Just a reminder that when taking off the old oil filter, make sure the old gasket comes off with it. If the new filter is put against the old gasket, you'll have a major oil leak! Those things can stick sometimes. Great video by the way! Now to get me some ramps so I can do this to mine ;)
Greetings from Detroit Chris! Wish I could meet you in Sarasota this Thursday. I go there quite a bit. Hope you post more c4 corvette videos. I have a 94 coupe and your videos have helped alot
+eric bratcher use UA-cam to comment because I cannot reply to you directly otherwise. My Vette has 300hp and 340ft-lbs of torque stock. It can do 0-60 in 5 seconds and tops out at 168-170mph
Congrats on the Vette!!! All full synthetic by Mobile1 meets and exceeds the code you mention... As for the ramps, Google "race ramps". They are special because our cars are so low. If you end up purchasing them, get the two piece ramps because they are easier to store...
Great video and very informative... Awesome job..! Ijust purchased a Black C4 95 in April 2021with 87,000 miles.. the change oil light just came on... what Mobile 1 oil should I buy for the oil change?
Nice video. It's so nice to see someone that knows how to change an oil filter by not using a damn tool to get it so tight that the next person that comes along may have to use the old screwdriver trick to get the filter off. I see this happen so often, and people just don't realize that the filter doesn't have to be that tight! In fact, in many cases it crushes the gasket and causes leaks if it is too tight, not to mention how much of a pain in the ass it is to get off when this is done.
@derrylsanders No problem, Im glad! That's why I make these videos! I also have how to change the fuel pressure regulator and how to change the water pump if you ever need!
That's a good idea but I get nervous with metal filings that have the potential to get into the engine (even if you are changing the filter)... But that is def a good idea to prevent the oil from spilling, especially on other cars where the filter is side ways!!! Thanks!!!
@derrylsanders If you want, I have a video on how to change the rear brakes on a PT Cruiser. The Corvette brakes will be similar... Take a look at that and if you have any questions feel free to ask me!
Last orb I saw was at 8:48 minutes on this video. Chris, I think you have a ghost living in your Vette! I have a '95 convertible C4 I just acquired and now I know how you got yours up on ramps...ramp extenders. I plan on changing my oil tomorrow. Thanks.
Thank you Chris . Just what I needed so I could change the oil on my”new to me “ ‘96 Corvette. Great tips and it saved me lots of time! 😀 I’ll be checkin’ out your other vids soon.
I just bought a 91 with 94,188 miles. I see all these comments about oil. I have used many different kinds and weights .... I always liked Valvoline VR1 50w. good thick oil that will lube everything and you can give it hell and still be fine
I like to pop the seal off the oil filter and put a coat of oil on both sides and put it back on. I also use a permanent marker and write the date and miles on it. I like that you filled the filter with oil before putting it back on aswell. Good video :)
Chris Fix I just sold my 84 Vette and purchased a 86 with 79k orig miles same color as yours and I love it thanks for your vids and I'm a subscriber. Would be cool if you comment to me here.
Yep, just check out my other how to videos on my youtube page! I have the plugs and wires, fuel pressure regulator, battery, fog lights, head lights, etc...
Wow that's handy to have ramps to drive the front two tires but be sure to apply the parking brake and put automatic transmission in park or manual transmission in 1st gear. But remove the key from ignition and keep it in your pocket after you check the oil pressure and engine oil temperature.
Hi Chris, Great job. How about a video on the 'best' way to replace the heater core on this car? That's the next project on my '94 LT1, and from what I've read, it's not an easy job. Thanks-
Putting a plastic solo type cup on the filter while unscrewing it will help keep you from having to deal with the oil spillage while removing it. Just make sure to break it loose before putting the cup over it
Hey Chris, you forgot to say : "Hey guuys, ChrisFix here" I had a hard time watching because of that. Just kidding, love your videos, keep on the great work.
Hi Chris, first, your videos are great, straight to the point while explaining things clearly. I now currently own a 1996 torch red Corvette too. I would really like to see a video on how you detail your vette. Specifically your method of polishing and waxing. I've been detailing my cars since high school (95) and I've learned a lot and my cars come out great. But I feel like the vette deserves the next level. What type of polish and wax do you use? How often do you polish? I'm sure you wax after every wash. What are your thoughts on Zymol Rouge glaze (which is specifically for red cars and $77 a bottle). I live in the Chicago area so car detailing season is coming! If you have the time or the desire, I'm sure I'm not the only one who'd love to see you detail your vette. Thanks for reading and keep up the great work!!
Very nice video Chris! I have the same RaceRamps too for my Corvette C6. I am thinking about getting a 1994 C4, is there anything that I should know about the C4?
Hey man i have a 1990 C4, can you tell me what i should be worry about and whats different form yours? Im a new owner of a C4 so i would really love to get some knowledge ok it thank you
The C4 is very bulletproof! Opti-spark and some other small areas are going be different compared to my 96 C4, but other than that you shouldn't have too much to worry about. Just make sure you keep up with maintenance and take care of it, and the car will love you for it!
im new the corvette world i have a 1987 C4 car doesn't start and hasnt been turned on in a couple years, what should be my first steps in order to bring her back to life?
looked at a 89 c4 and a 96 vette and they both caught my attention one day imma own one . I need ur advice on owning one as far as the advantages and disadvantages of owning a c4 vette
Great video man. Hey is there a lot of trouble if I put 6 quarters instead of 5, I overfill by accident 😔 Help please, do I should do it again? Oil pressure is now in a half of gauge, little bit higher than before
Hello Chris great video I can't get enough of the c4 Corvette I have a question how much oil do you put in the oil filter or do you just put oil around the rim like you did in this video? Thank you very much for doing this video happy New Year to you keep driving the c4 Corvette
The C4 is a great car! Totally different than any other car I have ever been in! I fill the oil filter to the top with new oil since it goes in straight up and down. I use to never do this, but on the Vette you might as well because the filter is straight up and down...
can you do one on a 4.6 ford oilfilter housing gasket replacement. another ford problem that should have been recalled especialy on the lincoln continental
