The eggs in my Aldi have been 98 cents for the last couple of weeks limit three. I have been buying those to the limit each week. We had french toast casserole, egg sandwiches, egg salad, soft boiled eggs on toast, fried rice, egg cups, and I made homemade pasta, and homemade bread. We may be sick of eggs after a while but it was a great help to have that cheap protein

Cheap prices, yes, but where is the protein? You'll use half the eggs on the cake mix and then what do you eat? Bread, rice and biscuits. This is why poor Americans are overweight, unhealthy and diabetic. Better to just eat boiled eggs and tinned tuna all week. Definitely keep the oatmeal but you can buy a huge bag of plain for $2 that will last for weeks and so keep an eye on the added sugar.
@@oliviamartini9700 You're correct. Spend money on protien sources: eggs, beans, peanut butter on apple slices. A $4 rotisserie deli chicken can be good eats for days: wings, drumsticks, diced chicken sandwiches, boil the bones and some veggies for a gallon of soup.

I have a $20 budget next week. On my list: bread, bananas, eggs, salad, and almond milk. Think I can make it in the budget? I've got a stocked pantry, and fridge and freezer, I should be fine next week.
Homemade almond milk is tasty and cheaper and free of carcinogenic carrageenan. Crazy easy if you own a blender. Later I learned carrageenan is used on lab rats to give them autoimmune diseases (for drug testing)... I now stick to real dairy only...or make my own almond milk on occasion.
This is probably one of the best 10.00 a week budget grocery hauls I have watched! (and I watch a lot of them) I absolutely love your choice of Sumac for a seasoning! Brings me back to my family roots! I love the home-made mayo and the choice of cucumber and potatoes for produce! Fantastic video - I really appreciate you and hope to see more budget meals in the future 🌻
Really appreciate these words. Thank you. I know a lot of UA-camrs now do these extreme grocery menu videos. Before my video went viral I was pretty much the only one (almost 3 years ago).
Tbh, the food you made here, people don’t realize that a lot of it is actually really good for you aside from being cheap. Potatoes are nearly a superfood (preferably sweet potatoes if you can afford it) as well as homemade mayonnaise (if made with healthy oils ie avocado oil), eggs are packed with protein. Everything aside from the bread is a good choice on any given day not just for hard times. I lift weights heavily and potatoes and eggs are a huge part of my staple food, admittedly pricey eggs should be organic and clean. Great job with this vid 👍🏻
Amazing job!!! Years ago I knew a young military couple who were so very strapped for money for food,,, when their parents came to visit them from out of state they brought the couple a very large bag of potatoes. Maybe 40 pounds??? and they were grateful and that was their mostly main source of food for awhile.. Another couple from South Dakota the girl made curtains from sheets and dish towels. My point is that you learn different ways of living through other people. These things helped shape my life.... which at the time was a different living life than them....I really enjoy seeing how all people live. It’s a wonderful thing. Thanks please do more of these challenges 👍☮️☮️☮️☮️
Great ideas on a tight budget. Since you made the mayo you could also make deviled eggs yum! Baked potatoes Potato soup Shredded potatoes with a fried egg Egg salad sandwhich I thought you picked a good amount of filling foods for that budget, great Job!
Wow, when I saw what you bought I thought no way. But you have some excellent ideas. I am going to use your home made mayo recipe. For another breakfast choice: french toast made with egg, water, pinch of salt and 2 tsp sugar. If you have oil regular french fried potatoes with salt.
Terrific video. So helpful and eye opening. One thing I’d like to suggest to your viewers is to find a food pantry close to a Costco. They donate so much good quality food. Loads of large pre made dinners. Thank you for your help!
Hello, visiting from Money Mom channel. Great video, love how you made potatoes every day seem different and interesting, and the care you put into all you said.
Changes I might make would be to add onion powder and garlic powder to the spices. One day the potatoes might be a mashed potatoes with cream cheese and the next morning might be a potato pancake. Perhaps, my eggs one day would be crepes with the tiniest amount of flour or cornstarch both pantry staples. I love your choices. Especially for warmer weather!
