This s actually a very good study of contrasts. The two singers work very well together, and their differences help highlight each others strengths. One thing is clear - while both are trained and very talented, Zora's training is more modern and Ulli's training is more classical. That doesn't mean that there is anything wrong with either of them.
I cannot believe people are arguing the sisters / friends / lovers aspect. The two of them are clearly magical creatures, and our mere mortal designations don't apply to them. They share the names of the fairy tale sisters, but it is clear this isn't the same tale.

Thank you! It wouldn’t make sense if they were actually sisters in this video because why would the people who tear them apart do it because they fear a sisterly bond? It’s more likely they’re homophobic and either misinterpreted their friendship or else just thought their relationship was “unnatural.”

The sory of Snow White and Rose Red:
Snow White and Rose Red are two little girls living with their mother, a poor widow, in a small cottage by the woods. Fair-haired Snow White is quiet and shy and prefers to spend her time indoors, doing housework and reading. Dark haired Rose Red is outspoken, lively and cheerful, and prefers to be outside. They are both very good girls who love each other and their mother dearly, and their mother is very fond of them as well.
One winter night, there is a knock at the door. Rose Red opens the door to find a bear. At first, she is terrified, but the bear tells her not to be afraid. "I'm half frozen and I merely want to warm up a little at your place," he says. They let the bear in, and he lies down in front of the fire. Snow White and Rose Red beat the snow off the bear, and they quickly become quite friendly with him. They play with the bear and roll him around playfully. They let the bear spend the night in front of the fire. In the morning, he leaves trotting out into the woods. The bear comes back every night for the rest of that winter and the family grows used to him.
When summer comes, the bear tells them that he must go away for a while to guard his treasure from a wicked dwarf. During the summer, when the girls are walking through the forest, they find a dwarf whose beard is stuck in a tree. The girls rescue him by cutting his beard free, but the dwarf is ungrateful and yells at them for cutting his beautiful beard. The girls encounter the dwarf several times that summer, rescue him from some peril each time and the dwarf is ungrateful each time.
Then one day, they meet the dwarf once again. This time, he is terrified because the bear is about to kill him. The dwarf pleads with the bear and begs it to eat the girls. Instead, the bear pays no heed to his plea and kills the dwarf with one swipe of his paw. Instantly, the bear turns into a prince. The dwarf had previously put a spell on the prince by stealing his precious stones and turning him into a bear. The curse is broken with the death of the dwarf. Snow White marries the prince and Rose Red marries the prince's brother.

It's basically a fairytale showing that 1)people are not who they appear to be (ie the bear is not mean but very friendly, and the dwarf, while small and harmless looking, is quite evil), 2) that helping others might not seem like much, but has its own rewards (ie the bear protecting the girls, and the girls later marrying into better lives), and 3) being different, or in the case of the girls, polar opposites, does not mean that we can't get along and have good lives.
Now we know why the red queen wanted her roses red. She wanted to make sure White could find her and not feel lost.
For those who do not understand the source of inspiration, this is, unsurprisingly from a Brothers Grimm tale, Rose Red and Snow White (different from the other Snow White) are sisters who talked with a bear

I think they were goddesses or spirits of some variety, who represent a duality. Separating them was like separating life from death: they look like opposites, but they need each other. Taking one away would break the world.

In the fairy tale they're sisters, but the story in this music video/song is very different. They bear pretty much no resemblance except for their shared name. Also, this is a nitpick, but the Grimms Brothers didn't originate the story. The song is vague enough though that you can interpret it how you like. Whether someone thought they seemed like lovers or friends, their interpretation is valid!

@@rachelm9046 I beg to differ. If Blackbriar did not want to suggest a connection with the tale, then there would not be young girls representing Snow White and Rose Red as children in the video. It's the right of a music artist to bend source material. Blackbriar is a Dutch band and I'm sure each member heard the tale as children. I like the twist the band made with the story, which can be construed however a listener prefers. But since the band's own video suggests the sisters were separated as children and reunited as adults, and the song bears a couple of fairytale references, I wouldn't dive so deeply.
What if Melisandre and Daenerys were childhood friends and started a gothic band...

