Hey I'm Jani's daughter, I appreciate you guys reacting to the song and video :) Fun fact, my uncle RIck played that badass acoustic intro!
That is awesome!
This is what rocknroll is all about. My playlist will always include this classic❤️❤️❤️
Awesome ! RIP Jani and Warrant are rock n roll legends!
I remember reading the liner notes saying Rick appears courtesy of his mom.
And this music always brings a smile to my face. Such memories for us 80s kids.
Your father is missed. And remembered.
Maddi ~ I hope you know how much your dad is loved and how much he is still missed. He will never be forgotten. He was so Beautiful and so Talented in many ways!! His music will live on forever. RIP Jani! 🙏❤
Just a great rock band who never get enough credit, always only being judged for Cherry Pie when they had many great tracks. RIP Jani Lane, was truly a fantastic singer & songwriter.
jani hated that song too!!
Every time I saw Warrant live it was a great time and they were so professional. They reminded me a lot of how Cinderella was in their later Heartbreak Station years. The hair band stigma attached to these bands is so unfortunate because they were really good musicians.
Interesting trivial fact: Jani Lane actually wanted to call their follow-up album to Dirty Rotten Filthy Stinking Rich "Uncle Tom's Cabin"; but the record producers made him call the Album Cherry Pie--100% true. For that reason, Jani Lane HATED Cherry Pie until the day he died.
@@andrewludwig9251 Indeed, heard him tell the story. How the album was done, it was called Uncle Tom's Cabin. Only for the record company to demand a "Love in an Elevator" sounding first single. Hence Jani wrote Cherry Pie that night & that became the albums title & first single. As he said himself, I could shoot myself for writing that fucking song. Cheers
Totally agree
This is my favorite from them....they rocked it!!!
RIP Jani lane. Fantastic front man.
Jani said he hated Cherry Pie, if you look it up you can see him talking about all the cherry pie stuff they had to deal with, he said "so I became the cherry pie guy". Uncle Tom's Cabin was supposed to be the first song released but he showed up ready for the release and the record company had a guy there that said "we gotta have something catchy for a hit" or something like that. So they were railroaded into it. Uncle Tom's Cabin wouldn't have been the insane hit Cherry Pie was but it's definitely a much deeper, better song.
The name of the record was originally supposed to be called Uncle Tom's Cabin, the record company wanted a catchy song like Aerosmith's Love in an Elevator, so he wrote Cherry Pie and suddenly became the Cherry Pie guy, the name of the record was changed to Cherry Pie, you're right he hated the song, it's not a terrible song, but I don't blame him for hating it because it pigeon holed him!
I think the record companies screwed over many bands. Took advantage of many groups like Skid row and Ratt
I thought the name of that album was supposed to be Uncle Tom's Cabin. And the producer said he didn't hear a single and had Jani write another song which turned out to be Cherry Pie and it was just what the producer wanted so everything was changed to cherry pie. I remember seeing that interview with Jani and I could tell he was genuinely disgusted by cherry pie and said he wished to God he'd never written it.
@@josephsagona76 Yes Sir, you could see the disgust in Jani's voice and see it on his face when he spoke about it.
There was actually a bio pic planned on Jani called, no joke, "Cherry Pie Guy"! Thankfully it appears to be dead in the water, but how disrespectful. I'm sure the pic had good intentions and the title was supposed to be ironic but that just isn't the way to go imo.
I saw red by warrant I like his vocals in that song
A masterpiece. Easily one of the top 10 songs of the era.
I still get goosebumps when I hear this song til this day. Good story telling, and great rock n roll. R.I.P. Jani Lane.
Warrant is/was a very under rated band. Jani Lane ,RIP, had one of the best voices. He was such a great singer-song writer. Left us way too soon. If you liked the acoustic guitar in this song, you will like "I Saw Red", acoustic version. Great reaction and so glad that you have found Warrant.
Don't look up the acoustic version yet LOL. I just posted a whole thing that you 2 should do 1st. It'll make it real for you 2,..and for us that are fans of Jani, Warrant. Again,..just my opinion.
@@epicbattlekill Very true about his story. Really can't go wrong with any Warrant song, but it seems that this particular acoustic version never gets reacted to. It is my favorite song of theirs.
I saw him a few months before he died at Panama City Beach, FL in 2007. He opened for Great White on their 25th anniversary tour
I remember when this video was first show. On MTV
I use to cover this song in an 80's hair/metal band tribute I was in and it always went over really well. I've been in a wheelchair for a few years now and I saw them at a casino and I sat at the stage in front of the Lead Guitar player Joey and he used 1 guitar pick for their entire set and when they finished playing he bent over and handed me the pick and I still have it along with a bunch of others I have from different bands. Even us Musicians are fans too as you guys know.
