@@NURKFPV almost everytime i saw a really jaw dropping drone video it came from a micro quad. I'm certain that more than half of the shots in future Hollywood will be made with exactly the kind of drone that you are describing in this video.
For cinematic shots the best gopro settings are still not even on par for big screen video. Splits are not even close to getting to the required quality. Not to mention the lack of quality glass.
Or an SLR style lens setup and just piggyback an analog micro camera sensor. The HD camera isn't going to get lighter just because of the optics, the only way to really improve the net weight proposition is to integrate the analog FPV camera (and maybe VTX/antenna) into the HD camera and make that lighter overall.
1) This kind of innovation is really exciting. 2) Ducts can be more efficient...check out studies on the Bernoulli Effect, specifically about propeller/thrust. Fascinating stuff.
I'm very interested in what you're going for the fpv community. I think you're the first to do this, a sub 5" frame with ducts pulling video gear that heavy shooting high Def....who would have thought?
Hi Nurk, was just talking to Andy about this. I'm building one. I'm going to experiment with baro and GPS on it as well. While I'll likely run rate most of the time, I want to experiment with angle mode on a switch to also mimic a phantom with altitude hold and such. I might try 5s on it too. I have some 1507/2800kv motors that might do the trick.
@@NURKFPV I agree. I'm going to run racewire for the motors, so if it doesn't work, I'll put high-kv back on there. I'm likely going to start on 4s anyway. But I read your stuff first 😅. BTW My setup will get a cage/protector thingy in a different and less safe way - did you try other options for prop/world protection ? Thanks for sharing !
Actually, the ducts are also part of its "smoothness". The 'lips' of the ducts (which create the 'extra' thrust due to the Bernoulli effect) refuse to tilt because when they do, the Beroulli effect that was present on all the duct is only present on the lower part of it, which tilts it in the opposite direction. This results in a more 'stable' (and less responsive) behaviour.
@@NURKFPV Thanks ! I´m thinking make 1 Cinewhoop but only got 1500mHa bat. 181g per battery If u got 1 can u test and same me performance? if cant , its ok! keep your work
Why not make the quad super light and adding a bigger battery to achieve the same weight with the added power/flight time. Even if it’s just an extra 30 seconds??
Hey Nurk! Love this video, thanks for all the good info. Yup, I went and got myself a Squirt too! So I need some expert advice.. I have three different sets of motors laying around, available for this build. I have 1408-4000kv, 1407-2722kv and 1406-3300kv.. I don't know if one of these sets would work well or if I should just get the same as you have in yours.. Whatcha think????
What a great tool for getting those impossible shots! The ductwork on the Squirt is a rather crude 3D print. Wouldn't smooth, injection molded ducts be more efficient and offer more predictable flight? If someone with your flying skills is challenged to manage this in the air, it certainly wouldn't be the machine for me and a lot of other less talented pilots.... Thanks for the review and for detailing your efforts to get the Squirt flying.
Yankee Mike frame has to be carbon fiber because it cancels out motor vibration. The community has tried it, and even 3d printed frames, but the vibration made it impossible to pilot because it affected the Gyro so much. The ducts however could be injection moulding.
@@independentmind1977 so I'm using a 2,5" 3d printed frame which is extremely smooth because of the vibration dampening 3d printed material but of course it's much light and less powerful. TBS and Diatone uses also injection moulded frames. Time goes on and also materials are improving...
@@independentmind1977 The carbon doesn't cancel vibration, it is simply more rigid vs plastic frames which flex in ways that resonate and cause larger vibrations.
I love it. This unit could be the to a lot of smaller jobs I’ve previously said couldn’t done, done well anyway. Thanks for sharing this. Now I’m waiting for when you and Andy build a tiny ducted rig rocking a Red haha! Love your content.
As silly as my comment was, it made me think and realize just how far GoPro has come over the last half a decade. And try to image what they will create in the next half a decade. When I started working with drones or multirotors as I prefer. A stripped red weighed about 16lb with light glass. Now that’s what a red ghost weighs kitted out. Redlly amazes me to think what GoPro has up its sleeves for the next couple of years.

Do you plan to sell it already assembled and tuned? (minus the GoPro) Or is it gonna be a "build it yourself" only?
i wasn't planning on selling ready to roll kits, but I potentially could..
I want to buy like your drone where I can get it
Best way to fly this acro or angle?
Why not make the quad super light and adding a bigger battery to achieve the same weight with the added power/flight time. Even if it’s just an extra 30 seconds??
Have you tried byte frost yet

@@NURKFPV Thank you!
Great concise and valuable infos nurk. thanks for the tips! going for a build now..
First drone footage is a sort of David Fincher FX generated sequence.
Brilliant.
aw yis. That's what we're going for for sure
do i need to trim some 4" props?... or use 3" and trim
How does the Shendrones Nutmeg compare to the Squirt?
I personally prefer the squirt over the nut Meg
What a great tool for getting those impossible shots! The ductwork on the Squirt is a rather crude 3D print. Wouldn't smooth, injection molded ducts be more efficient and offer more predictable flight? If someone with your flying skills is challenged to manage this in the air, it certainly wouldn't be the machine for me and a lot of other less talented pilots.... Thanks for the review and for detailing your efforts to get the Squirt flying.
Hello there, I have a question!!! What about props???
what about injection moulding the frame?
Yankee Mike frame has to be carbon fiber because it cancels out motor vibration. The community has tried it, and even 3d printed frames, but the vibration made it impossible to pilot because it affected the Gyro so much. The ducts however could be injection moulding.
@@independentmind1977 so I'm using a 2,5" 3d printed frame which is extremely smooth because of the vibration dampening 3d printed material but of course it's much light and less powerful. TBS and Diatone uses also injection moulded frames. Time goes on and also materials are improving...
U r right! TBS oblivion for example..
PoeBoy I'm running a 3d printed 50/50 carbon fiber/polycarbonate frame
@@independentmind1977 The carbon doesn't cancel vibration, it is simply more rigid vs plastic frames which flex in ways that resonate and cause larger vibrations.
I love it. This unit could be the to a lot of smaller jobs I’ve previously said couldn’t done, done well anyway. Thanks for sharing this. Now I’m waiting for when you and Andy build a tiny ducted rig rocking a Red haha!
Love your content.
get in there and get it done!
That intro flight tho... very nicely done!
Do you think you can use this with the insta 360 one X?? i hope you make a video with the insta in it. :)
Definitely. I will be doing some experimenting soon.
@@NURKFPV you da man! can't wait for your experiments. please do try with/without the reelsteady. congrats on the drl win btw. :)
So.... you CAN'T use it indoors?
Great video! Have you heard about the brand new DJI Osmo Pocket? It’s uncanny that it weighs exactly the same amount as the GoPro Hero7 Black at 116g
what is the propeller of this drone Nurk ?
Where can I buy the complete kit ?
