@@forgednotcast612 It depends on your AGE and plans you choose. Aged 60 + will pay about $450 for a good private plan, such as Blue Cross-Blue Shield Panama. Also Johns Hopkins has a hospital here in the city, but i'm not sure of its plan prices. For younger person figure about half of $450 per month. Public health care is free for permanent residents (with small fees paid before service in clinics and hospitals), and free for tourists with less than 30 days in country, especially life threatening accidents, etc. I hope this answers some of your questions.
@@israeliteinpanama3263 I appreciate your answer. Wow, $450.00 a month is not cheap. For an expat trying to retire with $1,500 to even $2,500 a month in Social Security and or Pension , that's a big chunk of money. I understand that medical procedures and medications are cheaper but that's not an inexpensive premium.
Thanks for the video! I am Panamanian but have lived my entire life in the US. I’m now planning to return to live with my kids. Planning to move August 2023! 🇵🇦
Ashley I'm jealous of you😄 Afro European here. Panama is my dream country for retirement. Hope to move there in the future! I'm so much in love with the country. What excites me most about Panama are the Afro-panamanians over there and other black folks whom I can interact with. God willing I hope I can retire there some time in the future. ALthough I live in Italy. It isnt exactly a place I fancy. I prefer warmer tropical areas. Cheers by the way and wish you best of luck in your return.

@@tohmanetokomkeh1853 hi, I'm not a expert on transitioning to Panama, since I'm a local, working overseas. But Panama has many opportunities if your a hard worker or just want to enjoy retirement.
Yes! As best I can tell , the only Caribbean country with a tropical climate and no hurricanes! Trade off of course, is a rather long and brutal rainy season.
This is so funny because when I lived in Panama I couldn't find any videos about living there now I'm finding tons. I lived in Panama for 7 years. I just moved back to the states in January because my husband passed away. We owned a home there in Chorrera, in a gated community. The house is still for sale due to Covid-19 and the strict restrictions that Panama is under at this time. Thanks for the video.
I'm so very sorry for your loss! Such a tough year and so much loss for so many. You all were in Panama when it was still one of the best kept secrets. More people are learning about it now. I'm definitely still learning about it. Do you fell like the information presented was mostly accurate?

Great video neighbor! I became an expat 2 years ago to Chiriqui, Panama.. Living the farm life in mountains near Volcan Baru and yes everything you say is on point. If you visit Chiriqui west of Boquete look me up. Loving it and growing all my food.
Hi Natasha. Thanks for watching and for your continued support. We've made a several exploratory trips to Panama but haven't been to Chiriqui yet. We're really looking forward to getting there as soon as we can complete our move. We'll definitely look you up. Congrats on living the good life. People just don't seem to understand. Where did you move to Panama from?
@@ChosenFewExpats Yes you must visit Chiriqui! It took traveling the whole country before deciding on Chiriqui. For me it was the 75 degree year round weather. I love the sun but those 90 degree Panama city days werent for me. I need fresh air and not have to use a/c. Im from city life in the states..Baltimore MD, Washington DC & NYC. Never thought I would be on a farm but I dont look back!
Hello....I've watched so many videos from ex pats....most good and informative....each with something new to offer. Yours, my friend, was the best of all. Unfortunately at my age ....88....I've passed the "Move to Panams" mark. The end of my days will be spent on the coast in Washington State. Maybe in my next life? Thanks for a well presented video. You are in the right place.....doing th right thing. Greetings from Recliner Babe and her Handsome Prince.

