I totally agree with you. The PSX/Saturn versions look too cartoony while the Sega CD has a more gritty and realistic feel that really adds to the game.
Call me crazy but I think the MSX2/PC-88 versions look the best. They have the smallest color palettes but they really have a lot of character as a result: compare Gibson's death scene or the shot inside the car for example.
And as the years went by and the technology grew so did Jean-Jack Gibson's forehead until the tragic day the PS2 came out, causing it to finally explode.
I have been wanting to try this game for a while, remember when I was a kid peeking through some preview of this game and being scared by the visuals It would be nice if they ever considered to remake it, as the ds could be a perfect fit..
Damn, i loved that game! I'm glad at least Konami had the cojones to release this game, Snatcher in the U.S.! Pity the same couldn't be said about Policenauts.
@@samdiego1965 You're a fucking idiot. The Sega CD is the best one for many reasons. One, it's the only official one in English with tons of voice-acting. Two, great crisp colors and mostly uncensored. Lastly, it's got the third act plus good ost. I just beat it on an emulator. In this day and age, you can easily play any version thanks to emulation.
@pHr33kAcHu It's from the "Snatcher>>Policenauts Music Compilation of Hideo Kojima Black Disc" The track name on this OST is "Danger Dance... & Justice All".
Another difference I noticed is that the Sega CD version has a bit extra in the intro. Right before Gillian takes off he talks to his wive for a few seconds beforehand. This isn't in the PC Engine version.
At 2:09, I see Power Pro-kun from the Jikkyō Powerful Pro Yakyū series in the PlayStation version, while I see Sparkster from Rocket Knight Adventures and its same name sequel, and Bill and Lance from the Contra arcade and series in the Sega CD version. I also see Goemon from the Ganbare Goemon/Mystical Ninja series in both versions. Anyway, here are the release years of all versions from first to last: MSX2/PC88 (1988), PC-Engine CD-ROM (1992), Sega CD/Mega CD (1994), PS1/Saturn (1996).
Looking at this video I'd say that the Sega CD version is the better of them. it's the least edited if it at all I've played that one and I should again to see if there is anything I missed. The biggest thing I noticed was the shot of the Dead Junker. The PS and Saturn versions took out Jeans severed head and toned the blood down a lot.. After plaing the game and seeing this it makes me question would Snatchers act like, yeah before we go we should clean up this wall and take his head with us
But... that was a rhetorical question. You really haven't heard of emulation? If so I honestly don't know where to start in terms of explanation. I'm sure a google search would be good start. I think you'll be able to find the iso at "Rom Bomb". Remember you'll also need the bios files. Just remember that for later.
I actually think the Sega cd version looks the better out of the versions, going by this video. I've never played it so I don't know how different things are like in game, such as item names or sfx. Is it something I've missed? and if I can is it still available and playable? I don't have a sega cd so can I get an emulator?
i think sega cd is the closest version to the original pc engine, only part which is quite different is at 1:53 they took the same legs but somehow changed the body.. i think here the pc engine version looks best
As someone who has never played this before, which version would any of you recommend I play? Note that I'm willing to sacrifice graphical fidelity for an uncensored/least censored experience.
Akash Menon I would recommend the Sega CD version as it is extremely close the PC Engine version and wasn't heavily censored as some places would like you to believe ( a death scene was toned down a little bit, age of a certain character changed, etc.). I also liked that the Sega CD had the nicely done extended intro and extended Act 3..
+Akash Menon You should also try the English translation for the MSX version, the only major letdown is the long loading time, plus, the translation is questionable, but it's just mostly spelling mistakes, plus poor grammar. It's still worth playing though, but I recommend playing the Sega CD version first, which is what he recommended, so that you know what the game is about from beginning to end.
I'll go with SCD overall, though the more muted colours on PCE seem to fit the theme better at times. SAT is slightly better than PS1 but still disappointing.
I would never imagine that the Sega CD would have the best snatcher. So what if it has a small censure, it deliver the best cyber punk gfx, audio, good voice acting and just feel the best. The pc88 do look realy original and good too tho.
