Folkvangr: A war field in the afterlife ruled by Freyja, where half of all warriors whi die in combat go, the other half going to Valhalla. Morpho Knight also refers to themself as a Valkyrie, the warrior women who would take the worthy to Valhalla, or in this case Folkvangr. It would make sense for Morpho to see themself this way, as they are believed to be the god of death. Likely Morpho appears in the Shattered Dreams to claim Leon's soul, as he should be dead, but once defeated by Kirby, their absorption ability backfires on them and Fecto Forgo takes control, leading to Chaos Efillis, until Kirby beats them too, likely making Morpho decide to just leave, as they have more important things to do.
Oh man, I wasn't expecting a female vocalist for this, but Emily singing in her lower register was great. Also I love when people pick Folvangr over Valhalla for their Norse afterlife reference.
Yeah, that really surprised me! I usually associate valkyries with Valhalla, but Morpho Knight's Japanese name is apparently a combination of "valkyrie" and "Freyja", so it being the afterlife run by Freyja fits really well. I usually see Morpho Knight interpreted more as a Hades or Grim Reaper figure, so it's nice to see this cover stick to the more accurate valkyrie and butterfly of death and rebirth theming
It's a fitting one, too, since Folkvangr is speculated to be the resting place of warriors who had no grand renown, but fought and died nonetheless. Warriors who stayed in the background, but were warriors still.
It's insane that this character started as Concept art from years ago and is now one of the coolest characters in all of Kirby lore. This cover captures Morpho Knight very well!
Took me a while to notice why Morpho Knight sounding female works well Cus female morpho butterflies have brown / yellow colors and males have blue colors on their wings
@hakai1014 adding to that, being the judgment of life Often called lady death Much like mother nature Mythology gives these natural phenomena a more feminine identity
@@hakai1014ive seen this a lot, and while there is *some* merit to it, morpho is a genus of butterfly, with many species falling under it. some species do exhibit this trait, with only the males being an iridescent blue and females being an orange or brown, but most species are not this specific. THAT BEING SAID morpho knight's japanese name, "barufurei naito", aside from being a corruption of the english "butterfly" ("naito" just being the english "knight") also appears to derive origins from the loanword "valkyrie" (barukirī), the female deities tasked with helping souls ascend to the afterlife in perparation for Ragnarok. this is in line with morpho knight's established "grim reaper" role, appearing when a being of overwhelming power is finally defeated, explains the several calls to norse mythology in the song, and makes sense for a female voice to be used for this song anyways sorry for yapping, yes i took most of this directly from morpho knight's wikirby page, and i think morpho being a valkyrie rather than just a generic knight is way cooler
it''s just the voice/singer, not "morpho being female" morpho knight has no official gender, and it's safe to assume that they're genderless or beyond the concept of gender plus, emily is excellent at playing "gender neutral primordial force" (see: Pokemon Legendary Bytes - Groudon vs Kyogre)
Not just strong enough to proceed, but strong enough to bear Morpho's true power. Why else does Kirby get an upgrade to his Sword ability that gives him Morpho's powers after this battle.
I love how this song takes a similar page from Juno’s song on Sword of the surviving guardian. Both knights are fighting Kirby, not cause they hate him or whatever, but to test his strength. To see if he’s worthy of the title, Star Warrior.
yes and but not quite, folkvangr is one of the 3 (at least that i know) places the dead can go in the norse mythology being valhalla, folkvangr and also hell itself each one having different conditions to be send there.
As I said before, Fólkvagnr and Valhalla were where the souls of those who met an honourable end went, depending on whether Freyja or Odin selected them. To elaborate on what saulmartinez said, Hel, (ruled by the goddess of the same name, who was apparently a narcissist), was where most others ended up. The exceptionally wicked, those guilty of murder, adultery, or breaking oaths, were sent to Náströnd, where their corpses were chewed upon by the wretched Níðhöggr for all eternity.
Fun fact. Fólkvangr is described to be a meadow ruled by the Goddess of Beauty, Freyja. This is destination for those who have died on combat, but many of them go to a hall that is also in thos place, the well-known Valhalla.