I would love to see a month challenge! It would allow you to buy a few things in bulk to stretch like a tub of oatmeal, flour, big bag of potatoes etc. It would be interesting to see the planning! Just an idea! Your content is always great.
Potato and egg sandwich is so delicious! Make potatoes like home fries in skillet then add in eggs some salt and pepper out of this world filling and satisfying
I went to Aldi yesterday and was happy with my total as it was less than I usually spend at other grocery stores but even at Aldi things have went up in price. It’s crazy how much groceries are. This is why I love your videos, it gives me ideas for how to make multiple meals from items throughout the week.
Fried, baked, boiled, mashed and potato pancakes. Scrambled, easy over, mixed in fried potatoes, egg salad. It can be done, especially if you have items you can use from the pantry.
Another wonderful budget friendly video that is great as always. Loved all your ideas. Some more ideas: Mashed potatoes with cream cheese, Baked potato with scrambled egg, Pureed cucumber mixed with cream cheese for sandwich spread, Fried banana with spices, French toast with banana. 😇💗
Would definitely also buy at least 2 onions. With the potatoes, I'd make potato pancakes, great with canned applesauce on the side. Would also roast the potatoes like your hash browns, but with diced or sliced onions and a good shake of garlic powder. I like the recipes you show also!
For breakfast I would make banana French toast using vanilla/ cinnamon and top with a chocolate/ banana(cocoa from pantry)ice cream or just dust with icing sugar (pantry). For lunch thinly sliced cucumber with cream cheese sandwich and potato skin soup(smoky paprika, chives/dried onion/ spices, corn starch, stock cube or liquid smoke-pantry) or perhaps make banana peel bacon sandwiches(recipes online). For dinner: a potato casserole with cream cheese & pantry-chives, minced onion, paprika served with eggs-fried/poached/ scrambled. For snacks or sides I would pickle 1/3 cucumber(vinegar from pantry) & pickled eggs (bay leaf, garlic, spices-pantry. I love watching these challenges: good job
I would've for some type if soup base. 1 bread,1dozen eggs ,cream cheese, 1- lbs lentils,1- lbs carrots,1 head of cabbage, bananas, 3- lbs onions, and a can of tomato paste. I would use half the lentils for soup and the other half for lentil burgers. Make eggs noodles and use half the tomato paste for spaghetti sauce and small piece of cream cheese, made veggie egg roll wraps, lentil and veggie tacos, biscuit and egg sandwiches, veggie potato hash brown, lentil soup 2 tbs. Tomato paste and one shredded carrot& onion , veggie& cream cheese and raviolis, French toast, and cream cheese stuffed French toast. I would use flour out of my pantry for all wraps and pastas.
Good Job! You could grate and dry the potatoes, add a bit of oil and flour, salt and pepper and press them in the bottom and up the sides of muffin tins to make egg cups. They could be filled with eggs that you bake/poach OR you could mix the eggs with dried herbs and pour them in like a fritatta.
Think outside the box and use a can of potatoes and a can of milk . That way you would have more money for veggies. You can make potato soup with half of each can .
Wow! That was rough budget to work with nowadays but you nailed it! One of my favorite meals is potatoes and eggs. I slice the potatoes thin and fry them up in oil and then add whisked eggs, so I def would have done that. Egg salad with fries would be a great option and even French toast with the honey!
Breakfast number two was a main staple since the time I can remember and I am now giving it tomy grand children cream cheese and eggs we choose to do it scrambled and then melted in it makes the most creamy and delicious eggs
I would have bought 2 loaves of bread, and I really love egg salad sandwiches ,,,so I would have made egg salad sandwiches with French fries every night.Or a baked potatoe with one boiled egg & a bit of cream cheese mashed up in it for the butter. Also cucumber & cream cheese sandwiches. That cream cheese toast looked fantastic! Great job!
Love the video, you did great! I would add a little simple foraging too for extra greens, color, nutrition and variety. Easily recognizable plants such as dandelions and wild violets. A simple dandelion pesto can turn a bland budget meal into something delicious! Curry spice goes great with potatoes too for more variety and is a really versatile pantry staple. Keep up the good work and thank you for the sumac tip!
