  • Towering underwater structures of the coast of Qatar are home to oilworkers above the waves. Beneath is a gathering place for giant fish, a wonder of the world's oceans: Whale sharks, the largest known extant fish species.
This documentary follows the story of the Research trip undertaken by the Maersk Oil Research and Technology Centre (MO-RTC) in partnership with the Ministry of the Environment's Whale Shark Research Project.
All the footage was captured on the Red Epic and, as such, has captured the majestic nature of these mysterious ocean wanderers.

The Marine Biologist from Quatar, was hilarious when he said"we go and ask each one their name", I laughed out loud.
I bet he's a hoot to be around.

This is a good documentary with nice music and i like the way some scenes getting changed to arts throughout the video. It's a brilliant idea of Simon to measure the Whale sharks. I have never been to Qatar, my dad had visited there in the 90s or 80s.

Great video.. Its so nice that the qatar people respect these Majestic Harmless Giants of ocean during their visits.. Here in India also the Whale Sharks visit Gujarat shoreline and they are equally respected by the fishermen who let go the whalesharks accidentally caught. Also enough awareness is created and programmes are promoted to evoke the sense of love and respect towards these marvellous creatures and to protect and conserve these Wonderful Guests of the ocean.

Pritham Srini love your respect but we are the Guests n their ocean. We need to stop polluting their water and stop over fishing it, we have a Lot to relearn!

ali scottt It used to scare me until I went snorkeling in the Bahamas. Its not so scary once you are in the water. It was the most amazing thing. Due to that experience, it has now spurred me on to get my scuba diving license.

I got a couple things to say. I'm almost certain that every whale shark has bumped into something before, thus bounderies. Also I think I can imagine what they've seen in the 80-100 years of their life. A LOT of blue. More blue than you or me could ever imagine.

Since I did ask this question I find it hard to answer yours. How would I know how dumb one should be to be as dumb as myself? If I knew that I would know exactly how dumb I am and therefor would have to be reasonably intelligent. So it's impossible for me to answer your first question. The second one should be answered by the fact that I replied to your comment.

well, it's pretty informative because this oil company on the coast of Qatar just started noticing whale sharks around it and having compassionate scientists stepping in and gathering info to help preserve the endangered species......it's hard work too, just like those Jacques Cousteau videos, they show a lot of the work being done and it's not easy.