When i heard Morpho Knight with a feminine voice, i thought it would sound pretty unfitting, but OH MY VOID Emily killed it with this one ! (hopefully we get Hyness or Void Termina at some point !)
It actually fits incredibly well when you consider this being's design origins. Morpho Knight's Japanese name references the Norse goddess Freyja, who leads the valkyrie. These are the Norse deities that choose warriors to ascend to the afterlife. HAL Laboratories themselves have silently implied through this design process that Morpho Knight could be more female derived than the other knight characters.
I was geeking out throughout the whole song! Emily ROCKED this cover! 1:14 anybody think that Morpho knight was talking about fredo frogo here instead of Kirby? 1:41 Here, Morpho is testing Kirby to see if his power can rival her own.
Folkvangr in norse mythology is a field ruled by the goddess freya where half of those who die in combat go, the other half go to valhalla. A valkyrie is the thing that takes a fallen warrior to valhalla or folkvangr
I feel like the song is more adressed to fecto elfilis during some kind of internal battle then kirby and i LOVE IT. Man on the Internet makes pretty good music but (in my opinion) this is one of the channels masterpieces
Several parts are definitely addressed towards Kirby, like the bit about a chosen one who can "bear my true power". That's in reference to the Morpho Knight Sword blueprint you get for winning this battle.
@@gengarzilla1685 I see what you mean but could this not also be adressed to fecto elfilis since it was called "the great one" by the animals of earth ,wich is pretty close to "the chosen one", and used the power of morpho knight after this battle to form the body of chaos elfilis? And the line "dreamer your dreaming is done" MUST be adressed to fecto elfilis
@@polybeatusyea that and the “your day of reckoning comes” line is addressed to forgo but this seems to be more steered towards Kirby with the whole “virtue is power” and “chosen one bear my true power” and “prove you are worthy to clash with the butterfly’s blade” and a few other lines mainly referring to Kirby’s virtues of heart and love being put to the test against morpho knight
@@COOLBLAZECOTTO Yea you two are probably right. It would honestly confuse me if man on the internet made such references to kirby lore that not many people would get. I think the reason why i like to interpret it this way is because the whole "chosen one" line kind of confuses me if you relate it to kirby because he is never called by this title in the games, so the idea that this song is adressed to fecto elfilis kind of solved this confusion for me
Non Kirby fan: “who’s that?” Kirby fan “Death. And I don’t mean figuratively or rhetorically or theoretically or any other fancy way. They’re death straight up” By the way fantastic job with morpho knight. I always saw them as y but this way of singing is fantastic and fits a creature that doesn’t want tl fight to gain anything. They just want to beat the best. KIRBY
My personal headcanon here is that Morpho Knight fought Kirby here to decide Leongar's fate. As far as Morpho Knight was concerned, Leongar was officially living-impaired after everything Fecto Forgo had done to him, but Kirby and Elfilin had other ideas and fought Morpho Knight to keep Leongar from being dragged off to hell along with Fecto Forgo's soul.
Unlike most comments here, I actually had been expecting this creature to sound female. The connections with Valkyrie and Freya, and the orange wings, those were all known to me before. Thanks for bringing those to light. Good lyrics too.