awesome man, your Vette is very clean and nice! when you get the chance check out my 93, i just put the first vid of her on my channel, ill be changing my oil myself for the first time in since i had it since funds are low so cant take it to my Vette specialist, i love it to death, wanted a Corvette since the 3rd grade, i tell how i got it in the description. feels like i just got her every i start it up :)
thanks man! nice to hear from a owner of an equally sweet Vette! the bottom of yours is crazy clean, im not sure how clean mine is under there, my Vette guy pressure washed the stock exhaust pipes and i get people asking all the time what after market set up i have cause theyre so clean, lol- but i dont know how clean the rest is under there, yeah, my folks have a torch red 94 convertible, we would like to get a club going where we live but cant seem to find much enthusiasm for it cause theres some huge club in Atlanta which is not far from where i live, i just subbed your channel thanks again!-
Nice video, congrats on vette, do you like those ramps ? Do you have review video on those ? Do they move in front of tires when entering or they stay ? Thanks.
The ramps were expensive but good quality. I have the 2 piece 11in tall ones. They do not move when you drive up them at all. They are race ramps. I dont have a video review on them.
He forgot to mention one thing. Notice the oil cap said Mobile 1. I would stick to that since the car calls for it. Idk about you guys but whatever came with the car originally, I'd like to continue using.
It would be a good idea to tell how to reset the "Change Oil" light on the dash. But I'll do it here. Turn key to ON. Within 5 seconds, press "ENG MET" button twice. Then press and hold the "GAUGES" button for 10 seconds. The light will flash and then go off.
For those of us who don't have a oil gauge, check your dipstick to make sure it is at the Full mark. And make sure the oil light does not come on, on the dashboard.
Hello. i got my vette a few monfhs ago, maybe 2 or 3... Im wondering... How do you keep under the hood and underneath so clean? Mine isnt rusty or anything. Just wondering, how do you get to the hard to reach places, and what products? Any answer would be great thank you.
I use a degreaser like concentrated simple green and some towels to clean everything under the hood. I spent about 20hrs to get it really clean. Then I apply tire shine gel with another towel to all the rubber and plastics. I let that sit for a few days, drive the car, and then wipe everything down with a dry towel to get the greasy look off... Underneath I use the same degreaser, then use aluminum polish and a towel on all of the aluminum. I wax the car with meguires tech wax 2.0. Just take your time on the initial clean and pay attention to details. Then after the first time you detail the car, the rest of the times will just be a tighty-up. This is my daily driver lol
hello cris i just want to tell you if is posible that you can do a video about motor treatment there is one that if you can try is bestline oil, there are two more if you can do two marvel mistery oil and auto-rx the last one only online is available, thanks and like your videos.
I noticed the ''Recycle'' symbol on the filter. Do you clean off all the used oil in it and then recycle it, or do you give to a local store (as you do with the oil itself) and they'll take care of it? Thank you!
What I like to do when it’s dripping the last little bit of the old oil out, pour maybe a quarter to a half a quart of new oil in so it flushes that last little bit of that dirty oil out. Probably doesn’t do anything more, but that’s what I like to do.
ChrisFix thanks man, I too have a C4. Mines a ‘92 black convertible, my second ‘92 convertible the first one was red and regretted selling it, hence the black one. I wish I would of gotten an 95 or 96 though, just for the fact they have OBDII, not the OBDI or is it just OBD?? I don’t know, but thanks again and have a good day man!
Brandon Herrera Here are the ramps I used and yes, I just put it in neutral so I didnt have to start the engine. I rather start the engine on level grounds when I do an oil change! Ramps: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003ZAHTC4/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B003ZAHTC4&linkCode=as2&tag=chri0e2-20&linkId=WBIZJFPOHYFB7AME
ChrisFix is there any downside to starting the car on the ramps after the oil change? I have an automatic, can I still shift it to neutral while it’s off?
Daniel Nathan Use a breaker bar. Something 24in long. You will either get the bolt off, or you will snap the head of the bolt off. Never go back to the shop that tightened it that tight! Let me know if you get it!
+KINGsizeWINNER I personally am not so sure it is a good idea but I have never tried one so I dont know. I would be concerned with something kicking up and opening it while I am driving.
ChrisFix Yup, I thought that too. Dealing with a bolt (even if stubborn to remove) twice a year is better than having catastrophic engine failure because you lost all your oil while driving. This is off-topic but I'm amazed at how knowledgeable you are about such a broad spectrum of automotive repairs; it doesn't seem like you stick to a specific area (i.e.: detailing, bodywork, etc.) Are you a licensed mechanic? If so, what is your specialization? How old are you? Sorry for the interrogation, I just couldn't this information on your Facebook or UA-cam page and am curious. Keep up the great videos.
Hey ChrisFix. I have a 85 TPI v8 corvette. and was wondering if you or anyone else on the comments could answer what is the best motor oil for me to use. My step dad's A Mechanic as well as my friends dad is, and they both say 10w 30.
Christopher Jackson It says it right in your owners manual. You want to use full synthetic 10w30 or 5w30. They even recommend using Mobile 1 which is what I use.
I would do my own oil change, but the oil filter on my car is in the bitchiest of places, and that cause oil to go all over pretty much half the underside of the car. I talked with my mechanic that I trust greatly because he does most of the things I don't have the time to do, but I have the time to do the oil change. I told him that just because of the location of the filter, I wanted him to do it, but asked if it was okay to bring my own oil and my own filter. He said that was perfectly fine, paid him for the labor, and I still know that it was done the right way.
hey chris i got a question, how many horses is this bad baby pushin? 96 lt1 ~350? how fast have you had her? i got an 86 L98 rebuilt to 365hp. i ask this because my friend has the same 96 an hes afraid to race me haha
Yes, it’s highly recommend, but it really depends on the angle. If it’s straight up and down, fill it up all of the way. Just fill it up as much as you can
Old chris is savage, no gloves
Armaan Wander pure beast
Tc can do it today but it will work too hard to see it today lol 😝 you guys are going bad

