  • This video will show you how to mount a canvas on a wood panel. The process is simple and requires only a few supplies you probably already have around the house. Once you've watched this video, you'll be able to mount your own canvas in no time!
    Materials;
    Digital or cotton primed canvas
    Birch panel
    Chip brush
    Golden Soft Gel or Mod Podge
    Roller or large spoon
    Utility or X_Acto knife

    I enjoyed the video. I am thinking of something else: Buying framed prints with nice frames, printing my own work on unframed canvas, cutting the canvas to size and gluing it to the glass. The advantage is that I won't need a hardboard -- the glass is already the right size -- but I am not sure that:
    1) I would be able to unroll the canvas print, which comes rolled in a tube, to lie flat and
    2) Whether anything, like that Mod Podge, would stick to both glass and canvas.
    What do you think?

      Thank you Alexander,
      I have not tried it; my only concern is whether it will be cost effective and whether it will cause glue adhesion problems in the long run.
      1.Spray mist the back of the painting lightly with water. Then, place the painting face down on a flat surface and cover it with a smooth cotton towel. Allow 1-2 days for drying after weighting with books. Make sure not to overspray with water.
      2. To improve adhesion, I recommend lightly sanding the glass (220 grit), preferably under water to avoid dust.

    Do you think it’s okay to glue UNPRIMED canvas to hardboard and THEN prime the canvas afterwards?

      I always use primed canvas, but I think it will be ok to use as you described. Thanks Susan!

    Great tutorial. Going to try it for dips. What kind of wood is it? Get from home diy box store? Also, is Spot On silicone better than non Spot On 100% silicon?

      Thanks for your support! The wood panels are from Michaels, I think are birch wood. Regarding Spot On silicone, I’m getting better results than using spray silicone or dimethicone.

      Hi Esther, It is Golden Soft Gel Medium and is an excellent glue for collage or mount paper or canvas. Also can be mixed with heavy body paint to create texture. You can use almost any type of glue, preferably archival and with gel or paste consistency. Avoid liquid glue.

      @@SiegfriedArt how is the gel.medium holding up? I have both gel and liquid medium for this purpose(mounting linen and canvas to MDF and birch) I hear u say avoid liquid? Couldn't I thicken with something to make it work, hate to waste a bottle. I have marble dust, and all types of oil and acrylic paints

    Where did you purchase the birch wood panels and do they come in various sizes?

      I bought it at Michaels/NYC. Yes, they come in different sizes. You can check on Michaels online.

    Why not paint on wood board directly?

    • @lubomirs108
      @lubomirs108 3 роки тому +1

      Of course you can, but the board itself doesn't have that nice texture of a canvas..

      Plywood boards are known for "checking" which are small cracks developing along the grain. Painting on solid wood is highly archival but, even with proper sealing methods, painting on plywood will not last particularly long.