Damn, Jean-Jack's corpse looks a lot more terrifying on the Playstation, with the supremely dark, washed-out color scheme. I'm sure it's just to censor out the red of the blood, but even so...
i say this game kiiiinda reminds me of the movie Blade Runner with Harrison Ford and i don't mean to sound dumb, lame, or anything but i dunno. what do u guys think??
You know how much I payed for a copy of Snatcher? £3 at my local Gamestation. I shit you not, and because it was buy one get one free I got a copy of Micro Machines V3 with it for nothing. But yeah, I just got very lucky. Haven't you ever heard of emulation? That's how I first played it. ISO or the original disk, Gens can play them both.
HELL'S TEETH! I just checked this badboy out on ebay. £100 for a retro sega cd game!!! Hmm if I put a £! aside everyday i can play it in 100 days time! I may have to quit coffee... but then again i'd still have to buy a sega cd just for one game. That is unless Policenauts ever gets translated....
1:08: I wonder why the Sega CD version was the only one to have a Madonna poster in Harry's room while the other versions had Marylin Monroe. 1:25: LOL, Metal Gear looks stupid in the PlayStation and Saturn versions.
the sega cd version is the best. ironically. it's the only version of snatcher in english and it's the best version. even more ironic is that the sega cd snatcher is the only version to be never released in japan
I think the Sega CD version of Snatcher takes the cake, really. The PC-Engine version is close to it, but the colours all look much paler and more washed out. The PSX and Saturn version are really disappointing in terms of artwork and colour; the best Playstation screenshot is the shot inside Outer Heaven with Isabella onstage. It's actually *better* than the Sega CD version. (Why in the world did they give her a green bikini? What was wrong with black?)
the sega cd version looks the best to me overal a bit brighter then the pc engine version and i heard and belive that the colour limitation was reduced in this sega cd version and that in some way they carnked up the colours.sega cd isn't a flop to me i still enjoy tthe games for it more then 10 so,final fight sonic jaguar etc it had potential and the colours could have been more defnitly up to 200 but programming skills and lazyer programmers, the system showed great 3d,perhaps the 1st 3d HC.
The Sega CD version is superior, I agree. It was the only one to be translated (It also didn't exist in Japan on the SCD), the voice was done well, and the Sega CD hardware supported it nice. The bloody scenes weren't butchered like the PSX and Saturn versions, and the graphics, colors and resolution were a touch better than the PCE. The SCD was also the only version to have light gun support.
Let me save you time. Download Retroarch and its genesis plus gx core, download Sega CD usa version of snatcher, get usa bios and enjoy. I just completed the entire game on my android with no glitches.
im playing for the first time in my life... 2022 and this game is so worth it, playing the segacd version on the miyoo mini
same, man
I just completed it.
@@AzureSymbiote amazing experience
@@leonardolicho Indeed. Especially for its time.
1:54 mark, I always wondered why Jean Jack's corpse was blue in the MSX2 version
I totally agree with you. The PSX/Saturn versions look too cartoony while the Sega CD has a more gritty and realistic feel that really adds to the game.
I've always wonder what the remodeled Mk.II looked in the other versions. Thank you!
Call me crazy but I think the MSX2/PC-88 versions look the best. They have the smallest color palettes but they really have a lot of character as a result: compare Gibson's death scene or the shot inside the car for example.
this video itself is almost 10 years old
This video will be 20 soon…
And as the years went by and the technology grew so did Jean-Jack Gibson's forehead until the tragic day the PS2 came out, causing it to finally explode.
I have been wanting to try this game for a while, remember when I was a kid peeking through some preview of this game and being scared by the visuals
It would be nice if they ever considered to remake it, as the ds could be a perfect fit..
Did you ever try it?
The final act is also much longer in the Mega CD version than in the PC Engine CD version.
2:25 haha! Thats pretty clever, how Metal Gear takes the form of whatever console you're on.
Hehe i love 2:26 when they show Metal gear at the end :).. each one of the consol your playing it at.
I'm really likeing the msx ones.
Damn, i loved that game! I'm glad at least Konami had the cojones to release this game, Snatcher in the U.S.!