thanks for this, just got my 92 on saturday, after 15 years with a C3, BIG learning curve, great car. We love our Vettes in the UK!
@derrylsanders No problem, Im glad! That's why I make these videos! I also have how to change the fuel pressure regulator and how to change the water pump if you ever need!
4:36( here comes the mess)😁
I was off work I decided to watch your videos instead of playing GAMES 🙏
The C4 is definitely something different! Such a great car so enjoy her!!!
That's a good idea but I get nervous with metal filings that have the potential to get into the engine (even if you are changing the filter)... But that is def a good idea to prevent the oil from spilling, especially on other cars where the filter is side ways!!! Thanks!!!
No problem! Glad you find them useful!
I remember watching this years ago when I actually needed to change the oil on my Corvette, haha. Had to revisit it.
+Justin Howard, I cannot reply to your comment for some reason but I got them from Race Ramps online.
@derrylsanders If you want, I have a video on how to change the rear brakes on a PT Cruiser. The Corvette brakes will be similar... Take a look at that and if you have any questions feel free to ask me!
thanks for the video dude really help us new C4 Corvette owners out a ton
I love cars that take exactly 5 qt of oil.
thanks chris i just got a corvette an it needs an oil change glad you made a video
For a Corvette using Mobile 1 full synthetic? A dealer here is charging minimum of $50 and they prob will find a way to mess up changing the oil lol

