Best vocalist I've ever heard. I was a teen in the 80s and that was the best time musically but steelheart hit the scene in 1990 it was a game changer. Nobody can beat him
this band never received the recognition they deserved. that voice is on another level . world class performance and range. not to mention the ease of vocal transition is beyond perfection
As soon as I heard that voice in the movie Rock Star I searched for the owner of that incredible voice and that is how my love affair with Steel Heart started.
Oct. 31st, 1992, Denver, Colorado. Opening for Slaughter, the singer Miljenko Matijevic was climbing up a 1,000-lb. lighting truss that was improperly secured when he fell and the truss fell, landing on the back of his head, driving his face into the stage. It's a miracle he's alive, let alone can still sing. Great reaction!!!
This guy is Croatian American. He's 58 now and this came out in 1990. And he can sing it with power to this day. I'm 61 years old now and I was 30 in 1990.i cranked my system then and I crank it now. Die hard Rock n Roll Metalhead. And I do love the power ballad's.
This man went through hell. They were really just hitting their stride. This album was a smash. Their second album came out and while touring, I believe it was a lighting truss fell on top of him. He suffered severe neck, head and back injuries. The band broke up and Mike didn't perform for years. In the early 2000s I think. He started his own version of Steelheart. And that man can still SANG! Maybe not as good as he once was. But still DAMN good! I was lucky enough to have seen them live in 91. They were just phenomenal live. Saw him a few times over the last 12 years. And still puts a smile on my face.
after the truss a radio talk show (chicago or cleveland) was talking on their late night show. a doctor called in and was talking about how his voice cords may have been damaged from "tubing". he never really got the voice back the same. still a great voice, but just not as good as it was before the accident.
It was Halloween night 1992 opening for Slaughter. Mike climbed a lighting truss and it collapsed and sent him face first into the stage. It basically crushed his face and twisted his spine. He was laid up for over a year and some permanent damage was done. He never fully recovered.
One in a million voice. Not only can he reach highs that would make a soprano jealous he can stay on pitch, add distortion and grit and vibrato up there. It's insane. Major nostalgia hit for me. When I first heard it I assumed he was using some electronic trickery to hit those highs, then I saw them live. Steelheart was one of the best.
One of the GOAT vocalists right here! This song defined 80s ballads! 3 things defined the 80s hair metal scene in a nutshell, Big booming drums, killer guitar riffs and a stellar vocalist! This song pretty much sums it up completely!
@@Jen-wo6on Well technically yes, but its still considered part of the hair metal genre as it was only 1990 barely out of the 80s here, so technically you are correct, but doesn't really make it any less 80s hair metal ballad lol!
Watching Suzy Q's jaw hang open for almost a minute after he hit the note with the backbend was priceless ! ! Don't worry , you are not the first & will not be the last to have that type of reaction. He may have the greatest range of any rock singer ever.
Unfortunately, so many back in the day had amazing voices and never got recognition. Tora tora had an amazing lead singer as well, btw this was 1990 i believe
He is 67 and can still sing beautiful... And he still chews his gum while he sings he does that to keep his mouth from getting dry... I've always loved Miljenko...
This is maybe one of the best singers I have ever heard....takes me back to my love for metal and hard rock..! Steelheart has been in my CD-collection since 1992 I believe..!! Great ballad...one of the best ever made..
Can't believe you've never heard this before. I saw them live in 1992. This song and the album live was incredible. Love Steelheart. Listen to the entire album. Fantastic.
I saw this video when I was a kid.. I guess I'm used to it but I love watching people's reactions when they first hear him hit that high note.. everyones .. and I mean everyone s eyes 👀 light up!! Never fails 😂
I had their first two albums on cassette. Great band and otherworldly singer. The song Steelheart is a real slammer. Great songs. The song Sheila has his FULL range. It's insane.
One of my favorite reaction videos... her beauty, her smile, her adornment is what this song was meant for... perfect song for a beautiful true music lover.
Love that you're reacting to Steelheart. One of my favorites. My daughter who will be 29 this year got her middle name from one of their songs Everybody loves Eileen ❤
The lead singer (Michael) wrote this song for his then fiance and soon after wife. he wrote this to prove his love to her. it worked. great band and amazing range of his singing ability.
Seeing various channel's reactions to Steelheart's music and his otherworldly voice warms the cockles of my heart. I was "ground zero" when they hit the scene with their self-titled debut album the year I graduated high school: 1990. 3 groups from that era I really thought were gonna go the distance: Steelheart, Eyes, and Wildside. Then...Nirvana hit the scene in '93 and the "hair band" genre all but died off. Damn shame. The early '90s were truly a MAGICAL TIME to be alive.
