Im a descendant of the Ancestors of Newtown. I grew up in Brooklyn and Queens (Far Rockaway and Jamaica) The Johnson, Thompson, Van Dorn, Bayard, and Remsen lines. Thanks so much for this video. Thanks to my ancestors for leaving a positive mark on this planet!

I grew up in Newtown, Elmhurst, in several parts of it. Newtown was a farming village, home to what was believed the best apples grown in America. Excellent farmland, so good that many of the original settlers descendants still lived there into the 1880’s. There are online some copies of the Newtown newspaper and it’s funny to read the editorials in the 1880’s complaining that the town was so backward. Not enough housing, not enough good roads, no modern conveniences. That all changed when the Cord Meyer Real Estate Company decided to change the name to Elmhurst and build a modern community with running water and gas lights. It’s the area around St. Barts they first built up. That was the end of the farming village.