So, the girls in the song aren't the same ones from the fairytale, they read it and call each other by the names of the sisters to signify their close bond as _nicknames._ Seeing as nowhere in the song is their relationship actually stated/defined, it can be interpreted by the listener to mean whatever relationship the listener most resonates with. Let listeners interpret a song intentionally left open to interpretation and be nice about it, please. Just enjoy the song in your own way.

I always start crying at 2:58, when Ulli Perhonen as Snow White seems to be screaming "Rose Red!!" It makes me feel emotions I haven't felt before.
That was certainly different from the fairytale I read. I clicked on it expecting the story of two girls, a dwarf and an enchanted bear, but it`s a beautiful song.
This remembers me of a German fairytale called "Schneeweißchen und Rosenrot" so snow white and rose red. Two sisters who helped a bear to survive the winter.

For those complaining about the repetitive lyrics, think of it as an adult lullaby based on a fairy tale ( and fairy tales usually have very dark origins... ). lullabies are usually very simple structure.

I just imagined the story of these two. That there will be a White queen fell in love with the Prince of darkness. A forbidden love results a two lovely daughters. Snow White and Rose Red. After the two were born the White queen died. The two sisters were bond so deeply. But the white empire sees Snow White only, to be a perfectly soon to be a Queen just like their mother and runs the whole empire by herself; and Rose Red as just same as his father. One of the court in White empire personally confronted the prince of darkness telling him that him and the deceased white queen has a child and saying that he only had one, named as Rose Red. So then, the sisters were decided to be split away from each other that day. Taking Snow White in her mother's kingdom and Rose Red on her father's kingdom as well. But since the love from both of the sisters were strong enough, the sisters met each other again by feeling her sister's in near with her and seeing the red roses petals all the way and runs quickly to see her again for the very long time. And reunited back again as one.

Man, this band has a great feeling for dynamics and a dramtical build-up! I like those harmonies in their songs and this time they have two voices that fit together in a fantastic way. I really like the voice of Snow White, but Rose Red kills really hard! Best female voice I know.
Nah. I don't really like Zora's voice that much, I prefer Ulli's for that matter. There are plenty more female metal and rock lead singers who's voices are much more melodic than hers. I still liked this song though.

This is unspeakable charming all-consuming atmosphere. The wood, the petals of white and red scattered through the stupifying forest... The strong, permeating voices that harmonicly intertwining and complementing each other...This had so much fascination to me.

This band's sounds could originate from a dark fairy tale, where, in this context, kids' innocence and outer & inner beauty enclose a romantic secret threatened by the adults' violent intervention. Could be the gothic and more sophisticated aspect of "All the things she said" by TATU, however the musical wealth is on another level, and the vocals velvet-like and haunting.

Everyone who is commenting 'They are sisters. If you see them as lesbians, then you are wrong and shouldn't do that!'.
One, the song is simply inspired by the story. No bear or dwarf.
Two, songs can be interpreted however you want. If we want to get really into it 'Every Breath You Take' is a song about the singer stalking his wife and 'Total Eclipse of the Heart' is about a vampire. 'Closing time' is about a man whose wife is pregnant.
People find inspiration in songs and pieces of artwork and when pieces are left rather vague like this, it allows for individual interpretation and since it isn't bad (unless you are homophobic) then who cares. They aren't saying they are sisters and lesbians.
....If the song inspired in the story, obviously they're sisters. Is the same if the song talk about Hansel and Gretel.