Younger people have a very short attention span these days. Thanks again for watching (from your recliner) and take care.
I was stationed in Panama in 1980. Beautiful country. Wonderful people. I am retiring in the next few years and Panama is at the top of my list. Thank you for the videos. I have subscribed!!
Topic(s) I would like to see covered: The process and preparation before moving. What are the most important things to finalize before moving? 1. Where do you get your mail forwarded 2. Did you switch banks 3. Are you getting a storage unit in US 4. Taxes (still filing US tax returns?) ... hopefully that's not too personal - you can skip it if it is 5. What type of Visa are you getting and does it require that you return to the states periodically 6. How long did it take to get that Visa mentioned above Thanks so much!
Thanks so much for these suggestions Georgia. We are planning a video on 120 day, 90 day, 60 day and 30 day countdown checklists prior to moving. We are going to cover all of these items in future videos but I'll go ahead an answer for you here. 1. Where do you get your mail forwarded
** Set up a Mailboxes Etc. (or similar) account in Panama. They give you a Miami address and forward your mail to Panama within 2-3 days 2. Did you switch banks ** If applying for a permanent residency visa, you will need to open a Panama bank account. We are keeping U.S. accounts also... for now. 3. Are you getting a storage unit in US ** No, we are selling or giving away everything. Some people do though. We probably will have a storage unit in Panama but they are not expensive 4. Taxes (still filing US tax returns?) ... hopefully that's not too personal - you can skip it if it is ** Not too personal at all. If earning money from the U.S., you still have to file. However, Panama does not tax offshore income. 5. What type of Visa are you getting and does it require that you return to the states periodically ** Friendly Nations Visa which is one of the easiest in the world to get. If you are retirement age and receive $1000/month, apply for the Pensionado Visa. You get all kinds of discounts on food, airfare, hotels, medications, etc. No requirement to return to the U.S. as these are permanent residency visas. The only requirement is that you enter Panama once every 2 years, otherwise you forfeit your resident status. 6. How long did it take to get that Visa mentioned above ** Typically 4-5 months but you know how it is with covid. Immigration is still only operating at 25% so you should start the process ASAP.
@@georgiamitchell9107 Thank you for taking the time to watch our video and provide these suggestions. I'll answer these in more detail in the coming videos.
Nice video. It’s great hearing from black ex-pats in PC, learning about their experiences in the country. I’m seriously considering spending substantial time there in future years. I visited PC for a week and felt it was a place I could live.
Hi Bobby. Thanks so much and thanks for watching. I just subscribed to your channel. Can't wait to check it out. Yeah, Panama had us from the first visit. We are going to live in the Nueva Gorgona / Coronado area about an hour outside of the city though. We can always get there on weekends for some city life. The people are really nice and chill as you probably felt.
You're not an _expat,_ you're an *immigrant.* Americans exploiting tax loopholes need to stop calling themselves _expats._ You've voluntarily relocated from one county to another: it's called immigration. Calling yourself an expat is top-shelf douchebaggery. If it isn't bad enough you live in privilege among underpaid locals, you attempt to romanticize your immigration status.

As an Afroeuropean I'd very much like to retire in Panama and meet black Panamanians, latino and African American expats and retirees and other black folks who are planning to move there. Panama has always been my dream country. I love the tropical beaches and warm climate weather. It's an ideal spot for blacks who want to relocate to caribbean life. God willing i hope I can move there some day. Working hard and hopefully I can start a pharmaceutical business over there someday. An African American friend of mine relocated there last year and he wants me to join him. Although I have a long way to go, I'm still working my head off to move. ❤Panama. Thanks for the vids guys.
I was also considering Africa, but I think Panama will be a better fit for me. Just have to increase my Spanish skills. It's also easier to get back to the states, if I need to get home.
Exactly! Location is very important for us. Panama is only a 2hr 15min flight from Miami and 3hr 15min flight from Atlanta as you saw in this video. Also the economy, infrastructure, etc is better in Panama than in nearly all African countries. As for the Spanish, yes... you need to brush up but with translators and apps like google translate, you can make it.

