I hope you reconsider the skylight idea, I have a pitched roof as well, and had a similar notion to bring in more light. The following winter I discovered that the cold and ice played hell with the window seals after a winter of troublesome leaks, the next spring found out the water damage meant the trusses had to be replaced and a new roof put on. $30,000 later, I wish I had just bought LED lights. Good luck with the new workspace!

Do you have access to a table saw because you could cut your slats from bed frame and from desk you dismantled to create more shelves to store your crafting stuffs. just a suggestion really but repurposing is what you do isn't it 😊 also with mirror you could use it as backing for your shelves so you can locate items on back of shelves when hunting for that perfect piece. frame mirror and then attach it on back!

I just wanted to stop in and tell you how much my mother and I enjoy this new channel of yours! We are both makers, and we love anything to do with treasure hunting, upcycling, assemblage, or repurposing found objects, so your mudlarking channel has been a favorite of ours for a while now. But we also have a keen interest in home improvement, gardening, sustainable practices, animals and nature, and of course, your beautiful Scotland, (we live in Florida) and so we were thrilled when you started this channel! We really enjoy sharing in your adventures as you settle into your magical Scottish homestead, and we love how you work so well together! You somehow manage to make even the most mundane projects look enjoyable, and we've thoroughly enjoyed every single video, from the assembly of the peackock shelter and the changing of the tire, to the hatching of the schwoos and the cultivation of your amazing wildflower patch. (and we can't wait to see the wysteria over your door come into bloom!)
You're living the life most of us dream of, but for one reason or another, haven't been able to achieve, so we turn to channels like this for inspiration and motivation. So,thank you for taking us along for the ride and letting us live vicariously through you! You're both just lovely, and we are rooting for you every step of the way!
P.S. I just watched your video about the felled horse chestnut tree, and heard you mention something about the two feuding families that once lived on the bordering properties. My maternal grandfather was an Armstrong, and we've traced his lineage back to Scotland. So, who knows? It may have been my ancestors who once lived on that property! 🙂

The first thing I noticed was the lack of light, and upright wall space. I would suggest 'tract' lighting with moveable light heads, so you can always have a light directly above you.
That roof line is too shallow to get into it to run electrical wires for lights. The tract lighting system is a long 'tube' so the wire can be connected from a wall. The actual light heads can be on a Goose Neck support, so they bend any direction you want. That would be the least expensive, labor wise, for getting light into that room. IF you have that style of light fixture on that side of the pond.
The Main Light fixture, again, I would opt for a multi bulb round modern chandlier style fixture; the more light bulbs you have in that room, the better the light.
Talk with paint expert for options that will reflect the most light around that room. Bright white in a high gloss comes to mind, but with this plaster, that can affect what you put on that surface.
Tables/ work surfaces need to be on the long 'half wall,' with the tract light above. That will give you plenty of space for many different types of projects and work spaces. Look at garage tool storage ideas that hang on the walls, to utilize the space on the wall above the tables... that will help keep the table tops uncluttered.
The corner of the shorter half wall is way too dark for working. THAT is where you store supplies and where I would put your repurposed shelving from the bed. Again a tract lighting system on that slanted roof with goose necks light bulb heads to direct the light where you need it. Tall Storage on the wall across from the window.
Alex, my humblest aplogies, but you do NOT want a work space under that window. That puts light IN your face and makes it harder for your eyes to focus ON the project in front of you, because that project would be in shadow. Ask me how I know this...lol.
I would reupholster that that two seat couch and put THAT under the window. That will give you a place to sit and inspect your work under natural light, because the light will come from behind you. You can also put your knees on the couch and look out the window. You need a comfy place to sit for breaks, afternoon tea in the work room, to help keep your brain fresh and rest your hands, shoulders, neck, arms and back.
The French Desk, I would put that in front of the two seat couch as an Inspection, planning and Sketching Area, and place for afternoon tea. This will give you a very comfy and stylish seating area that will catch the eye when you enter the room. The utilitarian purposes of the room of the room, are to the sides almost out of sight.
The floor I would sand it down and put a natural oil finish on it. I would add a cheap, solid color room rug under the work table to catch the pieces that fall, and protect the floor.
The Gaming chair- just sell it. It can be readjusted to sit up straight, and if you find it comfortable; make a chair slip cover to hide the racing theme.
Thank you, ladies for sharing your journey with us.

I agree with everything you described. There's no substitute for life experience, eh? 🤣🤣 If the loveseat is too low, leg extenders could be added to raise it. Also, it can be surprising how much a thorough vacuuming and upholstery shampooing can renew an old piece of furniture. 😁 Best of luck, Gail & Alex. @@noraleestone2859 Thank you for the kind words.
It's been my experience, if you are ready to throw something in the trash; you must strip it and completely change the look. Otherwise, you wil always doubt you choice to keep it. And it might be cheaper, to simply replace that piece. I would still put a comfy seating and the desk in front of the window.
I come from a family of tradesmen in the US. My grandfather was a carpenter; his brother was a plumber. My spouse studied carpentry, and their father was an electrician. Consequentially, I've learned from many people's experience. Well, and my own hand work business.