I love the way you're seeing things xD I hate Cascada but PTX is making me consider the song a different way (these guys have a way to make awesome songs from originals I would never listen, and even hate otherwise...) I may consider to listen all of your examples with my best british/american ears(I'm french. And I never heard about "Closing time" before...) for fun.
Well, all that to say that I never really bothered to understand the song and wonder about it before. It was enough for me to be sure it was cool, but was gonna be stuck in my head and deprive me of sleep for at least a night and day! So I had to stop listening it very, very quickly to stop hearing both of that awesome voices in my head!
About the fairy tale, it's very simple: being french, I would never have made the association, since it has a completely different name for me ("Blanche-rose et Rose-pompon" => "White-rose and Rosebud") but well, I always thought, basing myself on the music video (since I couldn't understand the words. I love Blackbriar, but sometimes, the guitars, bass and battery are covering the words...) I always thought this song was about two girls being separated by cruelty (pure) and nothing more (knowing there was more, but couldn't understand...) Now, my ears and comprehension improved, and I never thought that people would argue about "being lesbian or not". Actually, I like the fact of the girls being in love since childhood. It brings a new dimension to the song. I am afraid the tale is one of the lesser known ones. What is really sad, because it is one of the very few fairytales, that show sisters, that are opposites, but are both good and are friendly to each other.

Hi Sara! In this song, they used to call each other Snow White and Rose Red, as a nickname. The fairytale was indeed my first spark of inspiration, but it isn't completely based on it.

My interpretation of the song is that they are sisters or best friends, and people notice how close they are and like in the lyrics, because people can't comprehend the bond, they fear it. I'm thinking they thought they are witches or something like that. I love it 🖤
Actually, is a german fairy tale. The girls are sisters with a strong bond, and had trouble with an evil dwarf from the woods. For me, in the song, the sisters are separated by the death, a very very sad fact because they have always been very close, even after having married, you know, each one with his prince, if you want to give continuity to the story. In the end, the two die: one bleeding (Rose Red), and Snow White of sadness. In short, everyone will give it its meaning. It's a magnificent track, a real beauty.

@@xy4195 Hi!. I think It´s a totally diferent person than the one with the 7 dwarfs. In the original story of Rose Red and Snow White, the sisters have problems with an evil dwarf from the forest and together they deal with it. Mmmm, it´s interesting, i will investigate why the name is used in both tales. Best regards!
That's a cool explanation :) I kind of got a similar vibe that they were close when they were little but torn apart because they're from different communities. Maybe Snow White is a princess and Rose Red is magical and they got separated because Snow White's family have the power to hurt Rose Red's people and have a history of having done that?

"Snow-White and Rose-Red" (German: Schneeweißchen und Rosenrot) is a German fairy tale. The best-known version is the one collected by the Brothers Grimm
Snow-White and Rose-Red are two little girls living with their mother, a poor widow, in a small cottage by the woods. Fair-haired Snow-White is quiet and shy and prefers to spend her time indoors, doing housework and reading. Dark-haired Rose-Red is outspoken, lively and cheerful, and prefers to be outside. They are both very good girls who love each other and their mother dearly, and their mother is very fond of them as well.
One winter night, there is a knock at the door. Rose-Red opens the door to find a bear. At first, she is terrified, but the bear tells her not to be afraid. "I'm half frozen and I merely want to warm up a little at your place," he says. They let the bear in, and he lies down in front of the fire. Snow-White and Rose-Red beat the snow off the bear, and they quickly become quite friendly with him. They play with the bear and roll him around playfully. They let the bear spend the night in front of the fire. In the morning, he leaves trotting out into the woods. The bear comes back every night for the rest of that winter and the family grows used to him.
When summer comes, the bear tells them that he must go away for a while to guard his treasure from a wicked dwarf. During the summer, when the girls are walking through the forest, they find a dwarf whose beard is stuck in a tree. The girls rescue him by cutting his beard free, but the dwarf is ungrateful and yells at them for cutting his beautiful beard. The girls encounter the dwarf several times that summer, rescue him from some peril each time and the dwarf is ungrateful.
Then one day, they meet the dwarf once again. This time, he is terrified because the bear is about to kill him. The dwarf pleads with the bear and begs it to eat the girls. Instead, the bear pays no heed to his plea and kills the dwarf with one swipe of his paw. Instantly, the bear turns into a prince. The dwarf had previously put a spell on the prince by stealing his precious stones and turning him into a bear. The curse is broken with the death of the dwarf. Snow-White marries the prince and Rose-Red marries the prince's brother.