Hi. Did you not cook your potatoes for your potato salad? You can boil them until they are still crisp so they don't get mushy, let them cool, then proceed. This way you're not eating raw potatoes. I grew up in a family that cooked everything from scratch and grew and canned their own veggies, so I learned a lot about cooking. Hope this helps. ❤
Great video! People in Maine are having a really hard time right now because it's cold in the electricity bills have gone so high some people are paying $600 a month for electricity and their income is $1,100 a month! It is always better for people to be able to eat than not eat. When people are put into those hard places they have to make hard decisions! Your video gave a lot of fantastic ideas for people. My grocery prices have gone insane. A loaf of store brand wheat bread is $2.78 here! And we have not been able to purchase cream cheese since Christmas time. I picked up some groceries yesterday and watching sales and using digital coupons it still came to $100 and there's hardly anything there. Keep making these videos it's very important for people.
Wow, that's awful. What is causing the electricity to jump up? I know the Canadian protest had some disturbance up north, but it couldn't be that I don't think? Thanks for your encouragement and best wishes!
@@TheQuaintHousewife I think it's mostly political. Our big power company was putting in a new power line that they said we desperately needed through our maine woods. The maine people voted it down in the last election. Right after that they started fighting for the right to do the power line in court and everybody's rates when up 60%. They say it's because of the cost of natural gas to run the power plants but they run our power plants off of wood here so it doesn't add up. Our temperatures have been like negative 20 this winter! A lot of people are heating their homes on the heat pumps that run off of electricity. So between the increase in electricity rates and the need to keep their homes warm, they are in terrible trouble. The elderly and the working poor are having it the worst.
eggs and bread are always a go to for struggle times. i have a sweet tooth so i love making french toast. for one person i just use one egg for breakfast and it makes two slices of french toast. and bread can be used in so many ways. with butter and honey or jam or to make a sandwich with whatever protein and veggies you have like cream cheese and cucumbers or cheese and ham and tomatoes
Thanks for making this video. I came here from another of your $10/week challenge videos since prices are so much higher now. I can attest to the value of eggs; when I lived closer to a Super Walmart, I would always buy the 50 pack of eggs, less than $4 back then.
The potatoes were a staple during the depression. I may have swapped one of the eggs for canned evap milk, added to a staple like flour and fat (bacon grease) to make gravy. I grew up with fried potatoes, gravy, cornbread and pinto beans being a staple meal during rough times.
Wow. This $10.00 challenge was an eye opener. I knew prices were going up but keeping it at $10.00 was surprising. I'm afraid I would have had to go with Ramen noodles.
One egg a day average is ok according to a dietician I knew years ago. If we're eating a dozen in a week that's ok but anyone with high cholesterol would need to be careful. If anyone's worried about getting high cholesterol, it takes a habit of eating too many eggs for weeks or months. I also feel that if you don't have much to eat, eat the eggs and don't worry about it! They do have a lot of nutritive value.
I could do this but only if fresh onions, peppers and garlic is included in these recipes. One of my favorite meals growing up was fried potatoes and onions with scrambled eggs in it.
I'm finding that sautéed green cabbage, highly seasoned, is the least expensive vege in my area now. If I can I add onion, celery and bell pepper, garlic, black pepper, sometimes worchestershire or soy sauce. Cabbage goes pretty far.
Great ideas! I would make potato and egg omelet everyday. Hard boiled egg on the side is a great idea for protein. Instead of cucumber, bread and cream cheese I would try to get carrots, rice and chicken broth. I'd make egg drop soup (using half chicken broth/half water and 2 eggs) with rice on the side. I'd make soup with the other half of chicken broth, water, potatoes, and carrots.
Sounds good Christina. Yrs. ago when I made scrambled eggs for the family, I would add a can of hominy. It stretches it & gives a lovely texture and flavor.
