Still going strong with the roof rack! Ive actually sent the 2 bike one back and replaced it with the 3 bike version. Happily the 3 bike versions fits perfectly in the frunk as well!
Great video! I missed the part where you explain why you don't use spacers with the diameter of your original axle...but obviously you seem safe with the one supplied by RB. As for me, I have the model for one bike. Much easier to use because I install it on the fork before putting it on the roof. For the curious and potential buyers, I have a Specialized Kenevo SL (elec mtb) that weighs 19kg with the front wheel (max weight for the support 20kg) and I have no problems: +3000km travelled with it: city, motorway, mountain. Of course, the car's fuel consumption increases slightly, but the practical gain is not negligible for me.
I have a talon seasucker rack, I've used for years. You just need to resilicon the valve (pump button gasket) once a year or so. Unscrew the button and it pops out. resilicon the gasket after cleaning the old stuff off...and try the pumping again.
@@SteveJulien No Problem Steve. I will say with disc brake bike, I haven't tried the talon on top of my car since my new disc brake bike arrived. That's trickier and you can't just bring the fork down to the talon. I'm still working out how to do this safely without the bike tipping over and scratching the car/bike.
I dont think your suppose to use the quick release skewers with your thru axel bikes. You installed it correctly the first time with the adapters , then you just use your existing thru axel that came with your bike.
I bought this bike rack. Although it held two bikes fine going 80mph on a 100 mile trip, the wind noise coming from above was really annoying and dissasembling wheel/mounting/dismounting/reassembling and worrying if anyone is gonna steal the bike mount while im away is what made me return this thing and get yakima fullback 3. I did love this thing for allowing me to use my trunk tho. And its small/easy to store.
I just used my new sucker (Mount Evo) duo bike rack yesterday driving from Paris, France to London, U.K. I was a tad anxious that my 2 bikes would fall off and cause a major crash on the motorway but we made it fine. 1 of the 4 suckers on the main rack did not work but the rest were evidently all ok.
I have just bought the very same rockbros rack. First drive with it today. I thought I was going to have a mare of a time but it was super easy to mount. It's very unsettling hearing it on your roof but it never moved once on rough rural scottish roads
They’re very impressive. I (don’t ask) managed to hit a height barrier with my bikes on and it just partially popped off and not damage to the car. Phew!
This happened to us a few years back. Chipped my 3 glass roof and had to replace it. Now we’re extra careful during the install process. Curious to see what your wh/m were vs your normal driving.
My biggest fear! A few thousand to fix I bet. I’ve been super careful and making sure I don’t get over confident. You’ve given me an idea for a video! 💡 😊
Well, I reckon it was very brave of you to attempt an experiment like that. Or a leap of faith . . . Thanks for the terrifying entertainment. Can I let go of my seat now?
I would be absolutely terrified using suction cups on the roof of my car like that. They may be impossible to lose their grip under any circumstances 99.99% of the time. But that 0.01% whether it's the fault of the product or the person fitting it could lead to disaster. I have a two bike upright V rack which fits on my towbar. As solid as a rock but I still make a point of checking it at intervals on longer journeys. The bike rack lives permanently in the boot in case I need it or need to give anyone else's bike an unexpected lift. It takes up hardly any space. I use a trailer occasionally so I'm always going to have a towbar fitted on any car I buy that doesn't already have one. I always buy second hand. For the cost of a couple of hundred bucks it's always incredibly useful to have one anyway.
I don't think I would trust these suction cups. I'd rather shell out the extra money and get the Tesla rack. Now if there was an easy way to get a couple of 50-60 lb e-bikes up on the roof without being He-Man, that would be cool.
I sent mine back. 1) One of the suction cups didn’t work, 2) when I put the bikes on, I was afraid it was going to damage my roof because that is a lot of stress to put on a small area of a roof with thin metal, 3) The 2 bike rack was too narrow and made me reach too far to the center of my car…it was a bike drop and roof damage problem waiting to happen. I bought a 1 bike Seasucker Talon instead: It has better suction cups, a wider footprint, and can be put more toward the edge of the roof. If I need to carry 2 bikes, I’ll get another single rack.
Hey Steve wouldn’t it be easier to install the mount to the axle while the bikes on the floor and just lift up the bike and the suction cups as one peace so u don’t have any chance of damaging your car?
Weirdly, that did happen. I had a sharp hairpin turn into a carpark, didnt see the height barrier, caught the top of the bike and one side popped out and saved any damage. Very lucky really.
The suction cup in my shower that holds my back scrubber always falls off so it's a definite no from me, also unless you remove them at your destination surely they can be stolen very easily and then you're snookered. Too much messing around.
No offence but how can you be livid and ready to send it back when you’ve not even bothered to read the instructions, and balancing it on top of your car is just pure lazy. Why risk it falling just take it off the roof ffs

Thanks for the video, brother. Been looking for the Model Y bike rack and I think this will do!

