      Thank you Gary. Appreciate that I try to be fair but it is almost impossible to find a fault in this chuck. At the price point

    good review Brian i have been using that chuck for over 10 years and the only thing i can find wrong with it is the chuck key wears out the inside of the inserts on the pinions and i have replaced all of them on my two chucks so i now use a standed alen key without the ball on the end it is far better than most of the chucks i have used over the years of turning

      Ian I will bear that in mind and keep an eye on that. I will feed that back to Sorby as well thanks for watching and taking the time to let me know your thoughts

    Nice review Brian, I really liked my Patriot chuck but sold it with the lathe and jumped to Axminster with the new lathe.

      Thanks Pete it appears to be a good Chuck. I can see the attraction of the Axminster chucking system as well 👍

    Thank for the review Brian. I have 2 of these Patriot chucks and love them. Due to the version of the chucks, I have to use - EXN34 Chuck Exerts to mount them on my - M33 x 3.5mm spindle. Although the chucks have locking grub screws to lock them onto the Exerts, the Exerts don’t have grubs crews to lock onto the lathe spindle and therefore I don’t attempt reverse turning or sanding and occasionally the chuck unwinds when a heavy piece is being turned and the lathe is decelerating a bit fast. OK, the advice is to drill and tap a suitable hole in the Exert, but these now cost £50+, so I wouldn’t want to mess one up! Why don’t Sorby do the decent thing and put a grub screw in them?

    • @Stable_Studio
      @Stable_Studio  Рік тому

      I had not Considered the exerts on the larger chucks, I can ask the question for you Doug and see if there is something y they can do, I take it you have spoken to them yourself

      i drilled and tapped a hole in my incerts for a grub screw to lock it onto the spindle

      @@Stable_Studio Thanks Brian. I never got round to asking or point out to Sorby the problem. As Ian says below, the keen and capable amongst us do it themselves. As Sorby have provided you with a Patriot chuck for review they will want your feedback, so if you don't mind, please add my comments/query to what you say.

    Nice review Brian. I have an old Patriot chuck I bought on eBay and it is a really good chuck.
    Does this mean no SK114 for you Brian?
    Take care mate and I hope you and your good lady have a great Christmas and a Very Happy New year.
    Cheers, Huw

      I would be happy to do a review on an SK114 however I still feel they are a bit to expensive for what they are. I have an open mind if they would like to send me one to review I will do an unbiased review 👍

    Nice Chuck But is it Stainless Steel like Axminsters Because the back is only aluminium ??🤔🤔

    • @Stable_Studio
      @Stable_Studio  Рік тому

      No it is Not it is steel, the aluminium back I sure is an option to save weight. To be fair it is actually only a cover to keep the shavings out or the Mechanism.