I still remember the poem in this album jacket if I’m not mistaken I’m 54 so I might be wrong. “ This is to the girl in the little red shoes. She liked to party, she liked the booze. She lost her cherry, but that’s no si. Cause she still has the box her cherry came in.” Warrant is on the sound track of my teenage years. Saw them at Hammerjacks in Baltimore back in the day and heard them on wiyy 98 rock in the same city. Miss them days, but I am glad to have been alive during that time.
“Because we don’t want any bugs”. Cuts straight to opening shot of bug-filled swamp.🤣🤣
Jani Lane was a criminally underrated song writer and musician. Doesn’t get enough credit. When he died in 2011 I felt a big part of me died. The music died a little for me as well. Uncle Tom’s Cabin was supposed to be the lead single and title of what became the Cherry Pie album. The record company forced Jani to write a “hit” song and Cherry Pie was written in 45 minutes. The album and single became Cherry Pie and the rest as they say is history. RIP Jani Lane.
I used to go to a bar that basically featured live bands all the time. Between the sets there were big monitors that played rock music videos. Whenever this video played everyone would stop what they were doing go silent and watch. That's how good this song and video are.
One of their best songs excellent reaction from my two favorite reactors.🤘🤘🤘
When this song kicks in, it’s everything!
Man..., I love hearing some Jani Lane.
Same here, very underrated vocalist
Jani was definitely the driving force in that band! Wrote great songs and had a one take voice in the studio. Dog Eat Dog was such a good album but never got the recognition it should have because of the timing if it's release. RIP Jani 🙏🤘
Amazing song!!! Amazing band.
Next song we Will rock you ( cover queen) great cover of WARRANT.
First time watching this reaction...nice! I think this is their best and most creative ever song!
Warrants dog eat dog was way more creative and the song writing and vocals still sound fresh today ..hundred billion times better than cherry pie album by long way
Parts were a true story. Grew up listening to warrant, one of my favorite
I Love warrant.. JANI.👍🤘👊🏼
Saudações de Curitiba-pr Brasil.🇧🇷🤘
I saw them live with firehouse in the early 90s and they put on one of the best performances ever.
Best song Warrant ever wrote.
one of the best music videos made period
Great band. My favorite song by them is Mr. Rainmaker, but this one is a close second.
I got to meet Jani Lane at a party in Van Nuys is 1995. Sadly he passed away not far from Van Nuys, in a hotel in Woodland Hills.
The 80s were FILLED with musical juggernauts, period!
Probably my 2nd favorite Warrant song. They were underrated.
Their follow-up album, Dog Eat Dog, was arguably their best though it came out just as grunge started to take off and didn't sell as well. The song "Andy Warhol Was Right" is well-worth a listen and very different on multiple levels; deep and thought provoking, beautiful but with one hell of a drop into heaviness.
An absolutely brilliant and mostly unknown album!
Appreciate some love for Dog Eat Dog. GREAT album
Dog eat Dog was so good! Record company forcing them to do Cherry Pie and Grunge coming killed them unfortunately.
Was never a huge Warrant fan, but my jaw hit the floor the first time I saw this video on MTV. Then we started hearing about how "Cherry Pie" was a last minute demand from their label. Jani was an amazing writer, and singer, who was dismissed because of that song. He had, also, revealed that he had been drugged and sexually assaulted by a very famous musician, and the musician's manager. He never really recovered emotionally from it. RIP. 🤘💖
That famous musician you refer to was Rob Halford from Judas Priest according Bobbie Brown. He was allegedly drugged and assaulted while he was passed out
There's a bunch of so-called hair bands that are very good...too bad some people dismiss them because of the image they portrayed back in the 80s
W.A.S.P. and Cinderella were amazing as well. But then you have crap like Poison becoming big and it taints the genre.f
@@RolandDeschain1 I can't really crap on Poison that much. I actually saw them later on with Warrant and Kix and the whole show was just good fun and everyone was having a good time and that's what it's all about. Although I do remember the time CC Deville started doing a guitar solo and it went way to long and was essentially noise and droves of people were going to the bathroom or just trying to escape the noise...lol.
Travis's rwaction to the tempo change was priceless. 🤣
RIP Jani Lane, a sweet kind soul gone way to soon.
