    Big respect for all the independent drivers who ever were and still are in the sport today, wish there was something better for them on the financial-side because the underdogs succeeding is always amazing to see.

      Capitalism rewards greed. It is a flawed system, but it's all we have. As past bosses have asked me, 'come to the table with a solution alternative to the issue which is brought up' ...

      But at least I made an effort for the sport for which I have a passion.

      If we could go back to having cars being metal and get 1 big sponsor for a whole year on each on each car (for the most part) not this every other race different sponsor. hire drivers based on skill not the sponsor money they bring the sport would instantly get better. Quit doing a copy paste plastic car that can’t be messed with get rid of the pay drivers and hire based on skill. That would get rid of most of the truck problem for sure and that would only trickle up. So it would ween out the deegans cindric dillions and all those other ones the sport would be awesome. But unfortunately we have a bunch of drivers who pay for a seat with cars that look the same with no real distinction between teams it’s bad and hopefully this is the worst before it gets better part and nascar starts to change.

    Wow that was a cool chat with Carl. I absolutely STILL TO THIS DAY hate nascar for trying to run him out of the sport over a worn out motor saying he was running one that was measuring over the allowed 358 cid (at the time) but it was just simply worn out. It hadn't been bored to that size on purpose. Ridiculous. I ALWAYS pull for the smaller/underdog teams. Sadly they just don't have the $$ to compete anywhere near the mid pavk or front running teams

    The Charter system is broken. Just Imagine Nascar telling Alan Kulwicki in 1991 that he would have to 20 million on a charter to race fulltime in 1992? No you can't. The independents have always been a backbone of NASCAR and have always made for the best underdog moments

    • @antoniestrada1972
      @antoniestrada1972 6 місяців тому +1

      You can still race a full season You're just going to get less purse money Yeah the independents are unique to nascar but how many independent backmarkers have we seen just getting the way or start and park. This independent guys can barely be a j.d McDuffie type

    • @chrisbarrettFilmstudio
      @chrisbarrettFilmstudio 6 місяців тому +2

      @@antoniestrada1972 I mean now they just get in the way because everything is identical. But back in the day and even up right before the charter system those start and park teams would buy most of their equipment from better teams. Like Dave Marcus got a lot of help from the pettys and Dale Earnhardt just because they were all friends and they wanted to help the guy out. Hell I heard a story that Dave told about how just for testing the car for Dale he would get the tires that he tested on and if Dale got the pole and received a free pair those would be given too. But now since every team is running the same tech, same equipment with some minor variations it doesn’t really matter who you get it from.

    I went to Sonoma in '94, and recall Carl was in the then South West Tour (?) supporting the Cup event! Good to see how he picks events where he has the highest likelihood of recovering his expenses from.
    A dedicated racer from way back!
    Congrats to Carl, and BJ, and wish these 'backbone of the sport' racers
    continued success!!
    Dale Sr won the Cup event I attended after he passed Mark Martin in the final laps in a sharp inside corner where he said he had 'smelled oil' on the track!
    My buddy and I were elated about his win, as it was, as they say, very dramatic!!

    I think JRM should try going this route, before they invest in $40+ million in a charter. Especially since it is unknown what Chevrolet will have to race in a year or two.

    • @roberthevern6169

    Theoretically having all the same cars and tyres, should mean that an independent team should be able to be competitive if they can gain sponsorship. There should be no charters, but a simple limit of cars on the track after qualifying. But the three big teams have Nascar by the balls. They run it now. And they will do anything to stop an up and coming team from being competitive. They try to steal their mechanics, drivers and crew chiefs. They try to restrict the supply of spares because they own the production of them. Its a cabal of mafia like groups that call the shots. And it breeds processions and dodgy team tactics on the track. And if left, it will kill the sport.