@@ChosenFewExpats Wow really? What is going to happen in the US? I wish that I could leave sooner but I will not be able to collect my full retirement for another 8 years🙁
Hi Tammy. Do you see everything that is happening in the U.S. as we speak? It is being torn apart from the inside out with all of the civil unrest. They are also provoking Iran to war with very harsh economic sanctions. Also the U.S. economy itself is a bubble ready to burst. There are lots of articles out there on these topics.
@@ChosenFewExpats , I agree that we seem to be going from bad to worse in the USA All of the political, police and racial unrest / corruption is wearing on my happy spirit. That is what caused me to start looking into retirement outside the USA in the first place. Like Tammy, I can't "officially" retire for 10 more years. But I will start looking at how I can work remotely. Thank you for all of your information. I'm still reading all the great comments.....
This was excellent information. If you have information on the type if Visa you need for those of us not old enough to be retired, that would be great. Also, any information about jobs or ability to work there as a foreigner would also be wonderful. Wishing you and your wife many blessings in your transition to ex-pat life in Panama!
Thanks so much for your kind words and for taking the time to watch. The Friendly Nations Visa is the best one to get for a non-retiree. The process is fairly easy but will take 4-6 months... maybe longer under covid. As for jobs, many careers are slated for only Panamanians and companies can only hire 10% foreigners. On top of this the wages are much lower than what you are used to here (although the cost of living is lower as well). The best options are to get a job with a U.S. company that has a facility in Panama or start an online business you can work from anywhere. Hi and thanks for watching. Many single people are still looking for 2 bedrooms and families at least 2bedrooms. As the most desired, 2 or 3 bedrooms will always be the focus. If you desire a studio or 1 bedroom, you can just assume the rental cost will be even lower.
My needs were similar when I moved here last April 2022. I wanted a fully furnished one bedroom apartment because shipping my stuff here from Florida was going to be way too expensive: over $6,000 not including Panama port charges! I first got a nice simple place in the San Francisco neighborhood for $750, then moved to a nicer place in Bella Vista with a pool and a gym for $1,000.
Great job on the video - especially for your first one. I appreciate the information and delivery. I'm looking forward to your additional videos. I started research a move to Panama about a month ago. I'm very impressed by everything that I've read - the city life, the beach life, the economics, the pensionado program, easy transportation, US dllar as the currency etc. I got so excited that I cancelled our Christmas trip to Puerto Rico and made plans to visit Panama instead. I'm really looking forward to furthering my research in person. And if nothing else, after a long 2020 of COVID, I'm looking forward to bringing in 2022 in a happy warm place! Thank you again for the information. I'm sooo glad to find a source of information from the Black perspective. I'm about to subscribe and watch your part 2. BTW, I currently live in Chicago (Southside!). I spent alot of summers and holidays in East Chicago and Gary. (My Aunt lived in EC and my brother lived in Miller). I'm a Ball State grad. It's nice to see all the NWI connections in your comments steam. Perhaps we can form our own friend family group in Panama! (smile)

Wow! Excellent video! We are coming to visit at beginning of April. Hopefully, if you guys do tours or can recommend relocation tour guide. This will be our first visit.
We don't do tours. There are a couple relocation of tour companies but you would have had to book long before April. I can recommend a driver to give you a personal guided tour. Oma Gordon +507 6537-5035 on WhatsApp

Hi Adrian. Thanks for taking the time to watch and for your encouraging words. We would love to keep doing these videos. It's just a matter of finding the time because it does take time to compile the information, shoot and edit the video.
This was very informative and helpful! I'm looking forward to more of your videos. I had to laugh at the "time" part. People being late, possibly not showing up, and having to wait a long time in lines is prevalent in the US as well, so that has strengthened the patience muscle Lol. The food! When I visited Costa Rica the food was enough to make me turn my nose up when I got back to the U.S. at the food we have here.
We're glad you found it informative! Thanks for taking the time to watch. As for the time, patience is definitely something I'm working on. We agree with you 100% about the food. It's like night and day. What other topics would you like to see us cover?

Hi and thanks so much for watching. If you're a retiree, the best visa is the Pensionado visa and if not, your best option is the Friendly Nations Visa. We'll be releasing a video on the different visa types later this week.
Please email me at chosenfewexpats@gmail.com to discuss a personal consultation. We have a video on the Friendly Nations Visa and other visa options on our channel homepage. Please check it out.
I purchased a house in Santiago in 2004 and now that I am retired, I travel several times a year. At one time I mulled over the pensionado visa but decided against it because I always spend less than six months. My connection with 507 is through my wife who is from Santiago who I met while assigned to Panama with the US Navy. A great place to live out the final stretch.
Hi and thanks for watching. I assume you're from the U.S. With all that's happening in the U.S. right now it would be a good idea to go ahead and apply for the Pensionado. San Andreas Island Colombia is great to visit. It is located east of Nicaragua (spelling?). The water is fantastic color and there is shopping and restaurants. You might just like Cartagena, but be cautious when out. I would definitely visit San Andreas Island again in the future. Only negative might be the variety of food seemed kinda limited to mostly rice, beans, beef, and plantains.

