As a Texan, I really admire how y'all prepare and are ready for all of that kind of cold. I guess if you ain't prepared, you're pretty much screwed I guess eh?. You guys would laugh your butts off if you came to Texas and see the rare ice event...trucks and cars in the ditch and everyone freaking out. God bless Jan! keep up the good work
Don't knock yourself so much. You should see how everybody drives up here, when the first snow falls 🤬 🤬🤬😫😫😫. It takes a while for the muscle memory to kick in, and don't apply the brakes too hard. 🤣🤣 🇨🇦 Peace
We are the same in the UK. A little bit of snow and ice and we completely grind to a halt. Once I was in Egypt when it rained, most of the staff of the hotel had never seen rain before. A bit of rain and there was complete chaos.
Another great video Jan, thanks. It almost makes me feel "cosy" when the weather is cr@p outside....but its nice and warm inside with the ol' ladies!! Many memories there of cold winter days, and warm byres. Cheers buddy, here's to winter! 🍻🥂
Really, really, enjoyed this vid! It’s always nice to get everything you wanted done for the winter 🥶 BEFORE the cold weather hits. Your sister is adorable and so cute!
I agree. I grew up in southern SK and what was recorded wasn't much of a blizzard. A blizzard would have been not being able to see the buildings across the yard. Enjoying your content.
Jan, I’m happy for you that you’re all done with draining the lagoon and filling the sand room. You seem pretty satisfied with your day’s work before the blizzard. Just one request: please keep the cold weather up in Canada. It’s 71F in Indianapolis right now and hope for no snow before Thanksgiving. We will leave for 5 months in Florida after the holiday. I’m wondering what if anything you’ll have lined up for videos now. Stay warm!
@@bettypompie4303 we were extremely fortunate my little sister lives near where we stay and they had some wind and rain with Ian but not even enough to blow any of their trees or roofing.
This video has some pretty cool camera shots Jan. We are supposed to get our first taste of a little snow here in Erie Pa on Sunday. Feel free to keep the snow up there ass long as you would like. Great video. Thanks. Keep warm.
Always enjoy your videos and seeing Neline still participating, maybe even to just provide some wit and humor. Please Keep up the great work!! Here in Central Alberta we've received ~30 cm (12") of snow in the last week, and the daily temperature between -14 C (7 F) and -30 C (-22 F), with wind chills in the -40++ ranges The early start to this winter will help exterminate or totally irradicate some critters and pestilences that plague the rest of this world.
ABSOLUTELY we will be waiting for your next video. Only Yan can make a great video out of hauling manure!! Good upbeat commentary, great video work and editing and some fun interaction with your fine sister. All adds up to a wonderful video.
I love how you take care of your animals seems like you guys really do appreciate them and what they do for you I like that about your your family Dairy keep up with the amazing job you do on the videos
Jan its 11 11 22 here in Limestone Tn and 74 degres please keep all that cold and snow up there with you lol we milked for 25 plus years i know what is like to have to be out in the cold yes we never see what you all get stay warm
Our first top loader was a gutted 7 inch auger that we welded hose hook up fittings on. It worked great, sure beat hooking up a hose at the back of the tankers.
Getting up at 12:00 and still filming. That takes dedication. I don't think I would do the same thing for my channel. Great job great video thanks for sharing and for All the work you do for us.
So cold so quickly. I think muck spreading now not allowed until spring now. Rain washes it off but I presume in Sask it's frozen and the snow will pile on top. Does the spring thaw happen as quickly as the winter freeze? How much does it cost to heat your house?
Hey Jan it's Shane here from Queensland Australia. Love the videos. We milk about 700 cows twice a day. On a 40 a side Herinbone I see it got to minus 20 there the other day it's about 30 degrees
@3:15 the panhard bar of the back axle is broken. Better get that fixed because in the event of a loaded tight turn it could break the axle linkages or suspension cylinders.
Question for you. You pointed out a cow that has produced 100k liters of milk. This is prompting my question. I watch a couple of dairy farm videos in the use. They measure production in pounds, not gallons. They are paid on the pounds of milk produced, along with adjustments of pounds of milk fat and protein. Do you normally sell your milk in kilograms, mass, or liters , volume? Just curious.
Hey Jan, I worked construction for the better part of 40 years. Everything is difficult in the cold!:( Somehow management could never figure out why productivity was lower in the cold. Must be that college degree!:) Keep up the great work.
I know a mechanic that put air conditioning in his shop for his workers and productivity went way up in the summer not working in that blasted heat and humidity. He figured it out. 👍
Thanks Jan for sharing progress updates on the first snows at the dairy. One question, while the cows are being milked, do they not receive food or conditional reinforcement? If so, what motivates them to enter the parlor to be milked? Have a nice day.👍🤟
Because their udders and teats just HURT if they aren't milked on schedule. That's all the incentive needed. Ask your mother what it felt like if the baby didn't nurse on schedule.
-10C is 14F so it shouldn't be freezing yet, the only bonus of Celsuis lol. If you dropped the end feeding the rig over the edge of the pool you could run the pump and it would loop the manure right back into the pool. The flowing movement would ensure no freezing, no need to dismantle anything. Just a thought.
Just a thought to try saw on tv show highway thru hell- try sugar beet juice on the ice….. for the tractor try out a jcb , once was told by a farmer / truck driver your in the tractor 12+ hours in your office buy what you know you will like…
A tractor was darn close to the wall and like you said it results in hitting some of the light bulbs. Got to be a drag cleaning that up so the cows don't get it in with their bedding. You are right, not a practical place where the light bulbs are.
I’m curious about your weather. What is a real blizzard? How cold / wind was this blizzard? When is it cold? When I was outside working, it was -30 C and lower. Usually got acclimated -20-30C. Noticeable colder -20 to -30. Nasty-30-44C Once had to use blow torch to get equipment running.
Yes, they don't have a sand separator on their farm. That's why the custom crew that they hire has to bring a lagoon crawler to agitate the lagoon when they empty it every summer. (It can be seen in what is currently the 13th latest video on the channel, titled: Lagoon agitation) Edit: Now the 14th latest video
He normally uses GoPro Hero Black cameras. However, he's recently started using a DLSR camera as well. (Not sure which one) His drone footage is from a DJI Grey Mavic 2 Pro.
Thanks for the early warning on the snow storm. I'm south of North Bay, ON, I think your storm will probably hit Thunder Bay and carry on east up on the top of Ontario. I might see some of it, but I doubt it. Isn't it nice to be all ready for winter?

Nice to see some whiskers, seems like a beard would be warmer... always had one working nights outside Colorado winters.
Wrap an electric heat tape around the pump housing overnight to keep it from freezing up.
Did you notice where they are on the lagoon?
That'd be a heck of a long extension cord from the barn!

Holy shit time to get the snowmobiles out 😂 just got my brand-new 2023 switchback XC 850 and I’m so excited to be able to ride for the first time

You need a really big dump trailer that can be pulled behind the loader.
You have a beautiful sister, (no worries I am old & far away) but you can let her know she is a special lady!
Hi, which brand overall are you wearing?
How many hours do cows sleep? And how many hours are the lights out in the barn each day?

It holds 9,500 gallons, or around 36,000 liters.

You can see more of Neline on her own channel: A Dairy on the Prairie.
YEAH BABY!
Smart place to put that tractor.
Be good to see vid on the new feed mill loading of the feed wagon.
you could just wheel the auger over to the pit and leave it cycling - likely help to agitate the bottom solids too.
