- Join me as I venture outside of bustling Chiang Mai, Thailand, to discover a charming town just 20 minutes away that may be the perfect place for my next home! As I plan to move out of the city, I'm on a mission to explore more towns in the vicinity and possibly find my ideal expat destination.

UPDATE: I've done some digging and the capsule homes seem to be a lot more expensive online. Some sites are saying $90.000 but I can't see how they would be that much. The guy said 150,000 baht. But maybe it's to good to be true. I cant't see them being that expensive though.
I am very interested in one of those containers, Im coming to live in Chang Mae later ghis week, if you find out more, I hope you do a post,

Like with many Chinese products you really have to do your research.. A Chinese capsule home manufacturer advertised/quoted a price of $2800 plus free delivery to a US port on Aliexpress, but in inquiry directly to the company; that’s actually $2800/sqm or $260/sq ft. Not really a bargain, esp in Thailand. So I expect the high price includes the high price of shipping to the US.
They manufacture these cabins in 8’X20’ and 8’x40’ models.
That’s $42k - $84k. If they can be bought in Thailand for 150k baht plus 7% import duty into Thailand by land transport/ocean shipping directly fron China, that is indeed a deal.
There are more affordable expandable flat pack cabins from China.
@@ronkeeney1752 Yes, some of the pricing is confusing online. Probably best to have an agent or contact in Thailand. Like you said, you can get really cheap Thai made cabins also.

Great Golf Course and Club House in Mae Jo, played it many times, also Mae Jo Uni have both Men's and Women's Rugby teams, both very good.

My wife works in Mae Jo and I split my time at her place and my home in Samoeng. The only really nice thing about Mae Jo is the "900 fields" so you need to check that out. There's also a reservoir close by and a lovely temple on the mountain. The other benefit is the canal road which gets you out to the Mae Guang dam in Doi Aaket without hitting the main roads. Problem though is the damn highway which cuts through the area and makes simple things a hassle and dangerous. Since they expanded the road north to Phrao it's extremely busy and has lots of heavy vehicles. If you live on the wrong side of it like I do then Mae Jo kind of sucks. Make sure you're EAST of the highway or life will be far worse. I gave up going in to the city from there. Endless red lights and a miserable drive since you're on the highway.

North Thailand has so much to offer and great value too.Ideal winter gettaway To rent a place there is cheaper than a winter electric bill in europe. October to Febuary for best weather. That particular area had a good vibe and should be fairly vibrant in the evenings.Great video

Living in a shoe box apartment in the city v a cottage in the country is a personal choice . I know what I would rather choose at the right price . The container homes remind me of the park homes in the UK . Good video in a new area thanks mate

These pods will cost you between 15-20k usd from China, depending on quantity. Shipping is cheap and customs easy.

Great video this Wayne. So much inexpensive accommodation around and all look very livable. Loved the Godfather set up there and lovely of the man to allow you entry to film so hopefully it gets him some visitors in the future as a result. Your work is now so expansive mate. Love it. 🤩

10k THB per night on those capsule homes is pricey! A studio apartment near the moat in Chiang mai is about 5500 THB PER MONTH! I doubt the local Thai people would rent that 10k THB PER NIGHT. 😂 Thanks for video, mate! 👍
I doubt if it's 10k a night. This is set up for Chinese, but I doubt they would even pay that. I'm guessing it was 200o a night. You can get a room for 2000 a month if you wanted 👍 Thanks mate
There used to be something similar to those modules on LHS of the Lamphun to Lampang road.
They were more square though & similar size with bedroom, living area & balcony.
Can't remember the exact price but they weren't expensive.

Nice Thanks Wayne! Yeah that area is also famous for the massive lantern releases of years gone by on Loy Krathong. About those pod homes yeah their cool even Elon Musk/Tesla makes some called Tiny Homes. The ones from China are really nice & cheap. I've seen some with electronic blinds air con everything super nice 😉

Btw, that lake development is brand new. Seems to be a colony from Chinese Hong Kong people. They rented the entire lake I heard and developed that in to the park with shops, which is greatly appreciated. The homes are at least 10 mil if I recall. Out of my budget! :)
Yes, all new stuff happening at the lake. Very high end places. 10 mill is abit out of my range 🤣
@@WalkAboutWayne in fact I think they all have owners. I heard a story recently of a Chinese development getting busted for using nominees illegally. I think that's what's happening there too. Notice all the Chinese stuff in the area. There are no Thais living there.

Dude that's a great location. My wife works at the Tobacco Experiment Station off the highway so I need to cross that to go anywhere. Mae jo is nice if you get on the east side by the mountains.

If those pods are 150kBt (which I doubt - seems cheep although could certainly be produced for that but the producer would want a bigger return, I'm guessing) and the dude is charging 10kBt per night (GOOD LUCK WITH THAT - LOL as I'd not pay that for a 5* Bangkok hotel overlooking the Chao Phraya River.) he'd have each paid for in 15 days.

These Chinese capsule homes seem to be very inexpensive with free shipping to the US, unless it’s some kind of scam or mispresentation regarding the full cost and specifications.m

The cabins do look a bit more expensive online, but I've heard you can get Thai ones cheaper. No mate, I've never lived in Jomtien. I live live in the north.

I've just emailed the company that constructs those homes to see what the price is. $4,000 seems too good to be true. I'll let you know what I find out.
I've looked online and they are a lot more expensive. Seen some for $90k but I can't see how they would be that price, when you can get a house here. He said 150,00 Baht but it must be to good to be true.

@@WalkAboutWayne It’s short in yardage and you can even stay there overnight. They have a nice restaurant too. They let you shower after playing but so does Lanna. Maejo is my favorite Chiang Mai course,

Would it ever be a good idea to post up and stay near a university to get college women (of age)? I would imagine that’s how foreigners would be able to find some “veil”. Anyone ever had such success or heard story of such?
You would be ok for finding ladies here, I would say. This Uni is packed. As you mentioned, lots of Teachers and staff of age work here. 👍