Can I ask you several questions on Panama? One question is what type of healthcare is available and what are costs of public and private care plans?

Hi and thanks for watching. Yes, beautiful country and people. You're very welcome. Yes, Panama checks a LOT of boxes.
Topic(s) I would like to see covered: The process and preparation before moving. What are the most important things to finalize before moving?
1. Where do you get your mail forwarded
2. Did you switch banks
3. Are you getting a storage unit in US
4. Taxes (still filing US tax returns?) ... hopefully that's not too personal - you can skip it if it is
5. What type of Visa are you getting and does it require that you return to the states periodically
6. How long did it take to get that Visa mentioned above
Thanks so much!
They give you a Miami address and forward your mail to Panama within 2-3 days
2. Did you switch banks
** If applying for a permanent residency visa, you will need to open a Panama bank account. We are keeping U.S. accounts also... for now.
3. Are you getting a storage unit in US
** No, we are selling or giving away everything. Some people do though. We probably will have a storage unit in Panama but they are not expensive
4. Taxes (still filing US tax returns?) ... hopefully that's not too personal - you can skip it if it is
** Not too personal at all. If earning money from the U.S., you still have to file. However, Panama does not tax offshore income.
5. What type of Visa are you getting and does it require that you return to the states periodically
** Friendly Nations Visa which is one of the easiest in the world to get. If you are retirement age and receive $1000/month, apply for the
Pensionado Visa. You get all kinds of discounts on food, airfare, hotels, medications, etc. No requirement to return to the U.S. as these are
permanent residency visas. The only requirement is that you enter Panama once every 2 years, otherwise you forfeit your resident status.
6. How long did it take to get that Visa mentioned above
** Typically 4-5 months but you know how it is with covid. Immigration is still only operating at 25% so you should start the process ASAP.

great info i visited panama city like 5yrs ago enjoyed, the weather was hot, food was good but what i like most about Panama was that they use the US dollar as their currency so you are able to ascertain rather quickly if something is a good deal or not. happy travels
Thanks for taking the time to watch my brother. Agreed on all fronts. Panama definitely checks a LOT of boxes for people who want to become expats. So are you already an expat and or planning to move out of the country.

Congratulations, finally someone give an accurate information!! I have seen lots of videos about Panama, and 50 % of them are giving wrong information. That’s why is better to have boots on the ground, and do a proper research. Keep it up my friend!!

Hi and thanks for watching. Just keep planning, researching and yes... God willing you will make it happen. We look forward to having you here!
This is the first of your recordings that I've watched. It very informative. Thank you.

Hi Alethia and thanks for watching. Which benefits are you referring to? You can certainly use the funds you receive as a former member of the military to qualify for the Pensionado Visa ($1000/month) which comes with all kinds of discounts on restaurants, hotels, travel, movies, pharmaceuticals, medical expenses, etc.

While you may not be able to use your U.S. medical care, the cost in Panama is very expensive (nearly free for permanent residents).

Hi Tammy and thanks for watching! If at all possible, please speed up your plans. Things are about to get very bad in the U.S. and will only get. worse.
Check out this link -->> internationalliving.com/ways-to-make-money-in-retirement-fyl/
After you get the friendly nations Visa you can apply for a work permit so if you want to start your own business in Panama you can.

Wow. I have often thought of relocating to another country. I have subscribed and excited to learn about this beautiful place.
Hi Joe'l and thanks for watching. Panama definitely checks a lot of boxes when compared to other countries.
I'm a single senior I prefer a studio or one bedroom and I don't understand why few bloggers ever mention those options.
Excelent info bro! Good job👍

Hi Bob. Renting first is definitely the suggested path from all of the realtors we have interviewed. Please check out our interview with Panama native and realtor Victor Blades.