My favorite Warrant's song
I saw red would be my close second. 🤘
@@mayet4702 yeah, love that too
One of my first favorite metal songs ever. I must’ve been like 12 years old or something like that.
haha my dad was best friends with the singer Jani Lange or his real name John Oswald, that accoustic guitar is played by his older brother Eric who I have met personally...they were from Canton, Ohio!!
Let me tell y'all a story from back in the day about this song. Well.. because I'm old and have LOTS of great stories...haha! I was in the Army in 1990 at Fort Hood Texas and my barracks roommate had an extra ticket for Motley Crue and Warrant. Didn't really care for either then but i went anyway. It was in Austin early on the Dr Feelgood tour. Well we got there late and Warrant was playing all the songs i didn't like because i was metalhead. Then, last song, they said they had a new song they hadn't released yet. Then they played THIS! I was like HOLY SHIT! Where did this come from. I can remember the entire arena erupted! It was insane. Needless to say i kinda started liking them after that moment...hahaha! When a band finally realizes what they can do. There ya go kids...old man story...hahaha! Thank you guys for doing this song. 🙂
In the liner notes of my cassette tape of Cherry Pie, under the title of this song in brackets for the lyrics, Jani Lane wrote: To my dad, the greatest story teller in the world. I have always thought that was so cool. Check out Bed of Roses, Mr. Rainmaker and Song and Dance Man from this album too.
Remember this coming out in 90 hell of ride back then remember all of it. Oh there many stories like this and others people don’t even hear about
The acoustic intro is okayed played by Jani’s brother…
And in the liner notes his inclusion is courtesy of Jani’s mother
I saw them play live in the late 80s mid 90s with Whitesnake, poison and slaughter. one of my favorite songs that i can relate to and was very personal for Jani Lane was i saw red.
My favorite from them
This song is so killer... good video too
*Janie Lane had such an amazing voice. "Cherry Pie" was very gimmicky but got them noticed. You guys should check out "Blind Faith", "Mr. Rainmaker", "Sometimes She Cries", and "Heaven" (to start). They have a pretty kickass playlist. Unfortunately, bands like Warrant and Skid Row didn't get the credit they deserved at the time because cheesy glam bands were coming out of the woodwork and they were getting lumped in and perceived as just another one. Everyone praises them now but they were underappreciated back then.*
I saw them open up for Motley Crue in 1989. I was a freshman in high school and a bunch of us went. Great show . I wasn't a big fan of Warrant but they were good live. Thanks for sharing. Peace and love from Baltimore as always.
They opened for Motley during a couple of stretches on the Feelgood tour. I was not looking forward to them. All I knew of Warrant was the DRFSR studio release. Well, they opened with " Big Talk", and blew us all away for 45 minutes. So much heavier and tighter live. They played this track and a couple more tunes that ended up on "Cherry Pie". They were pretty heavy tracks, with some great harmonies from Jani. I will always blame their record company for Janis death. That Cherry Pie bullshit compromised him as an artist, and he slowly drank himself to death as a result. Never one of my favorites, but man; they could tear it up live!! RIP Jani.
My absolute favorite song by Warrant!
my favorite song/video by Warrant
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
one of my favorite songs from the 80s
so underrated!
Live version is 🔥. It's on yt. Mike Slamer on first 2 lp's. Yes, he's a beast.
My favorite song! Have my ringtone part of this
For as long as I live, I'll never understand how Warrant could have a song this amazing on the same album as a song like "Cherry Pie."
The clowns at the record company wanted a catchy song they got cherry pie but this song is much better because of the overall musicianship. R I p Jani.
Few more good one’s that I didn’t see in the comments yet. Heaven, Sometime She Cries and Thin Disguise
Never was a huge fan of warrant but this song I have always loved! Tells a great story from start to finish.
One of my favorite songs ever with just a bitchin video!
Blind faith, I saw red, Love in stereo, mr rain maker, heaven , the list goes on
Jani lanes brother played the acoustic intro on this song.. Jani gave an interview saying he hated being the cherry pie guy.. he was obviously under the influence , depressed or something.. he later said he didn't hate cherry pie and was grateful for writing it.. it was a hit after all. Warrant was a victim of timing.. they had 9 charting singles and they were only released in 89 a mere 2 years before the bottom dropped out for 80s metal.. watch warrant in Italy open for Pantera or slayer I don't recall.. you'll see them give a stellar performance live.. rocked up a little more than usual..I saw them 11 times live.. not 1 bad performance.. later on I've seen a couple less than great performances on video where Jani was obviously drunk.. but he hadn't lost his voice.. because I saw him after that sing very well again. Awesome writer, very good singer, great frontman .. and by most accounts a super nice guy
I believe that acoustic guitar part was played by Jani Lane's (singer) brother.