Thanks to watching you now I will be able to finally learn how to do an omelet. 😁 Gave me a few ideas for breakfast. Husband lost his job two weeks ago so I'm pinching as many pennies as I can and meal portioning.
That toast breakfast sounds really nice! I always think of cream cheese being savory but I know it goes into sweet cheesecake too! Well done on ten dollars! Would be very hard to do but it's good to have some ideas! I think the dinner potato will be good even not on a budget! X
Update: It's crazy how much food prices have increased just in a couple of weeks. 5.99 for the taters in our Aldi today... This must be terrifying for folks on an extreme budget.
I do this all the time-for two of us. YOu should get one or two cans of meat,(chicken, may be salmon-I get two meals out of these),tuna, and just one dozen eggs.(2.45,$ 2.95,69 cents,1.60) ALso,cr mushroom soup and cr of chicken-(59 cents each),if you have pasta, you can do a whole lot-also I would buy a pack of cheese slices-(1.59)there are SO many ways to use it. ANd one loaf of bread.(89 cents)or buy soft taco shells instead-use as bread. This comes out to over $12 but you can remove one or two items-maybe the salmon and the cheese. (meal ideas-chicken tetrazinni, tuna casserole, omelet, salmon loaf, salmon patties, mac and cheese w. tuna, hard boiled egg slices;add any veg.or greens. Jello w fruit is a cheap dessert-one box jello is 39cents-i put bananas or fruit cocktail in it. Whipping cream cheese into it makes it even better. Ideas! (beef stew is another meat and meal option-$1.69)
I started to keep larger amounts of ingredients in pantry like dehydrated garlic, onion, green pepper, mushroom and then frozen lemon slices, grated ginger cubes and celery. The celery never seems to rehydrate very good so I'm freezing it. I try not to run out of these things. I thought your meals were good enough to enjoy eating. You even got some fruit in their!
Eggs in a basket are delicious for breakfast. Also fermented sauerkraut is made with only salt (must be sea salt) and cabbage, it is highly nutrient dense when prepared that way, and one of the best homemade probiotic foods
I would have made potato soup for the lunches, but I have dehydrated onions and garlic granules in my "pantry" plus instant soy milk so I can have a creamy potato soup.
Sadly for those economizing Aldi and TJ has so many fresh foods prepacked in plastic. No single apples or oranges. I strongly encourage you to look at local coops to buy loose fruit and veg. Yes, you can buy 1 carrot! It may seem counterintuitive to go to what may be a healthfood store for groceries, but if shopping for health, variety and for one or two it can be your best option. You can buy "pantry" dry goods in bulk so buy only what you will use and not have so much money tied up in bigger quantities sitting on your shelf.
I spent 23 dollars the other day at Walmart and got 3 bags full of food. Grocery shopping can still be done cheaply but you will have to cut out many items that are otherwise very nutritious.
This was an awesome budget challenge and has inspired me to check out the new Aldi’s store in my area. I think that by replacing one dozen eggs with a head of cabbage (or some spinach) and an onion would have been a great way to add more flavor and nutrition. I would have added cream cheese and cucumber sandwiches for breakfast or lunch. Baked potatoes with some cream cheese, chives, parsley and perhaps a but of cubed cucumber would have been delicious. Next, a soup with potatoes, spices, cream cheese, and a bit of onion would have been a nice addition. I agree that potatoes and eggs are a fantastic way to bulk up a budget. Great video.
Egg salad sandwich would have been a possibility too and could also do French toast as a breakfast, lunch or dinner option 😀 I loved the cream cheese, honey and cinnamon option, I'm going to give it a try! I loved seeing all the meal ideas you did. So many options for eggs and potatoes to make it feel like you aren't eating the same thing over and over. Here in Ontario, Canada it would run us about $20 for what you bought. Groceries are really expensive unless we can find a sale at a store nearby.
Very creative! I am keto and gluten free and I don’t eat breakfast (intermittent fasting) and only eat 2 meals a day no snacks! My biggest spend is drinks. Luckily I have fresh eggs from our chickens. So I gonna modify this!