You can rent a house in Altos del Maria( Chame). 2 hours from Panama city. 30 minutes from Coronado.( supermakets, Hospitals, stores etc. Beautiful mountain region. I'm not involved with real state. I'm just a local. If you have a limited budget you can also find out about renting a house in a diferent place in Chame( Chicá is another option).
Thanks Moises for watching and adding your comment.
Hi Bob. How have you been? I'm just following up with you to see if you ended up coming to Panama. Please email me at: chosenfewexpats@gmail.com

Hi Junior. Thanks so much for watching. I agree! So are you an expat in Panama? If so, how long have you been in Panama?
@@ChosenFewExpats
No, served US Army, Ft. Clayton 1978 - 80, treat transition, family members are Panamanians, still living there and one of the places I've always kept on the burner for retirement.......thanks for the shout out......
I just discovered your videos. I have subscribed and found your fb pages. I did a solo travel 4 day trip in Dec 2019 to check thing out. This place is high on my list. Thank you so much for your thorough coverage of important things to consider. Also, I was encouraged to see a black expat family. BTW, I am from East Chicago, IN :)
Hi Cheryl and thanks so much for subscribing! We appreciate your support. Please let us know what other information you would like for us to cover.
Hi Cheryl. Just waving to you from Chicago. I'm originally from the south but as I was growing up I spent alot of time in East Chicago and Gary with relatives. My Aunt lived in EC, on Drummond street. I used to walk to Zel's every day. (smile). My brother lived in Gary, at Miller Beach. I went to college at Ball State to be away from North Carolina, but close to relatives I love seeing all these Northwest Indiana folks in this comment stream.
I'm just starting to research retirement outside the US. I'm excited to check out Panama. May we all find the peace that we seek!
EC in the building!! Please email me at chosenfewexpats@gmail.com
Hi Cheryl. How is my EC friend doing? So, did you end up deciding to move to Panama or elsewhere? Feel free to e-mail me at: chosenfewexpats@gmail.com

San Andreas Island Colombia is great to visit. It is located east of Nicaragua (spelling?). The water is fantastic color and there is shopping and restaurants. We visited a couple small islands that were fun and one you could walk out on a narrow sand bar with very shallow water. There were colored fish and we got to those two small islands in a boat. You might just like Cartagena, but be cautious when out. I would definitely visit San Andreas Island again in the future. Only negative might be the variety of food seemed kinda limited to mostly rice, beans, beef, and plantains.
Hi John and thanks for watching. Yes, we've seen videos on Dan Andreas Island and it looks amazing! We hope to visit there and other locations in Colombia soon.
Thanks, for a vey fine job. Appreciated your comments on religion and earning your friendships. Oorah, TED.

Thank you, first time tunning in. Coming to Panama in December to feel it out, Thinking more about Boquette due to Microclimate mountains. just information .!! Ready for the next journey!
Hi Taryn and thanks for watching. I'm sure you'll be excited for your trip. I'm enjoying seeing people start their expat journeys.
Hi Taryn. I too will be visiting Panama in December. to "feel it out". I recently starting researching Panama for retirement. I got so excited to see Panama for myself tat I canceled our Christmas trip to Puerto Rico and switched to Panama instead. I hope that we both enjoy our time in Panama and maybe will find our future homes!
Good switch. Puerto Rico is good it's not cheap. For the price you may as well come to Panama for more beautiful sights and activities.
@@ChosenFewExpats , I concur already. the 2 bedroom, 2 bath beachfront Airbnb is Panama is less than half of what I was going to pay in Puerto Rico! Definitely saved $$$!
Great video. It’s actually perfect thanks a lot.
Hi and thanks so much for watching. It was my first video so I was a little nervous.

Thanks cuz! I was a little nervous but I'll get better. Not as used to the camera as you are! :-) Yes, definitely stay tuned for more info and interviews from other expats and business owners living in Panama.

Thanks for the video !
Thanks for taking the time to watch our video.
Great video you covered a lot of info. Can speak on health care what are the dentist, optometrist etc like and the cost. Thank you 😊
Hi Tracy! Thanks for watching and for the kind words. We are going to cover health care in our next video. You can generally go for a doctor's visit or get a teeth cleaning for about $20. Many offices are modern and many doctors are U.S. trained. Healthcare plans are about $125 per couple but many expats just pay out of pocket since it's so inexpensive.
Thank you for the clear, concise, and informative vlog.
Thanks so much for watching and for the compliment. What other topics would you like to see us cover?
@@ChosenFewExpats Did you ship your household goods to Panama? If so what were the costs? Is there as much prejudice against blacks there as opposed to USA .