The funniest part is when Suzy Q said, “would you look at that” then she stopped. Her eyes said Nordic God, her mouth said, Guitar. And, from one Darren to another, my middle name, you are correct, it is #1.
I don’t have the words. He is oh my god Great . 👍 I would have an aneurism . I have always loved this song by Steel-heart . I would love to hear more . I hope he is doing alright since his accident . Many prayers for this man . 🙏🏽
I'm a lifetime drummer, traveled the world playing with some of the biggest names in rock and I have to say that I was impressed with your snare timing at 4:13 . You nailed it girl. I watched that bit probably 10 times! Awesome.
I sang this to my wife for our 25th wedding anniversary. Not near as good as him but it's almost impossible to sing like him. He has an outrageous octave range.
My favorite song of all time for a rock ballet. She’s Gone is another great ballet. Everybody Loves Eileen and a fun one is Sticky Side Up that no one has done. You could be the first. Official Music Videos are the best examples and best made. Thanks again for sharing this wonderful song with us all. 😎
Definitely one of THE GREATEST ballads of all time. Enduring timeless monster of a song. I think there might only be one male singer who can do this justice as a cover, and that would have to be Dimash, if he decided to cover this. Otherwise, I think certain ladies would need to cover this song because those notes are SO HIGH and the singer would need GREAT breath support. Just WOW, this song has ALWAYS WOWED me since it came out. AMAZING. Luv ya!
Can I just say..... she has the full metal edge, from cut off, to prolonged drama... her timing on the drum balance is sick... thank you sweetie... I know for a fact you aren't fake... you know the music and beat. Well done.
I would dedicate this song to my ex fiance that died in a car wreck back in 2014 . This coming June 3rd will be 8 years since she died , but it still hurts cause we were together for 13 years . I miss her everyday . R.I.P. Kerrie Lynn Breedlove 7-17-76/6-3-14 .
I did the same thing for my wife. Cancer took her almost three and a half years ago. Still as depressed as the day I lost her. R.I.P. Mila Farrell-Mangone 10-15-65/8-25-19.
This is almost unreal. It’s just so hard to comprehend it, it is definitely from heaven there’s no other words to say his voice is not only angelic, but the greatest of the Angels.
My sweetheart and I used to drive down the highway windows down blasting this song on our Alpine system (all the way up) and I swear we tried to out-sing each other on the high notes. Best memory.

I’m 52 I grew up on the 60-90s music and THIS MAN is THE BEST DAMN VOCALIST OF THE LAST 50 years…PERIOD!!!!!! NO COMPARISON!!!
Only one vocalist I can think of that I would put up for debate would be Paul Rodgers of Free, Bad Company, Queen and Free Spirit.
I always LOVE the look on the face of someone who's never heard this song before the first time the lead singer reaches for the sky...
Agreed! 😎
I know, I introduce people to Sebastian Bach, then slowly to mark slaughter and then miljkey, it always blows the mind 😅
One of the greatest voices of all time. Miljenko Matijevic has the voice of an angel. The dude is so underrated.
cheers to that
Best vocalist I've ever heard. I was a teen in the 80s and that was the best time musically but steelheart hit the scene in 1990 it was a game changer. Nobody can beat him
Yes. In that era, it was Mili, Geoff Tate, Steve Perry and a lesser appreciated singer, Rik Emmett of Triumph.
No he's not underrated. Only smart people know...the dumb ones well,..will always be trained monkeys listening to sweet home alabama.

Fun fact: the lead singer Miljenko Matijevic did the singing for Mark Wahlberg’s character in the film Rock Star
As soon as I heard that voice in the movie Rock Star I searched for the owner of that incredible voice and that is how my love affair with Steel Heart started.
Both him and Jeff Scott Soto. Two great voices.
Did he cameo in that movie too? Right when wahlburg shows up to audition and that guy leaves the booth?
Glad he recovered so well after the lighting fell on him on stage breaking his jaw as well as other problems wtg
@@williamswiniuch7527 The guy leaving the booth was Michael Starr of Steel Panther. It's the only film he ever had a small cameo in.
'Sticky Side Up' is my favourite Steelheart song, but that voice can make anything good.
not sure how its possible but back in the day he went even higher live
And he still sounds amazing live.