This was a unique video....I never could've thought you would be able to pull off $10 for the week. This inflation has caused groceries to be ridiculous.
Kind of makes me think of the Walking Dead series and how tough it was on the characters thus doing whatever was necessary to find a meal and even water for the day. Perhaps a future video can show how to remove and process seeds from vegetables to start a garden.
@@TheQuaintHousewife Actually, if it was $40 for a month then $12 for 25lb of rice and Maruchan Beef Ramen Noodle Soup 24 Count / 3 oz for $5.79 with the remainder going on dried beans and peas, and economy cereal and oatmeal. I first thought of these types of scenarios back when people were concerned about computers not being able to flip from 1999 to 2000. Some did very well selling dried food items playing into people's fears. I won't even comment on this covid thing.
I second this idea. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. Tomatoes, winter squash, dried beans and peas come to mind. And seeds from the spice aisle. Just make sure the greens are edible before growing.

Extremely excellent ideas! Thanks for sharing!
Great job. One idea, if you had a really good pantry, you could be growing sprouts for a little more fresh food. I keep sprouting seeds on hand.
QH, YOU are completely BRILLIANT !
I could never have figured this. THANK YOU for teaching us 💜💜💜💜
YW XOXO
Think outside the box and use a can of potatoes and a can of milk . That way you would have more money for veggies. You can make potato soup with half of each can .
If I buy milk, which other item on the trip would I be replacing?
Girl that toast! You have me running to my kitchen to make it now, yes at dinner time.
LOL sweet!
Family of 8, and Aldi is my absolute favorite. Whatever fruit or veg is on sale, I get $10 and we eat it all week.
I love this idea and will start doing it for my family! Thank you for the wonderful suggestion!
I love these kinds of challenges, and you did great working with what you had. I can't believe how the prices are going up the way they are.
Well done! Best healthy $10 purchase I have seen. Potatoes are such a good buy and you control the salt and spices.
Thanks HP!
Great menu! Last week I did whipped ricotta with warm honey and pepper with toast. Cream cheese would be a great sub for the ricotta.
Been looking forward to this all day!
Thank you for the support!
Mmm, love dandelion!! Have you tried fiddleheads from ferns?
@@coolbeans-plantbased707 I haven't seen any of those around here, but I will keep my eye open for them. What kind of flavor profile do they have?
Yes, they were cooked. I don't eat raw potatoes.
Really a terrible bind and unfair to people. I would think the Federal gov't would step in at that point. XOXO
eggs and bread are always a go to for struggle times. i have a sweet tooth so i love making french toast. for one person i just use one egg for breakfast and it makes two slices of french toast. and bread can be used in so many ways. with butter and honey or jam or to make a sandwich with whatever protein and veggies you have like cream cheese and cucumbers or cheese and ham and tomatoes
Fresh toast is delicious Rosy. I think eggs and bread are great low budget staples, especially for busy people on the run. Thx 💚
Thanks for making this video. I came here from another of your $10/week challenge videos since prices are so much higher now. I can attest to the value of eggs; when I lived closer to a Super Walmart, I would always buy the 50 pack of eggs, less than $4 back then.
Oh I loved the bulk pack of eggs. Haven't purchased it in a long time. Glad you enjoy the videos.
Thank you for sharing! Cream cheese in an omelette is a great idea, I never thought of that!
I can’t contribute cash but always watch all of the commercials. Hopefully that helps in some way.
Yes, no worries. It does help!
@branbrina that’s a good reminder to all of us to watch the commercials…
Only helps UA-cam
The potatoes were a staple during the depression. I may have swapped one of the eggs for canned evap milk, added to a staple like flour and fat (bacon grease) to make gravy. I grew up with fried potatoes, gravy, cornbread and pinto beans being a staple meal during rough times.
Great job. Fir dinner , with the potatoes you could also serve a poached egg on a piece of toast.
Great job! I’m so impressed by how well you do with these challenges!
Wow. This $10.00 challenge was an eye opener. I knew prices were going up but keeping it at $10.00 was surprising. I'm afraid I would have had to go with Ramen noodles.
