Hello Fishkeepers! Grab a snack, sit back, and relax through this video, or better yet, do some fish tank maintenance along with me!
Enjoy 😊
Love you chirs I left the hobby for a little bit but I’m back like hemorrhoids💀
We need more videos like this man to help us survive the week
Ps about the fire situation
1:23 i know it realy sucks your parents just keep being negative and making you un motivated to do anything it sucks getting my first 10 gal was some bad times i had to ask my parents about it everyday for months and getting yelled at i know we were struggling with money at the moment but i realy wanted a nice tank i was starting to quit but i hope other people aren't having much troubles with their journey : ) also chirs hope your doing ok and love these type of videos
we love your hard work.
As a tip for anyone who is poor or just doesn't want to spend a lot of money... terracotta pots can be used to make AMAZING scapes in an aquarium... giving it like a lost to a flood aesthetic... and they absolutely cost nothing!... you can break some, put them on the side etc etc etc... and since terracotta is a super porous material it's actually also great for the bacteria in your tank! Also fish and amphibians love them... i have a bunch of terracotta plants in my 50 gal (got it off craigslist for literally 0 just had to pick it up) Axolotl tank and he absolutely loves them (and even leaves the plants alone since he has other hiding spots)
honestly in my experience making a terracotta pot aquascape is much more expensive than a jungle style aquarium
@@otoccinclus yes me too,, its so cool to break pots but a jungle just hits different..
@@otoccinclus i don't know what terracotta pots cost in your area... but at hardware stores here it's like $1-3 depending on the size... and the $3 ones i can barely fit in a 50 gal long tank
I’ve seen a lot of people do amazing things with concrete, clay, and even foam, but I wonder how safe the foam is. They cut it and shape it to look like rocks and make a grotto or general formation like a waterfall and cave. It’s really impressive what people can do with cheap and everyday items. Going to the closest stream and taking local moss, rocks, and wood, and plants.
@@NicoleMarie. the foam in general is completely safe (the one for ponds etc) the chemicals do not leak into the water so unless a fish was to eat it (fish aren't thaaaattt t stupid) it's absolutely 100% safe and also a pretty affordable option to scape i only ever used it in a terrarium because it's also really good for insulting heat but should work great in an aquarium aswell
CHRIS YOU ARE THE BEST! KEEP IT UP!! WE ARE WITH YOU!!!
tysm for the support through this horrible time in my life 😭🙏
I love this kind-a-vlog style for longer videos. please keep them going, Chris 🙇
thanks! will do :)
My mental health apparently decided it has better things to do and abandoned me, but at least I can still stare into my tanks for hours and find peace... I swear this hobby is as addicting as it is therapeutic.
indeed!
💓💓💓
I was smiling or laughing through the whole thing. Thank you Chris!
hehe glad u enjoyed and had a good time!
Recently made an ecosphere for my mom with Java moss, duck weed, two marble shrimp, and two snails. A week and it’s doing well! Hope it holds up.
awesome hope she enjoys it!
Yes, it was calming AND I did laugh a little bit! Thank you very much for this poetic rendition of our beloved hobby! 🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿
I was having a pretty terrible morning, and I needed this video so much!
Thank you so much for being such a positive voice in the hobby! I love hearing your fish-keeping anecdotes, and the story about paying for rocks is painfully relatable!
I know it can be rough when life throws you a curveball, but it's admirable how you just keep on keeping on despite how stressful everything must be rn.
your videos rock and are definitely a highlight to my Mondays!
thank you for all the wonderful work you do and for taking such good care of all of your critters!
💓💓💓
Thanks for leaving such a lovely comment!
Cant wait to get my own tank and start my fish keeping journey finallyyy
Me to
you got this. have fun!
We love you Chris 🌱🐠
I love you friend!
I hear that delayed gratification. My first planted tank was done in mid July. I waited weeks for it to cycle and mature and when I decided it was time to stock it I wasn't in love with my local store offerings. So I waited and saw an ad for a local expo in October. So now I'm waiting until then to stock it. But in the meantime the plants have been growing in real nice.
I tried to put some amano in to eat the algae that grew but they decided to die right away. So my snails are in there instead.
can relate fo sho!
My son will be excited to see this when schools over. He's been binge watching to "become a better fishkeeper like Chris" you have a 9 year old fan
this makes my heart full so thank you for telling me
I can totally relate to rock hounding. I have a really large piece of sandstone that I picked up on a trail in the mountains. It completely exhausted me getting it back to the car, and I questioned my sanity along the way. I’ve thought about breaking it up, but I probably never will. Someday, I’ll have a tank big enough for it; it’s a bit oversized even for my 60-gallon.
hahaha you're strong, I was exhausted just from hiking back up the trail after finding a stash of cool pebbles on the beach
More relatable video has never been created. This was such a good video.
ahah thanks!