Hello ladies! I'm dying to tell you my secret for getting things done - which my kids think is hilarious but it works for me. I'm a senior now so as you can guess I have a few aches and pains. When I need to get busy I don my "supersuit" which consists of overalls ,gloves, ugly shoes and most importantly, knee pads . You will be surprised how much more you can do because you will get on your knees more (rather than bending) and your grip is much better with gloves! I look pretty funny but it really works mentally as well to get you more prepared to do the dirty work. Just felt like passing this along because my supersuit is really super haha!

Mattresses and sofas are just synthetic materials and it really does make me feel ill binning stuff for that reason 😑 Here is a top tip though, for the upright supports for storage racks and shelves, those flat packed chip board furniture pieces are great cut down and, painted and reused, with the proper wood for the shelves. 😹😹been there a few months back, but it was not a big pothole like that one, more like a small dip, but the difference is I did not get a simple flat but a total blow out it sounded like a blooming bomb going off, it ripped off the wheel arch and the corner of my rear bumper 😳😳😳and half the tyre was spread over the road the furthest part of my tyre was 10 metres away. I was on my way to a medical meeting, I rang them let them know I would not be making it, the worst part was I was exactly 11 minutes from the appointment 😹😹 the guys who put my brand new tyre on (yep brand new) would take 2 hours before they could get to me. So I walked down the road picking up all the rubber as it had to be sent back to the manufacture to find what happened as to why it blew out, when I found all of it and patched back while waiting for them to get to me to change the tyre over for me, I found no hole and the rim was in good shape.
If your wondering why I did not change it myself, well it was just 4 months before my 60th birthday and have to use a walking frame😹😹😹after I had collected all of my tyre parts I was surprised by the Doctor arriving so we could have our meeting 😹😹 the joys of living in the outback in a small community everyone helps everyone. So had my medical appointment on the side of the road😹😹while I was waiting for the tyre guys😹😹
They arrived an hour after the Dr left and I was able to drive home while they took the wheel and all the rubber to be sent away. It turned out to be a fault in the tyre so it was replaced at no cost thank goodness as 4WD tyres are expensive.
The floor should be done with polyurethane rather than paint. When my parents moved into this house the first thing they did was have all the carpet throughout the house removed, because if I visited as planed (before Mom got sick and passed away) I have allergies to old carpets and new ones overtime, the floorboards they found were very narrow as the house had been built in the 1950’s but the wood was gorges and so they had someone come in and sanded all of the floors in the house and put down two coats of polyurethane which Brough out the honey colour if the old Timbers and it looks fantastic. Because of the two coats put down it filled in 90% of the gaps and it’s stood up to the wear and tear over the past 15 years now. I have mats placed at the beds and in the kitchen, I use mats as they can be taken out every year and hosed down during the Aussie summers as they dry out with hours of being washed.
Your craft room will be great once finished, if you are putting back the loft ladder, look at the kind that comes down as a flight of stairs as this will make going up and down them a lot safer for you both, specially as your thinking of using as extra storage space.

Oh you have not seen huge potholes as yet believe me until you see the ones in our country. The good I can say about my country is, being out there changing a flat for sure someone is going stop and help. Got to love my people. I think the chair can be repurpose. Can't wait to see your craft room done.

Sorry but, I was cracking up at the tire escapade. We took off today for a Sat. adventure, mainly I wanted to go to a quilt shop for fabric and we were going to eat lunch at a very good buffet. 15 miles down the road, the tire pressure monitor went off, conveniently we were near a gas station so put air in the back drivers side tire and went on our way. Another 20 miles down the road, I had to use the rest-room, stopped and as I walked around the front of the truck, I heard a hissing sound, looked down big screw in the tire!!! So in 33 miles, 2 tires. We changed that one as it was visibly losing air. Found one tire place open 9 minutes away. Several hours later we finally got them fixed. Icing on the cake.....the first tire actually had a nail AND a screw in it. 3 punctures!! Well that day didn't go as planned. LOL

Old farm tip. Old carpet can be used for lining nesting boxes and coops to add protection in the winter time. Do not line the bottom but the ceiling and side can make for a much warmer and wind proof coziness. Also can be used inside of barns for the same reason.

I hit a Pot hole (here in Hawaii), SO huge that it broke the front Axle of my Truck!( thats a huge pot hole to do THAT)! Excellent job with the Tire/ Doughnut! I heard that Pot holes are SO vast in other countries that they plant small trees in them( because their government won't repair them). The Counsel should pay for your Tire & Wheel.👍

You can poke twine in the floor cracks with a putty knife, and varnish over the whole thing. That’ll stop your little bits from falling through…

Carry a length of steel tube in your car to help with your wheel changing. Just slip it over the wheel brace to give you extra leverage.
Apologies if this has already been said.

When they kick the tire they are checking to see if the tire moves any at all like possible tie rod end problems or upper or lower ball joints problems if those are bad the tire will wobble even sitting on the ground like that
