Very good advice. The only additional advice I would give is that you should spend time in different parts of Panama before you decide where you want to live permanently. Places within Panama can be very different from each other. I have lived in Panama for 23 years and became a citizen 10 yesrs ago.
That's why we advise that people ONLY RENT for at least the first 1-2 years after moving to Panama. That makes it easy to move around to check out other areas. Congratulations on becoming a citizen.

I have been in Panama 27 years. One thing I think is important for those who will hire workers (such as a maid), is to be very familiar with pertinent labor laws so you don’t find yourself in a legal bind should you have to let them go for whatever reason. You will need to be familiar with social security and other wage requirements and benefits.
Would you hire a maid in America without a background check ? No different. The labor laws are to prevent abuse of workers. What is scary about fair treatment?