Morpho knight being female was NOT was i was expecting...but it actually sounds pretty good!
Took me a while to notice why Morpho Knight sounding female works well
Cus female morpho butterflies have brown / yellow colors and males have blue colors on their wings
@hakai1014 adding to that, being the judgment of life
Often called lady death
Much like mother nature
Mythology gives these natural phenomena a more feminine identity
@@hakai1014ive seen this a lot, and while there is *some* merit to it, morpho is a genus of butterfly, with many species falling under it. some species do exhibit this trait, with only the males being an iridescent blue and females being an orange or brown, but most species are not this specific.
THAT BEING SAID
morpho knight's japanese name, "barufurei naito", aside from being a corruption of the english "butterfly" ("naito" just being the english "knight") also appears to derive origins from the loanword "valkyrie" (barukirī), the female deities tasked with helping souls ascend to the afterlife in perparation for Ragnarok. this is in line with morpho knight's established "grim reaper" role, appearing when a being of overwhelming power is finally defeated, explains the several calls to norse mythology in the song, and makes sense for a female voice to be used for this song
anyways sorry for yapping, yes i took most of this directly from morpho knight's wikirby page, and i think morpho being a valkyrie rather than just a generic knight is way cooler
I don't see it as male or female, I see it as androgynous.
Its gender does not matter, what matters is it's gonna bring judgement upon you.
it''s just the voice/singer, not "morpho being female"
morpho knight has no official gender, and it's safe to assume that they're genderless or beyond the concept of gender
plus, emily is excellent at playing "gender neutral primordial force" (see: Pokemon Legendary Bytes - Groudon vs Kyogre)
I love how the lyrics show how Morpho Knight has no true hatred for Kirby,
this is merely a test if Kirby is strong enough to proceed
Not just strong enough to proceed, but strong enough to bear Morpho's true power. Why else does Kirby get an upgrade to his Sword ability that gives him Morpho's powers after this battle.
@@gengarzilla1685I knew wasn’t the only one to notice that.
I love how this song takes a similar page from Juno’s song on Sword of the surviving guardian. Both knights are fighting Kirby, not cause they hate him or whatever, but to test his strength. To see if he’s worthy of the title, Star Warrior.

@@saulmartinez8885 Oh, thanks. I just used Google.

This is pure magic to me and I literally study music.
The lyrics at 2:24 seem to be from Galacta Knight since his life after being imprisoned roughly consisted of fighting, defeat, and reimprisonment across many timelines.
You made Morpho female like orange morpho butterflies actually are.
Respect for being informed, love this.
The fact that Emily also voiced Ralsei for the deltarune songs just shows what an impressive range she has!
1:26 is the same case as 1:41, referencing the Morpho Knight Sword blueprint awarded for winning this fight.
@gengarzilla1685 I think so too. I mean, why WOULD that appear just after the fight like that?
Folkvangr in norse mythology is a field ruled by the goddess freya where half of those who die in combat go, the other half go to valhalla. A valkyrie is the thing that takes a fallen warrior to valhalla or folkvangr
Yup, she's canon, baby!
Excellent job!

@@LyndenBerg Excellent!
I think the reason why i like to interpret it this way is because the whole "chosen one" line kind of confuses me if you relate it to kirby because he is never called by this title in the games, so the idea that this song is adressed to fecto elfilis kind of solved this confusion for me
@@polybeatus hey don’t beat yourself up Kirby lore is confusing in general a lot of it is still up to interpretation especially morpho knight

Kirby fan “Death. And I don’t mean figuratively or rhetorically or theoretically or any other fancy way. They’re death straight up”
By the way fantastic job with morpho knight. I always saw them as y but this way of singing is fantastic and fits a creature that doesn’t want tl fight to gain anything. They just want to beat the best. KIRBY
Emily Go slays every villain performance. Something about her deeper tones is so haunting
Never thought of Morpho Knight as a Valkyrie. I like it.
Better than the typical blend of Grim Reaper and the Devil.
THIS IS INCREDIBLE! Unironically made me like morpho quite a bit more

The grim reaper was hardly a harbinger of evil, anyway. This is just an embodiment of death doing her duty.
I didn't expect this to go this hard...
Perfection personified...
And again a masterpiece of music in my opinion, never thought giving Morpho Knight a female voice would turn out so well, but Emily rocked this song, huge fan of her voice

@@Delta_064 Slightly off topic, but there are other Kirby characters that could train or be Pokemon:
Taranza - Spinarak since their both spiders.
Sectonia (Original form) - Ariados since she was the same species before Taranza gave her the mirror, plus, she's the Queen so giving her a higher ranked form makes sense.
Sectonia (Corrupted form) - Vespequen, which would fit the appearance she had when Kirby fought her (a Queen Bee).

Daroach - Pikachu family, Marril family, Dededenne, Morpeko (all of them are mice, so it fits with the Squeak Squad)
