While I was in college a lot of people asked what job I planned on working with an Econ degree. Economist? Something with the government? were always the guesses people had for me. It wasn’t until you said (either in class or on social media) that with an Econ degree, you can get a job anywhere they make decisions. And that gave me some piece of mind that I can go to any industry and my econ degree will have me prepared. I actually just started my first job after college and wouldn’t you know, my primary responsibilities involve using data to make decisions
Thanks Blake! I appreciate you sharing. Congrats on the job. Would love for you to come back and talk to students at NKU once you settle into your job.
Hey late to this comment but I will begin studying econimcs this upcoming 2024 Fall. Do you have any pointers or advice to understand how I can apply my degree to the workforce because whenever I tell someone I’m studying economics they think I just want to be an “economist”. I know the field is more lucrative and not as broad sounding as people look at it.
Hi I’m 27 and considering to apply at ASU with a major in Economics-business. I am ver thankful for this information. It is beyond helpful and well presented.
This is insightful! As for me, I'm an Econ Major with 2 MAs in Economics (Turkish and English). Not being fully immersed in the industry, even though I see how adaptable Econ is in most spheres. I've been into teaching with principal focus on Early Years Education, as well as ESL. I see it as exploring the frontiers of Development Economics; my theses have been interplay between Health Economics (Undergrad), Labour Economics and Economics of Education (MAs) and a paper on Agriculture. Lately, exploring the IT path to Economic with focus on EduTech and Human Capital Development. Thanks Dr. A for this video (and more that I'd be exploring) and yes, The Econ Games info! A new subscriber here!
Thank you for this video Dr. A. I am an Economics major that graduated from an affordable university. I learn that with BS in Econ, it’s difficult to find job in analytics field. I am working at a public institution currently, but the job responsibilities have nothing to do with my degree. However, I am currently in the final interview to become financial analyst at another institution, and I also decided to start Google Data Analytics Certificate to give myself an edge to enter into an analytics role.
Say, do you think a econ major (76 degrees), pretty theoretical (BA) + Data science minor(40 credits) is good enough for most analytics and DS roles? @@EconWithDrA Its more or less a cs minor but done in information systems department. Core cs courses + big data, machine learning and a few more
Thanks for covering this topic it was really helpful I hope you make a video about the possible branches of economics in a masters degree , I’m graduating soon from my bachelor in economics and I’m still not sure what to do for my masters I’m 100% sure about continuing my studies but still concerned about the branche i should continue on Thanks for helping your students Dr
That’s a good topic idea. Will add it to my list. I have some videos about master’s programs and interviews with other professors that might be of interest to you
Hi Dr. A. This video has excellent points for anyone that needs a guide on what to do or what to think about after graduating with a degree. As an online student, I have not been able to find a career mentor which also doesn't help me with point #4 Research. What would you suggest? I am trying to stay up to date with the world as much as possible but I know I am not catching it all. I have signed up for an AEA membership and need to read those articles. I am still figuring out how to find my preference for Economics. Thank you.
Please make a video on M.S in environmental economics in the USA and job opportunities. And also suggest some good University and programme for it in USA... Take love from Bangladesh.
As am from india am studying 3rd yr be in computer science engineering but am truly interested in doing masters in economics what should i do as its hard to get into university because i didn't study economic in bachelor degree

Hi Dr. its great to have found your channel, I happened to come across financial markets and been 2 years trading futures. I wanted to go for economics instead of other business or finance specific degrees , Can you tell me if studying economics will be relevant to finding jobs in prop firms, banks and be helpful in learning and understanding financial markets at personal level as well?

Hello sir I'm from india🇮🇳and I'm going to do master in China, from hunan university🎓 in My subject is MS ECONOMIC. so what is the scope and starting package in this sector... Pls tell me it's very helpful for me and my family future.... Your living student. Thank you🌹
Really a useful information. Firstly I thank you sir for being so frank. I'm pursuing Bsc in mathematics and planning to do Masters in economics. Which is better MA economics or Msc economics?
Thanks for the feedback. I think both are helpful choices. It will depend on your interest. MA tend to be more theory based and MS tend to be more applied. Although these days that distinction isn’t as clear cut.
hi Dr. A new subscriber here! i am an econ major and i was wondering if you could help me with computer programs that can help me improve my data analytical skills, unfortunately at my university we are only introduced to stata so i was wondering if there are any similar programs that i should familiarize myself with.

Thank you very much Dr.Am Isaac from Uganda,a teacher of economics. The question is"is economics the same as entrepreneurship as discipline.
No, Economics is like a foundation for entrepreneurship but they're very different discipline from each other

This is a good point. One thing we have been thinking about is providing summer support for students that don’t have access to research opportunities.
Please make a video on M.S in environmental economics in the USA and job opportunities. And also suggest some good University and programme for it in USA... Take love from Bangladesh.

Thank you for your insights. Could you please tell the technical skills that you think may help one land a job in economics and related domains?
Coding, Data Visualization, and Excel. Here is a video of what I expect of my students. ua-cam.com/video/szfI49oAOpA/v-deo.html

Can one do Phd directly after bachelors in Economics?
Yes, and it is preferred to do so. Work experience is not required. Work experience in research or policy may help, but is not required
