I Was in The Spencer Movie With Kristen Stewart!

  • Well, sort of, Sean Harris (Mission Impossible) actually played me in the movie. Here is my review of the Spencer movie that takes place over three days at Christmas in 1991.
It’s 1991 and Princess Diana is heading to Sandringham with the royal family for three days over Christmas. Her marriage to the prince of wales has become severely strained and she is well aware of his relationship with Camilla Parker Bowles and is counting the hours until she can leave. So what was real and what was made up . I can’t wait to share with you. Because I was there - in real life!
The movie begins with a title card reading “A fable from true tragedy”. So we can’t be too harsh on the things that are obviously made up. Here is my review of the movie along with a recollection of events that really happened.

He's correct Kristen Stewart was absolutely spot on regarding the accent. Even her posture seemed so accurate. And creating the illusion that she is as tall as Diana when she is quite a bit shorter.

I have to confess I was never a huge fan of the British monarchy (nor did I ever actively oppose it) BUT I had a very real soft spot for Princess Diana. How lucky you are, Chef Darren to not only have known her, interacted with her on a fairly regular basis but also to have cooked for her and the boys. You, sir, have one heck of a personal legacy!

What I loved about Diana was that she was not an “Upstairs Downstairs” kind of girl. She was just a “people person”. Love the stories you share of your time with her.🙏

I was so surprised when the cast was released and I was like “DARREN MCGRADY IS IN THIS AND I am subbed to his channel.” I kept thinking of you when “you” showed up in the movie. It’s so cool.
I felt so sad while watching the movie though. It’s always so saddening watching/hearing Princess Diana’s life because shows and movies focus on well, the drama.
I loved this video though, you’ve got an amazing kitchen.

I didn't like the movie - my problem is I remember the real Diana and none of the actresses resemble her to me. She was too unique and it's too soon after her death for all of this. Movies about princess Grace I can watch because I'm not old enough to remember Grace Kelly.

I saw the movie last night and I was pleased to see Kristen Stewart as Diana speak to the Head Chef and called him Darren! The actor doesn’t look much like our Darren, but has his compassion for the Princess. The movie has a lot of inaccuracies and I felt it was ridiculously overdramatic. Thank you for sharing. It is nice that you have such great respect for the Royal Family. Every family has their issues, their’s just happen to be spread around the world, becoming so distorted and mean. Could you do a video on how you prepared the whole turkey? I would love to know how they enjoyed it cooked.❤️

Brilliant and important video, I was not expecting you to have such a big role in the movie when I went to see it and I was surprised how stern they made you out to be!

Thanks for unraveling what was true and what wasn't. It's a film, so there's stuff there for dramatic impact and character development. It must have been an out of body experience watching yourself up on screen! Lovely kitchen, btw. Love the workspaces.

Oh my gosh Chef, I do enjoy your stories. I laughed so loud when you said the the Princess Diana was taking the Princes to McDonald's. I felt the gut punch, and then the riotous laughter I had when you related the boy's real reason to go to McDonald's.

I haven't seen it and I probably won't, but Sean Harris is a fantastic character actor. You did well to get him, Darren!

What an honor to be depicted in the movie! But with a wonderful personality like Mr. O’Grady how could they not!

Your kitchen is so lovely. I would love to cook there. So warm and peaceful and not too cluttered. One of my other favorite's, is Gordon Ramsey's kitchen.
I loved hearing your take on this story!!!

I knew you would never call her Diana…and you are a much happier person…it was a very artistic view you could tell but Kristen Stewart did an excellent job.