sega cd is the best one
Probably cuz it’s the only one you could play

All beautiful in their own way. But my favourite is the Sega CD/Mega CD.
1:07 the employees must have really been annoyed by that fan, because each version the fan is different.
@pHr33kAcHu
It's from the "Snatcher>>Policenauts Music Compilation of Hideo Kojima Black Disc"
The track name on this OST is "Danger Dance... & Justice All".
PC Engine. In America they were called Turbografx16
The SegaCD version looked the best, =D And yes, a very nice video. Thank you!

we need absolutly an hd remake with Policenauts !
why does it keep changing where each console is oriented on screen?
Is Jean-Jack Gibsons corpse twisted 180 degress?
At 2:09, I see Power Pro-kun from the Jikkyō Powerful Pro Yakyū series in the PlayStation version, while I see Sparkster from Rocket Knight Adventures and its same name sequel, and Bill and Lance from the Contra arcade and series in the Sega CD version. Very cool video. Thanks for the comparisons. And nice touch with the BGM from the Snatcher >> Policenauts album. ^^)
I used to go to your site as a reference (being the best site for both games). Why is it down? I feel very sad :(. I hope it goes back soon.
Thanks for this video.
Seems I'll have to replay the game on the Sega CD
Mustve missed out a lot playing it on the saturn back in the day
Is the music from the game? Fantastic!
Really surprised by how different each version looks. This game should be re-released on Steam!
god i love this game
a remake on ps3 would be awesome
Kojima really just remade the metal gear in Snatcher and updated his idea for MGS 4.
ha i got this game in msx2 in mint, well pleased :)
What song is this?
Which version is the best if you speak both english & japanese?
Very interesting--although, I don't know why anyone would NOT like this--How could someone not like observations?
Hopefully the ps1 version can get a translation going, I honestly really like it
Very nice video, I love this game, it doesn't matter the version!
don't forget them make my videos! those are hilarious to play now!

Doesn't this take place in the MGS universe? I think the game had some connections, like when revealing your metal partner.
Jack Gibson's Corpse on the Playstation kind of gives me the creeps

At least we ultimately got the best version as an exclusive...
Awesome! Thank you'
it was inspired by blade runner. there are quite a few obvious spots. i also believe i read the creator in the interview saying it was an inspiration.
I have to say I really like the more neon-y colors of the PCE and Sega CD versions, much more cyberpunk.
Thanks for the video!
PC?
What did they think when they made the psx/saturn version....? They look and sound aweful...
this was on ps2 dvr?
i think sega cd is the closest version to the original pc engine, only part which is quite different is at 1:53

I like the Mega CD version for it's graphics.
man thats wicked!
thanxx
SInce they're porting TurboGrafx CD games on the Wii's Virtual Console, I hope they port that version of Snatcher on the Wii.

Someday I'll get the Mega CD version, being British!
I honestly like the music in the Sega CD version more than the PC-Engine version.
Haaa! Hysterical!!

You say this because you haven't tried games like Lunar 1 & 2, Shining Force CD, Popful Mail and Final Fight CD.
lol what have they done to the psx/saturn versions - jesus
Isabella is the only thing that looks better imo on the psx/saturn.

You right, it's a bit of a mess, shouldn't it be quite the opposite?
Yeaaaaaah Sega CD all the way! If I had a PC-Engine that wouldn't be too bad either
I like the MSX version just cause i'm such a geek
Great Video! Whats sad is the quality of the PSX and Saturn versions are shit compared to the Sega CD and PCE Versions..wow.

cool

i think the sega cd version looks like the most rounded one,pc engine always has that a bit feel to it,the graphics of a pc engine cant touch sega cd.
I still maintain that the Sega CD version is the definitive one.
Gonna try Sega CD

What?! Kojima's into Hollywood movies? Like Escape From NY? And First Blood?? And The Rock??? Nooo! It can't be true!
You knew?
I think that oh shit I hae to go to work instead of ocd on snatcher.