I'm a product of the 80's generation and this is one of the best tunes outta the hairband era
We call that a bayou down here in Mississippi.
Jani lane was one of the best songwriters there was and great vocalist
The best Warrant song imo
Sorry so long,
Just subscribed, allow me to introduce myself, people call me Papa cuz I have a crap load of kids, grandkids, and great grandkids. I have been many things over the years, a musician being one. Started touring with my first band when I was 14 (country). The next 4 years exposed me to many worldly challenges (wine, women, and drugs), and by 18 my band had transformed to southern rock, (I also broke my back in a motorcycle accident that year). I got to spend the next 4 years living the dream, made a lot of friends, Uriah Heep, April Wine, Def Leppard, Ozzy, it was incredible. Met my first wife and got married, when my son was born I walked away to be the kind of father I had been taught to be. Fast forward 35-40 years, 6 kids, 9 grandkids, and 6 great grandkids later, I went back to my country roots, still do some pickin around, but spend my time driving a school bus and and trying to be the best Papa anyone would want.
Keep having fun, all of you have such bright and unique qualities, rock on!!
You guy's rock!
yes, we loved it when it first came out in the 80s, check out Dokken, L.A. Guns, Ratt and Ozzy
Motionless in White - masterpiece 💯🔥
RIP Jani Lane.
My favorite song of theirs, so underrated.
I absolutely love a song or video that tells a story. This one is one of my top 5. GREAT reaction. AAAARRROOOOOO! 🐺
The state of Montana loves you kids ❤
Eric Turner and Joey Allen were a superb guitar duo. I loved listening to them.
Actually the Venus Flytrap is native to the eastern part of North Carolina
Savatage Summer's Rain. Criss Oliva was an amazing guitarist.
Great band , Great song...Jani Lane greatly missed
Easily the best song by Warrant.
Talking about '80s rock bands you guys should check out Tora Tora and the song is called "Walking Shoes" this is a great song and you will not be disappointed ! Love watching you guys and keep up the great reactions!
Omg! I love this song!!!
To bad the lead singer pass, they were good yay, awesome cool band 👏😎🎧🥁🎤🎸🎸🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Them G never ceases to amaze me with his song choices. 🤘
I was thinking of a totally different song. lol
Awesome surprise though. I don’t think I have heard them until now.
🤘😎
Warrant's best song. Oh and Suzy is really cute.
best vid i ever saw
THIS IS JUST A BAD ASS FUKIN SONG/////////////////
Warrant were a lot heavier than most people would think.
I think this is one of their best songs.
Cherry pie pretty much killed their image JMO.
RIP JANI LAYNE
Jani"s brother played the acoustic
Awesome to hear you react to another band than KISS. This is the hardest rocker of the Warrant catalog and more of what their fans knew they could do instead of a cheesy tune like Cherry Pie. Sad that they gave up on ballads. Heaven was outstanding 👍
I know a secret down in oncle Tom's cabin 🤘🤘🤘 this came from the cherry pie guy.. this is how it's done
It was a fug a piece of fuzz looked like a bug ? LOL
I think you would like their song "Down Boys".
check out any of their stuff BUT Cherry Pie....they have alot of good stuff, especially I saw Red acoustic version
Okay okay,...next 1 from them you should consider reacting too. 1st,...just listen to I Saw Red,...then REACT to I SAW RED(The Acoustic Version). And before both,..look up Jani,..the lead singer. Learn a bit of the history of him,.his story. Just a suggestion. That's all this is. I just know in my heart,..that Reaction would be Amazing. Love the vids,..Keep it up!!! :)
Yes. Learning more about Jani is important. His story breaks my heart.
Gotta hit DOWN BOYS next
I would love it if you guys would check out Testament songs like Souls Of Black, Over The Wall, Practice What You Preach or even the ballad The Legacy. I always think Travis looks a lot like my favorite guitarist Alex Skolnick when he was younger. Since the request ate booked solid Them G hey buddy could you help me out, if you like Testament as well that is, cheers T G and thanks W HZ
You need to react to Blind Faith by Warrant
So much good music came after cherry Pie. You might enjoy letter to a friend, machine Gun, April 2031, or Quicksand.
YOU guys gotta Check out TEN56, Yenta, Kimo, Boy, Sick Dog or Diazepam!! U will NOT b disappointed!!! 🤘🤘
This was shot in a swamp in Louisiana