@@davidwebster2616 Hmm, I mount my thru axle disc brake bike to my Talon no problem! Thanks for the tips on maintenance by the way 🙏🏻

Read the instructions first!
Glad it worked out.
I flip my bike up side down put the carrier on and the install on the car with the bike already attached to the carrier. holds on over 100mph
Great tip!
Brilliant mate, you've convinced me to buy one, cheers!
Bro if that was you "livid" that's my goal livid. Great video

Just bought 1 of these myself but abit nervous to use it but now ive seen it in action I'll give it ago. Cheers.👍👍👍
Great video, great sense of humor, man, you made me laugh and showed a good product. Thank you!!
Really nice overview 🎉
You may wish to tide down a crank arm to the chain stay with something (e.g. velcro tape) to prevent it from spinning around and damaging the roof.
He covered that at 6:40 into the video
I have trust issues with the suction caps, i do not have the guts to mount 5K bike held by suctions.

how’d you chip it? thinking of getting one for my alfa romeo giulia and the roof is all glass as well

It was scary 😂

Take something with you to stand on..not a skateboard

Great review bro this exactly what i needed.
Glad I could help
Hey Steve wouldn’t it be easier to install the mount to the axle while the bikes on the floor and just lift up the bike and the suction cups as one peace so u don’t have any chance of damaging your car?
Good idea with two people.
very useful, thank you!
great! thanks for you film.
The looks scary. I'm definetly thinking of getting a trunk bike rack instead of a roof one.
Hi, would you still recommend these having fitted a Tesla set of bars to your MY?
Hmm just realized maybe 2 mountain bike might not fit together since the handle bars are wider what are your thoughts
100% fits 2 bikes and I got a third on by having the handlebars at the back of the car.
Wow, you're braver than I am!
Great video - thanks Steve
hi it is possible to put a ladder with this roof rack or similar ...
Hopefully they pop off if u hit something , looks like it could potentially shatter the glass from my angle
Weirdly, that did happen. I had a sharp hairpin turn into a carpark, didnt see the height barrier, caught the top of the bike and one side popped out and saved any damage. Very lucky really.
Thank you, very helpful 👍
Glad it was helpful!
Truly appreciated. Thanks so much. So we can work on that Cyber truck more again as all cyclists are happy 😁
I would suggest a stepping stool and a rag with the pin on it on top of the car while you put the bike on the rack
It can be installed on a sunroof
Why take the wheels off? There is not a rack that can be used without disassembling the bike?

Could this damage the paint and rip it off? I’m thinking of getting one
As long as the surface you put it on is clean, I can’t see a problem.
Pi55ed myself over the ‘amber warning’ comment. 🤣
😂 😂
Full on David Brent moment there.
Good video. Could you get into the boot with them on?
Don't worry. I thought u had a model y
You should hold bike better never take hand off bikes before skewer is screwed in
I very if mount a bike at the rooftop.
Terrified for the guys driving behind you on the motorway
...and thats just my normal driving! haha!
I think I would spend the extra for the Tesla bars. I wouldn't trust suction.
no way would i trust it.
Does feel counter intuitive!
I have never trust that construktion
These not feel very secure. I wouldn’t risk it myself. Better start pedaling from home 😁
😂
Is your dad Jesse lee Peterson? You loook like his son lol not even playing
I've seen this suction roof racks, looks like a great product to ruin your car.
I wouldn't trust it.
People buying $60.000 cars, please don't cheap out on $600 accessories. Your cars' monthly depreciation is $1000 in average for the first 3 years
This is not about cheaping out. Its just another variant to install bikes
No offence but how can you be livid and ready to send it back when you’ve not even bothered to read the instructions, and balancing it on top of your car is just pure lazy. Why risk it falling just take it off the roof ffs