Just bought a 90 Vette Thanks for this video bro!
While I'm not a big fan of Corvettes, I have to say, that is one sweet machine. I can tell you take care of it.

Chris came a long way
Wow, that's a great looking c4! Thanks for posting these videos, they are very informative.
It’s so crazy how far he has come
Thanks for the video! This is a lot easier than I imagined. Do you have a video on changing spark plugs?
Hi Chris, Great job. How about a video on the 'best' way to replace the heater core on this car? That's the next project on my '94 LT1, and from what I've read, it's not an easy job. Thanks-

Hey Chris, you forgot to say : "Hey guuys, ChrisFix here" I had a hard time watching because of that. Just kidding, love your videos, keep on the great work.
Just a little hint about oil comming out of the filter. You can hammer a nail or punch into the bottom of the filter to drain it.
Hi Chris,

I daily drove one for years so it's a great car. Get a 96 if possible because it is the most refined.
You should make a video featuring the vette again. It's been ages since you've included it in one of your videos.
Great video man. Hey is there a lot of trouble if I put 6 quarters instead of 5, I overfill by accident 😔

Thank you Chris!
can you do one on a 4.6 ford oilfilter housing gasket replacement. another ford problem that should have been recalled especialy on the lincoln continental
Great video. I enjoy all your stuff. What brand ramps are those?
I always warm mine up before hand so the slug loosens up and the warm oil flows out easier
Chris fix can you please make a video on how to change spark plugs in a 1990 Corvette. Please!

buen trabajo y gracias pensaba llevar el mío a el taller pero yo le aré el cambio de aceite gracias por tu video

+javier pereira I will be doing marvel mystery oil so stay tuned for that! The others I will add to the list!
I noticed the ''Recycle'' symbol on the filter. Do you clean off all the used oil in it and then recycle it, or do you give to a local store (as you do with the oil itself) and they'll take care of it? Thank you!
ORIELYS RECYCLES THEM
Do you recommend go to 10w 40 if my car has 180,000 miles ?
How high are your ramps? I think mine are way to low
What I like to do when it’s dripping the last little bit of the old oil out, pour maybe a quarter to a half a quart of new oil in so it flushes that last little bit of that dirty oil out. Probably doesn’t do anything more, but that’s what I like to do.
Nothing wrong with that. I like that idea just to go that extra bit!

