Great looking footage, the weight saving and start recording with a switch (arm switch for example) would be great a couple of my quads that are not really suited for sticking a gopro on. Will definitely have to try one of these out.
Index they’re just going to keep making the gopros smaller or film in much higher quality. I’d imagine people will always have a second film cam for the highest possible quality
@@SAFbikes people gut GoPro's and put them on whoops, (I do as well) they aren't much bigger than this. There is no reason why split cameras couldn't be as good, if not better. The future is stacked cameras. Also, the next move is baking in 360 cameras and logging gyro data. Hollywood already uses 5in quad's, and they want more reliable takes.
I used the small brass stand offs as bolts that come with my split mini2 for the sd card cover and the female female stand offs as nuts and just insulated with extreme hold double sided tape where I mounted it so it didn't ground out or something unwanted and it works great
Two questions that I don’t believe are addressed in the video. What was your mounting solution on a 5” build? And did you hook up any joystick or UART control on this build, or is this redundant because of the QR codes? Just bought mine because it’s a good cheap solution for a 5” not wanting to invest in a dedicated HD can yet...thanks love your videos, and pups!
I think this is the way to go. I do not fly quads yet :) but if I did I would like this camera on it instead of big HD cameras like go pro or others. Definitely the way to go IMHO
Same.. the future is micros IMO. I mean you know they will be able to get something like a gopro smaller and lighter in time..and so why bother with larger builds when the media is getting people all worked up over drones. Small light and low attention grabbing for me. Maybe a 3 inch would be the sweet spot I don't know yet.
This is the camera I have been waiting for. Thanks for a good in-depth review. The one thing I need to know is if it ALWAYS saves the video file if you unplug the battery without stopping the recording. My Tarsier only saves the videos sometimes if I forgot to push the stop button.
@@NURKFPV Awesome. That's what I need. My Runcam Splits have all saved the recordings correctly when unplugging a battery, but I just needed to know for sure. This sounds like the best split camera yet. Thank you!
Instant purchase for me - sub-250g build that can record in 4K and with good FPV latency. The only thing that worry me is that Runcam boards historically are very vulnerable to crashes. Processor have no "legs", so when the board bends on the hit even slightly, the camera usually starts glitching and eventually die.
Small cut piece of the double sided padded tape stuff , over the Sd slot. That will keep it in place well and doesn't weigh anything in comparison to a strap.
Looking at the comparison clips (thanks for those) it's clear the Split Hybrid doesn't even come close. GoPro has a much wider FOV and copes with light level changes so much better, notably at the 33s mark when you fly inside the garage then turn and fly out - the brightness on the Split Hybrid is blown out & the GoPro handles it easily. Oh well, I'll keep using my Caddx Tarsier until something better comes along.
There is a lot of FPV videos I watch....honestly I have to pick and choose who I watch simply because of time. I saw a dog ...... instantly subscribed !!!!!!! p.s. my GSDs are the best things in life.
Holy cow, dog! That was funny. Nice camera. I think it does have a place in bigger builds. Specially when you free 100g or so of a Gopro and bump the battery instead. A compromise worth to make. I have a Tarsier and I'm happy with it. The FPV feed is great, the HD video is better than nothing.
After watching this I finally think I want one of these. I didn’t like the v1 or v2 but the hybrid is definitely looking good. I just may have to get one 👍.
I use only split style cams cos I only fly 150 class. They all have some color correction. Wish they would do more raw flat colors so we can do our own correction in post. This would just be a firmware update I would think.
Hi guys, just wanted to mention that I have this camera as well, its very nice but as Nurk mentioned, the issue of the ejecting sd card is there :s, and also the connector from the camera to the board sometimes unplugs in soft/medium crashes already. Maybe you can solve it adding the strap as shown in the video but in my case I have the camera board mounted on top of the stack and there is not room for a strap
Hm. its cool. but its still a combo DVD/VHS player. never understood why people felt that they have to use the FPV feed on splits. just run whatever FPV cam you want stacked with the split. just like you would with a gopro, but still saving all that weight. with two separate lenses you dont get that tilt problem as each camera rotates on its own mount/axis. what I want is a 4k bareboard camera. no FPV out. basically the guts of a goprop with no display, no batter, nowifi. just a stripped down 4k cam that works.
how would you compare the footage between this cam and the DJI Module ? I am wondering if I should just go for the DJI goggles or get this for a Long Range quad and save weight on the GoPro.
as already commented on FB: great review - even tho it's competition to my upcoming review. Latency is really down to 1.5ms (tested). zerox they all seems to have image issues aswell, or way to much visible lag like the original splits, I had the caddx turtle which had lines in the corners and nothing got rid of them. These split cams seriously need some redevelopment...
I use the split 2 mini and yes, it has some issues with the full definition but all in all, no wdr issues or exposure issues. Not sure about the turle but using it, cruising around with my cinebee, it works pretty well. Of course this is a much slower quad. I don't recommend Run Cam, because after you purchase the camera, they removed the application of Google app, now my run cam which used otg to plug is useless! !!
That's a good question! Most the cameras (be it with AV out or fully digital) have a digital interface - namely CSI or LVDS. It's the task of the dedicated piece of hardware - typically some SoC (system on chip) to convert this data to analog video or stream it in digital format. I guess the main reason why they do it as two separate cameras is that once you set the camera to 4k 60fps mode, it's not that simple to scale it down to PAL resolution without any noticeable latencies unless you use some highly specialized hardware which might not exist in consumer market because there simply is no need for real time downsampling from 4k to PAL and converting it to analog video format. In that case, the only option is to design your own FPGA and then ASIC and deploying that is quite expensive
It has a higher bitrate and can have better color depth. The actual saturation is a difference of settings... Short way to say it is that the GoPro sees more colors than the runcam for sure, but the videos above don't give a great example of how it all can look.