9:24 taking pictures of growing anubias
I do that with java ferns 😂❤
I know what it feels like when the plant produces new leaf after a long time ❤😊
haha xD exactly!
You'll be happy to know as someone who has beat PSTD my therapist suggested keeping fish. I still do, of course. But to make a long story short, I went blind in my left eye, and I decided that I wouldn't be looking at a screen when my other eye quit or when I died. Neither is happened and I think it's because I feel so happy observing my fish and recognizing their little personalities.
💓💓💓
that's great to hear, I had a feeling it'd be helpful!
oh my god that makes me feel so much better! The thought process I had was "once I master keeping cherry shrimp alive and breeding Ill move onto fish" how are fish more easy to look after then some easy basic crustaceans
so true
Thank you for this, I really needed this talk on life. I keep some fish, not to your level but I'm working on it and you are always an inspiration to me in many ways. You're good people. I wish I'd found you sooner.
Sincerely, Logan
I’m just impressed that the fluval stratum was tucked away hidden under the bed 😂 it deserves a locked safe almost
Just recently moved across the United States and was hoping to keep my 20 or so cherry shrimp alive during the travel.
Sad to say none of them made it. However nothing last forever and at least my plants survived.
Will eventually start again, hopefully starting a shrimp farm.
yes, hoping for a good restart for you, definitely do it! you got this
Thank you for the reminder of patience. I might not keep fish myself, but I’m having trouble trying to help the sick orchid that I have. I’m just starting to get frustrated with it. This reminds me that things take time.😊😊😊😊
oh yes! especially plants like orchids I bet
@@FishForThought you ever thought about putting an phalaenopsis orchid on top of any above water wood scape
just woke up fed my betta and sat down and watched this.
Love it, straight vibes!
That 'Impact' scape still lives on my mind rent-free. Imagine it on a bigger scale.
This video was so wholesome, great video as always! I couldn’t agree more with your sentiment 💗
I'm so glad Tamago is doing good!
This is unfortunately, past content.
If you haven't heard, I did a quick update on Tamago, it was a sad story and sad end :( She jumped during the night into a pothos planter I put into the tank. There was water in the planter, but I guess she spent too long trapped in such a little confined area that it was too much stress for her. Found her passed away in there when I woke up. It was the worst.
@FishForThought oh no! My condolences. My frog that I had for 3 years passed a few weeks ago followed by an oto that lost to a columnaris infection. We honor their memories in our hearts by continuing to care for the other pets we have who were their tank neighbors. Circle of life it may be, but it will always hurt just a bit.
Such a peaceful video. I'm glad you are able to rebuild your tanks 💗
tysm! these are past scapes but I have new scapes coming up too :)
@@FishForThought can't wait to see them!
in my experience, java fern struggles in tanks with low potassium, especially if its in a tank with plants that absorb nutrients faster than it! i usually just add a potassium supplement to the tank to help with that
bro I'ma dose a whole banana in my tank next time
I’ve seen a lot of channels who make tanks, but they do it with things they find locally. Super impressive how they build things. I would love to decorate some tanks, but I don’t know anyone who is in to fish keeping anymore. My ex had the hugest goldfish I had ever seen, but unfortunately when we moved they didn’t make the long trip.
Pfp hella dope
We need more of these type of videos. Keep up the good work buddy.
perhaps more to come! Thanks so much :)
Hear, hear to literally everything you just said! Also, a tip for the poor folk who hate handing money over to the hobby: Just don't keep track of any of it! You shall remain poor, but it shall not hurt as much...😂
very true.
this episode made me go oh, that's why it's called fish for thought
hahaha!
For grit / sand / small gravel i always just buy from local gravel supply. Its like 1$ a bucket or something i dont remember he stopped charging me
the true pro tip!
This is legit what I needed today ❤ thank you!
am very chilled now, tanks mate!
ayy glad to hear it i did my job
Dude wtf you had me at special people 0:20 😅😢 but the stick is special.....
11:59 BAHAHAAHA NO WAY BRO JUST SAID THAT
hehe I don't have a filter for real
That was an amazing video! What style and insight of what you're doing. I really like seeing you set up a tank. It looks so easy. If I tried, all my plants would be floating or my rocks always falling over. Makes want to try just doing a tank but no fish as I would be fearful, they would be all gone the next day.
my plants do float all the time in a new tank too! perhaps I should have filmed that part, my bad :(
@@FishForThought You're an awesome teacher and fish keeper.