I always love seeing your creative meal ideas! Two dozen eggs in a week is only about 3 eggs per day, which seems like a pretty normal amount.
Eggs are so nutritious. Much better choice than what most people eat!
Korean cabbage pancakes are awesome.
and Japanese pizza.
Cabbage and noodles together. Yum.
fried cabbage with onion powder, salt/pepper...so yummy! Have a bit of bacon grease from previous weeks adds great flavor!
I like ginger, red pepper flakes, and soy sauce in my sauteed cabbage
I still remember when you made your bean and mustard toast I loved that! You always have the best ideas
Thanks Julia. I think I want that now! XOXO
Potato soup with the cream cheese… add water and chicken bouillon from the pantry or other seasonings for the broth. I love potato soup!
Soft scrambled eggs…add cream cheese at the end. You won’t regret it…comfort food HEAVEN .
Awesome ideas!! Love these videos!!
Such creativity! Just had scrambled eggs, hash browns and toast for dinner. With eggs, you always have a meal. I eat alot of egg salad.
My 9-year-old son just discovered egg salad sandwiches. He calls it gourmet food. 😁
@@mariaolker it is, on a croissant with bacon bits and avocado chunks, lol!
Wow, that was awesome! Thank you so much for all the wonderful ideas!!
So sorry to hear about this. My best to you and hubby. Glad you like my videos. XOXO
@@TheQuaintHousewife Thank you. You're welcome.💜💜
Good tips for cheap budget.
You did a great job! The toast, the omelette, the potato salad! THanks for doing this, it's super helpful!
Another awesome challenge as always Quaint, thanks for sharing!
Thanks Mum!
That's it, my new year's resolution is to make the perfect omelette! You have inspired me.
Lovely ideas. i would save some of the potatoes for breakfast just to give it a little different morning thing lol. But Great ideas
Yes, would be comforting with breakfast. Thanks Amber!
I would agree. Hopefully the potatoes are many pounds!
@@TheQuaintHousewife Nope, just a small bag. I was shocked!
Wow really frugal meals, great job! 👍
My local supermarket sells loose, bulk fruits and vegetables. I prefer shopping this way to buying prepackaged.
I spent 23 dollars the other day at Walmart and got 3 bags full of food. Grocery shopping can still be done cheaply but you will have to cut out many items that are otherwise very nutritious.
Kudos to you for this challenge!! Rough going!
I didn’t know this was even possible. Very impressive!
Thanks Nick!
Thanks Lavender!
Ooo ! Cabbage and potatoes...Yum!
Egg salad sandwich would have been a possibility too and could also do French toast as a breakfast, lunch or dinner option 😀 I loved
the cream cheese, honey and cinnamon option, I'm going to give it a try! I loved seeing all the meal ideas you did. So many options for eggs and potatoes to make it feel like you aren't eating the same thing over and over. Here in Ontario, Canada it would run us about $20 for what you bought. Groceries are really expensive unless we can find a sale at a store nearby.
You are so wise!! I have been watching you for about a year now ....awesome videos!!💖
Thanks Tammy!
Potatoes are so versatile, appropriate for every meal throughout the day.
Kind of makes me think of the Walking Dead series and how tough it was on the characters thus doing whatever was necessary to find a meal and even water for the day. Perhaps a future video can show how to remove and process seeds from vegetables to start a garden.
O no, sounds scary 😮
@@TheQuaintHousewife Actually, if it was $40 for a month then $12 for 25lb of rice and Maruchan Beef Ramen Noodle Soup 24 Count / 3 oz for
$5.79 with the remainder going on dried beans and peas, and economy cereal and oatmeal.
Maybe cream cheese/cucumber sandwich? Or some salsa(pantry) on the egg for some spice! Your creativity with food is amazing!
Get whole grain bread two for $499 I know expensive but v good for u n v filling eat peanut butter sandwiches use generic tomato soup instead of ragu.
Cucumbers with cream cheese on bread for a sandwich is really good. If you could have, get the spreadable cream cheese.
cream cheese could be whipped to make it more spreadable
