I've worked on similar tech for another company. It's very, very hard to test and it digs right into the OS, often in undocumented ways to look for malicious code running. I can totally see someone making a mistake and it getting through QA. What surprises me is they don't rollout in phases so the update only goes to a small portion of computers initially and problems like this caught before it hits general release. Is it possible someone got into their code? Sure but unlikely.
The premitive solution is simple: Crowdstrike pulls out the latest update from their repository. Every affected computer needs to be manually reverted back to its previous update via safe mode. Microsoft can do postmortem which would result in spanking the Crowdstrike. Big deal is insurance claims.
