Making simple fly complicated, or not? Domino effect is there whether we are tying simple or complicated flies. So why not acknowledge it and start from the simple stuff.

That bit is probably negligible. Plus, there is some added weight to the fly so it may compensate... I am pretty sure no one did research about it. Its only our thoughts and opinions.
I did... Whiting is softer and cheaper. Less shiny. More suitable for nyphs and wets. Spanish feather is the opposite plus more stiff making it perfect for dries.

Thicker will infact slow their sinking rate a bit .