If you think delayed gratification is awesome for freshwater, then you should definitely set up a reef tank with stony corals. Your tank won't even start filling in until after the one year mark, especially if you do a traditional cycle without fish and coral.
reef tanks are delayed gratification and immediate bankruptcy for me! lol
@FishForThought They don't have to be super expensive if you aren't obsessed with high tech gear and corals with fancy names
I love the FTR but this was soothing and low key really inspiring. Maybe I'll get motivated to raise some brine shrimp soon.
aw thanks man!
The Maple story soundtrack is so nostalgic
True though. Places market things you can find free In the yard or outdoors.
fish keepers are such a green flag 💚💚💚 i love everyone who genuinely takes the time to understand and learn and grow and nurture. So sexy
ayyy lets gooo
my beige flag is the multiple tank syndrome
Stick gang
for life
Java ferns babies grow off the back!???😅 may have thought some java most was taking over and may have ripped those little suckers off. The fern died slowly after that….my bad😂
Best possible life ever
the journey of life!
I've honestly never had a problem with neon tetras for me they are really hardy fish and also the first time I got shrimp they we're thriving and java fern is easy just add fertilizer or change your lights. 😁
I guess it's just the strains I always get in my area!
This was hilarious! keep it up!
My java fern babies just break off on their own and i let them float on the surface, they have been growing great that way.
An FFT vid on a wednesday. We b blessed.
omg the maplestory music 🥹
As an fish keeper this is realy true
Plant keeping
Do you mean gardening
Love this video so funny
haha thanks!
Whoa FFT on a wednesday!
yeah! I used to post mon wed fri!
Hold up. I thought it was weird that's it's not fish tank review, then I remembered that it's not f ing Monday.
haha yeah!!
My Java fern has babies and some of the first babies I planted have babies in my 75 gallon
much love
thanks!
Oh I loved this video!
I have always needed noise to keep focused on my task instea of the radio now it’s UA-cam and audiobooks
Beautiful vid, excellent music choice
haha thanks, personal favorite BGM of all times
Do a video on woods to use vs not that people would find in different areas for example pecan I have heard is not good for an aquarium etc..
This was great: thank
You
🎉
so glad to hear it!
Where do you find water lettuce without the gray mold on it that keeps eating it….
nice video to wake up to
your fish bites your hand because you feed it from your hand, its like a snake they really recommend feeding them with tongs cause that way they dont associate your hand with the food, keeps them from biting you when you put your hand in the tank, does it hurt when he bites? i seen him tearing up that salmon XD
yes, yes, it rly hurts, there are marks and sometimes I bleed. Crazy strength
Ah yes time for my wednesday motivation session
yey!
i had ptsd at the end i though this was his last video it sounded way to much like so long nerds and thanks for intradusing me to a new type of stone that will rip my wallet apart from the inside out
ohh haha my bad didn't mean to lead u on!
is that like in a you suck kidda way?, no offen though just curious
i agree chris
boosting that algorithm
ty!
Okay Ohko stone boy.
Fishtank Philosophy
haha I wouldn't call it so much as philosophy!
I see those shale slivers & I immediately want to do a Brazilian style...
how would i go about finding/buying those long skinny shard looking rocks? like what exactly would i look up?
❤
hey man, nice sticks don't just grow on trees.
cool vid
🥰
Is this footage of you “rebuilding “
Your aquariums?
awesome
Every Sunday I ride my bike And collect Katapa leaves sometimes I think that the people saw me and think I’m weird
What has this hobby done to you? It's evolved you!!!
where did you get that tank and how many gallons?
it's just under 5 gals i think, I got it a long time ago at a LFS
Have you ever counted how Much it cost to have aquariums iam considering to buy a aquarium does it make a huge difference in you electricity bill I am very curious
Is it monday already
Is it just me or does Java fern look like artificial plants? 😮🤣🤔
No, you're in good company. It does a lot of times look artificial. Sometimes it looks like Astroturf.
Are the goldfish not rehomed? I thought you said they were
They were, this is past footage as I'm dealing with some home emergency relocation right now
@@FishForThought oh yea I heard about the fire I hope you recover soon from the emergency
Java ferns dying? They can do that? I have blackwater setups with pretty strong lighting, lots of bio matter. Very different from your tanks. I have like 4 types of java fern and they are taking over. Tbh the only plant ive ever struggled with was red root floaters, ive got some expensive ahh plants in super low tech tanks and they thrive, but the java ferns are just growing like weeds. My hardscapes are lush af
What bottom dwellers should i buy anyone?
HIII
yessir
Why is hornwort from the devil?
...Dude
Under 1hour gang
There is no other hobby where you can spend hundreds of dollars on sticks and rocks.
I HATE neon tetras for the reason you've mentioned. They just Die. For no reason - just as an F U
hahaha YEAH!!
Nice I’m early one of my favorite UA-camrs too (edit bro only 8 likes in 2 mins bro fell off lmao jk love you chirs