Daniel Nathan Use a breaker bar. Something 24in long. You will either get the bolt off, or you will snap the head of the bolt off. Never go back to the shop that tightened it that tight! Let me know if you get it!
What camera gear did you used back then?
dude thats a BEAUTIFUL CAR
+sunsweetsuitable Thanks a lot!
+ChrisFix thats the car i really wanted...well black with targa top. i own a 05 monte ss with a couple mods. its definitely fun
1995 c4 lt1.. does it take 5 quarts oil ??
Hi there .. good job man , what is atips to flush engine cylinder from black Oil ? ChrisFix
Jamal Chevyboy Yes you can use this: ua-cam.com/video/u6UeJXkzDW8/v-deo.html
Hey Chris, what is your opinion on installing a Fumoto valve or something similar on a car's oil drain pan?
You sound so much better when you're speaking naturally and not from a script!
markj I dont speak from a script?
hey chris, what should my oil pressure read on average after an oil change?
xdeadheadx It should be the same with new and old oil. No difference.
What trolley jack do you recommend?
Hey ChrisFix. I have a 85 TPI v8 corvette. and was wondering if you or anyone else on the comments could answer what is the best motor oil for me to use. My step dad's A Mechanic as well as my friends dad is, and they both say 10w 30.
Christopher Jackson It says it right in your owners manual. You want to use full synthetic 10w30 or 5w30. They even recommend using Mobile 1 which is what I use.
Ahright cool thanks man. How many cars you got. I've got three.
Christopher Jackson I have two but I work on a ton of my families cars.
Christie have you done any chrome repair on rims. I bought some 94 ZR1's wheels and the chrome on them is chipping off. Badly
You cannot do chrome repair yourself. You have to take it to a place that will chemically strip the chrome and re-chrome them.
Stab the old filter before you take it off and let it drain. Still gets on your hands but not near as bad.
+Mikel Cope Great tip! Thanks for sharing!
Hi all. I have a 87 C4 350 TPI and am doing a top end rebuild but the motor does not deliver oil to the stock (roller) lifters.....any ideas why?
+Alex Lintern Did you warm the engine up? For some reason, it takes a few minutes for the oil to make it to the roller rockers.
Did I see orbs flying around starting at 7:38 on this video?
They're probably bugs
I would do my own oil change, but the oil filter on my car is in the bitchiest of places, and that cause oil to go all over pretty much half the underside of the car. I talked with my mechanic that I trust greatly because he does most of the things I don't have the time to do, but I have the time to do the oil change. I told him that just because of the location of the filter, I wanted him to do it, but asked if it was okay to bring my own oil and my own filter. He said that was perfectly fine, paid him for the labor, and I still know that it was done the right way.
Thank you!
hey chris i got a question, how many horses is this bad baby pushin? 96 lt1 ~350?
how fast have you had her? i got an 86 L98 rebuilt to 365hp. i ask this because my friend has the same 96 an hes afraid to race me haha
3 million
🏁Do all C4 Corvettes take the same motor oil like 5W30 or 10W30 advanced full synthetic from 1984-1996
+Bret Brennan Yes.
Ok so 5 quarts
Uhhh can I get an answer .... do I need to fill the oil filter with oil or no?
Yes, it’s highly recommend, but it really depends on the angle. If it’s straight up and down, fill it up all of the way. Just fill it up as much as you can
No Gloves? No He6 Guys ChrisFix Here? No Out with the Old and In with The New?
Don't forget to warm the car up before changing the oil to get all the gunk out and reset you change oil light in the computer.
