with SMG's or Manual. I'll never get rid of my E46 M3. I already have a replacement engine and transmission in storage, fully rebuilt and waiting for the current ones to go fail., all for far less than a new M2....
Yeah... I'd be dead afraid of owning an M2 past warranty. BMW's already have expensive maintenance at higher mileage and this one adds the complications of forced induction.
Same, I DDed my e46 M3 for 8 years and still love it. It's finally off DD duty with 160k miles. I just gave it a DR Vanos Hub and don't plan to ever sell. It's getting old and rare now. In perfect condition at age 15 I get compliments every single time I take it out. Way more than when it was new and expensive. It's now an enthusiast car instead of a rich dbag car. If the M2 will ever depreciate I'd like to pick one up though. That or a Cayman.
The E46 M3 is consistently rated as the best M car BMW ever made. To me it was the last great M car. It's a NA high revving straight six, and while the E90/E92/E93 were good cars they really took away from the joy and design by being 8 cylinders. The current F30, while beautiful in its own right, is a twin turbo nightmare. My BMW mechanic has always said they're not worth it and cusses whenever he has one in his shop. I had my BMW at his shop getting an oil change recently and someone had an M4 in there getting a $7500 turbo repair. Forced induction is really not worth it. If BMW had a 100,000 mile warranty it'd be worth it, but honestly I think BMW makes more money off of factory maintenance than they do off of selling their cars.
The BMW 1 Series M is already one of my favourite BMWs of all time! When I saw the commercials for the M2 (I haven't heard a thing before hand), I squealed like a piggy with excitement! This thing looks awesome!
I love the BMW M2. If I had the money to upgrade my current 5.0 I'd love to take a look. Sad thing is, the maintenance costs kill it. Compared to a Corvette, this thing has insane upkeep costs.
German cars are like German beer... even when you buy it - eventually you realize you actually just rent it for a while - then have to get more, spend more - to keep your buzz going...insane upkeep costs - turbos vs. N/A...simple decision - no lag!
Upkeep on cars like this really isn't that bad unless you are an idiot and abuse the shit out of the poor thing. It's an entry level bmw, not a McLaren F1 lol.
Gentry Smith oh, trust me, I know! Haha, my 335i gives me enough pain! But nothing beats those raw engines mated with the hydraulic steering. I just love everything about them, the grunt of the e92 and the rasp of the e46! It's sublime!
I worked as a lot attendant at a BMW dealership for 3 years, and I drove every BMW there is, including the i8, and I have to say, the FUNNEST BMW I ever drove was the M235i. That car is so frickin fun to drive. the lightness of the car and the sheer power come hand in hand when driving this car. I absolutely loved that car and it would undoubtfully be on the top of my list when I have that kind of money.
And it has a manual gearbox... I need this car in my life.

Bjorn Ironsides things seem to break more and need more service tbt. Atleast it’s that way on mine, and the parts... omg they are expensive
just changed my 335i xdrive mission oil(8 AutoT) at 65000mi. Cost me 1,000 dollars.
Upkeep on cars like this really isn't that bad unless you are an idiot and abuse the shit out of the poor thing. It's an entry level bmw, not a McLaren F1 lol.
It is an M car not an entry level bmw
Watching this from one I just rented an hour ago. I love it!
god damn its so beautiful
Idk man, the rear end of the M2 is pretty ugly I think. The M4 is a much better looking car.
@@1tokeover nah I like it. M4 is nice but m5 is terrible behind.
1tokeover yeah the rear doesnt have the best taillights and the front could look a bit more aggressive but otherwise it has a very sporty shape
Do you take requests for car reviews?
Only if you own the actual car.
If you have a car he can physically use to review, he'll review it.
Kia Sentra ?
Bruce Wayne nah I want hi to review the Mercedes Benz s550
That's not a thing.
Love my M2, full stop. Every time I drive it, I’m happy.
I agree 100% and I smile every time I drive my M2!
5:22 hey there is a rare ticking sound, might want to take the car back
Here’s why Doug demuro is the best channel ever
If it doesn't have an unlimited mileage bumper to bumper warranty it cant be that good...
I would like to see if the old school NSX (1998-2004) has any quirks. Btw I'm waiting for that E30 M3 review tho.
Yes Doug needs to review both of those.
Dude I doubt it. Those were extremely well laid out.
craigmak and a toyota supra mkiv
while I don t think I can afford this high end m2,
you have me thriving for the base model,
this is the kind of car for me, either that or the gt 86.
BMW is the best car manufacturer
e92 m3 or e46 m3. Best M cars.
Luna Tuna, You sure both are Unreliable As Hell! Fast and great looking cars but man.
Gentry Smith oh, trust me, I know! Haha, my 335i gives me enough pain! But nothing beats those raw engines mated with the hydraulic steering. I just love everything about them, the grunt of the e92 and the rasp of the e46! It's sublime!
+Gentry Smith nope, my e46 M3 has been great with 160k on it. Unreliable only if abused.
Except for the f82
craigmak
but lets be fair, a m3 exist to get absurd. if your are Not kicking the shit out of it, you should sell it.
Your reviews and car wow are some of the best to watch
“So easy to rev match”
.... it blimps automatically lol
That gray M2 was YOU!? haha! I see that thing a lot, I live nearby Cherry Hill.
Just test drove this car in the exact colour. This generation 2 series is just beautiful
Great review. The way you described driving an M2 reminds me of my MK4 R32.
Smyle 13 i was thinking the same thing about Golfs during this video, does this have the same engine as any GTI or Golf on the market?
Nathan Haji No. The R32 has a 3.2L VR6 shares with the TT and a Haldex AWD system
Correction BMW 1M is perfect
My '93 e36 is a work in progress toward perfection!
jon doe gtr is a car for nerds and kids
MrMister1227 the E46 M3 is perfect. Analog is best.
Doug how do you have time to make a top quality video like this and write and article on over steer! That must be an insane amount of work!!!
You should review my i3. lol
He should review my i3.
NO HE SHOULD REVIEW MY i3!
no he should review my 3 eyes
He should probably blow up your i3. lol
JLee Well, they do use Samsung batteries.
the reason why the turn signals suck is, well you already know
I worked as a lot attendant at a BMW dealership for 3 years, and I drove every BMW there is, including the i8, and I have to say, the FUNNEST BMW I ever drove was the M235i. That car is so frickin fun to drive. the lightness of the car and the sheer power come hand in hand when driving this car. I absolutely loved that car and it would undoubtfully be on the top of my list when I have that kind of money.
affansonicfan is the M235 different from the M2?
Mohammad Shaikh I think there arr some minor technical differances. remember there was no m2 when the m235i was out.
I have a 2015 gtr... want to drive it? 100% stock
yes pls
I'd like to take it for a spin. Thank you.
Fallenwhun yep
An M6 is also an amazing car, every BMW M is
Your smile while driving says it all
