    These are high quality instruments, with some of the most beautiful birdseye necks you'll ever see. I don't understand haters. If it's not your kind of axe fine, but choice is good people.

      i never had ANY intention to ever pick up a music man/sterling guitar, i thought they looked familiar but slightly odd (shaping of their cutlass (s type) guitars i speak of, last weekend i was handed a sterling cutlass to try out while i was waiting for another instrument at the store, the moment i touched it, i wanted it. honestly, the best neck i've played, such a nice finish on the neck and quality build, 100% surprised, 12" radius neck that i never thought i would go over the standard strat 7.5/9 etc. i cant fault the guitar. my only problem is now wanting to put these necks on all my other guitars, or sell them all and re populate my collection

    The EBMM EVH model was and still is one of the best I've ever played...so damn comfortable to play..IMO the best feeling and playing neck in the industry!! That's why they still bring premium prices for used one's!.. Neck was friggen BUTTER!!

      I bought one the first year they came out, I was 21 years old. I never intended to sell it, but 8 years later I was married with 2 kids and the HVAC went out. The feel of the neck alone was worth my family freezing. Dammit, I should have kept it. I kid.

      Brick Breaker I think it's others taste and feel for a guitar I prefer the Luke's body more than the JP because IMO JP'S are a little odd shaped in the body and the Axis is a "rounder" guitar some people just like "S" shaped guitars and some like guitars like an Axis or a EVH guitar that are smaller all depends on taste

    8:10 Dudley calls it a Schaller trem, but it's actually a Floyd Rose II. You can see the thicker baseplate that caused them the issues. That style trem you fed the strings from the back, (through the actual saddle screws) without cutting the ball ends off. It was actually quite innovative, unsure as to why they never caught on. Also, Gimpel is being nice, talking about how the (real) Floyd Rose was "unavailable" for production guitars?! What really happened was that Fender was also courting EVH, for a signature model, and they ended up losing out to EBMM. Fender then decided (being petty) that they wouldn't sell Floyd Rose trems to EBMM for their guitars. Remember, in those days you could get an Original Floyd Rose on Fenders, Jackson/Charvel, BC Rich, Hamer, and Kramer etc. etc. virtually any and every guitar. And EVH never preferred the Gotoh to the Original Floyd. He preferred the Gotoh to the Schaller and the Floyd Rose II. Basically, he liked the Gotoh best out of the available choices that were left. lol

      Same way ESP can make ECs look like Les Pauls (And better, IMO). Changes were made to the shape which sets it apart from falling under the copyright. EVH's are slimmer, and have smaller cavities for the electronics to sit in, which makes the body not as wide and bulky. Headstocks are different, neck shape is different.

    • @johnbon6
      @johnbon6 7 років тому

      Eddie actually owns the copyright to the shape of the body. He actively lets EBMM and Peavy still produce them. but they make small changes so if he ever came back on them, they'd be free and clear.

    8:15 I love how many people talk crap when a person doesn’t have a tone knob on their guitars saying things like if you don’t have a tone knob and/or only have one pick up ur not a “dynamic” player. Whenever someone says that I say so Eddie Van Halen isn’t a “dynamic” player? Jim Root? Sammy Hagar? So many pro players don’t use tone knobs/pots pretty much most any players that use a good amount of gain don’t use them and if you watch gear vids many laugh and say they have never used a ton knob and after removing the tone pot the signal is hotter obviously because the signal isn’t going through a 250k or 500k pot. Playing a simplified guitar with just a volume knob plugged straight into an amp not using a ton of gear and 25 pedals will force you to become more creative and Eddie Van Halen is a prime example of that and there are many others like that. Most every Gear Nut I know or have met over the years were not good song writers they spent too much time with gear. One guy I know has probably 25 guitars, 20 amps, 50 pedals, he’s a great musician, great voice but not a good song writer. His band is full of all great musicians I mean the caliber of musicianship would blow anyone away, they have their own studio they really know how to record, mix and master their tracks are perfectly passable for radio but when they do covers it’s great but originals are just not good. They put too much effort into musicianship and gear but nothing into writing.

    For the first guitar it appears like the guitar is missing at least 1 screw in the pickguard, just below the bridge area or 1st string. Noticeable at about .49 to .59 seconds into video clip. He said is was one of the guitars that went to the NAMM shows in 1985, the screw must have fallen out between the manufacturing facility and the NAMM show, or there never was a screw inserted. I figure there was never a screw inserted in the first place. JUST HAD TO POINT THAT OUT ERNIE BALL/MUSICMAN. What else is frikkin missing? Wait I don't want to know! This doesn't surprise me at all, that's probably why EVH ended the partnership with EB, poor quality! Thank god EVH went to Fender for a high end quality instrument.....................................

    Way to short this interview. I bet this ernie ball man could fill a day talking about prototypes with or without famous guitar players.

    His wife Valerie released in her book that he was "sleeping with a guitar manufacturers wife" So. That's my only guess. If you ask anywhere on the MusicMan Forums sterling deletes the post lol

      Yep, I've seen some pretty shabby items in the $3k range. When they first came out they paid attention to every detail. There was no BFR line, everything was BFR and the pricing wasn't out of a horror movie. Then guitar prices went up and the most figured pieces were set aside for another pricing tier. It's a shame. I blame Gibson, but soon Gibson will be no more.

      Are you kidding? The necks on just about every Music Mans are nothing like a baseball bat, most are around 42-43mm wide and on the thinner side. Pick up a Gibson LP with a 58 neck THAT'S a bb neck & the 59 isn't a whole lot smaller either. The unfinished oiled neck and the size is exactly why I bought 3 of them 1 EVH and 2 Axis's perfect size for someone who doesn't have long fingers. Silky smooth like playing greased glass!! Changed out the the Dimarzio pups one 1 of my Axis to SD JB-4B & SH-4N and coil split them AWESOME tone machine! You can't go wrong with any Music Man guitar.
