Synopsis: In February 2003, Richard was discovered to be a murderer after killing three people, including two neighbours, and attempting to kill David's gran Audrey Roberts and neighbour Emily Bishop. Gail and the children evacuated to Audrey's while the police investigated and upon returning they were hounded by press outside the house and David was attacked by a school bully. When Richard returned to the Street a couple of weeks later, he kidnapped David along with Sarah, niece Bethany and mother Gail, who were bound and gagged in the car in the garage where Hillman intended to gas them all and himself in a suicide pact. However, Martin, along with Kevin Webster and Tommy Harris, burst the doors of the garage open to save them, only for Richard to drive off with them in the car and driving it into Weatherfield Canal. David along with his family managed to escape with the help of Martin, Tommy and Kevin who gave pursuit. Richard however, drowned. This event traumatised David and had a lasting effect on him.

Sarah and David actually grew closer after Richard tried to kill them all. But then they got at each others throats again. Especially around 2006/2007. Their relationship now is much better

It happens in all soaps, watch emmerdale and first scenes of most characters, they have a thick accent then it softens

This is my favourite year of Coronation Street, although 2003 was 6 years before I was born.

Crazy to think this was nearly 20 years ago already! Also crazy to think how long the younsters - Sarah and David, have been with us now! They are both now soap veterans at 22 years in the game despite only being in their 30s themselves, while Gail is almost a museum piece at nearly 50 years in the show! 😯 The Platts have had lots of dramatic story lines over the years but this was definitely the most shocking and dramatic and the one that people still remember. That image of them plowing into the dark waters of the canal and their screams of terror are kind of iconic in a dark way. Corrie has definitely lost its edge since then. R.I.P Vera and Jack.
David looks 45 now.

2013 is when the whole family disowned David for giving Nick Brain damage and the same year Todd returned and had a tussle with David for drugging Bethany back in 2007

David has been the same since he was a kid now that is an actor hes been incredible since a child the quick funny one liners the quick sarcasm the way he makes a funny comment and drinks his tea the samw facial expressions fucking amazing 👏🏻
It’s wonderful to see how consistent an actor keeps the persona of his character going over 20 years. Just the little things like his facial expressions or the way he still scratches the back of his neck with the remote when watching telly. Jack P shepherd is one of the best soap actors we have, plus one of the best child actors I ever seen.
David might have gone off the rails and became troubled understandably and this was the start, but his personality never changed and is such a well rounded grey character who is enjoyable to watch.

What happened to Martin ?
The character moved to Liverpool, remarried and had another kid. Apparently the actor left the show as they wanted to turn Martin into a pedophile after Katie Harris died.
