Great to see one of these again. I was fortunate enough to own a red example of the turbo back in the 90s it was an amazing car to drive, so incredibly fast and very, very rare, I remember embarrassing many fast cars from that era , it was outrageous. Your example looks really nice , thanks for letting us see it 👍👍
Thanks a lot, hopefully i will be doing a review on a red one running nearly twice the power, in a couple months! Watch this soace
Wow, sunning , always loved these …had a chance to buy a regular one in the late 80s but could afford to insure it .
Stunning motor , well impressive
thanks, glad you like it!
Wonderful work you've done on your Maestro Turbo. It's a credit to you. It looks ruddy awesome. Makes me think of a white one I put a deposit on and was going to part ex a UR Quattro for it but the Quattro got knicked so the deal fell through. Got the Quattro back a few days later but the Maestro had gone 😢. Anyway its been a great series following you with this car. Looking forward to the next episode 👍👌
Thanks for the kind words mate, ur quattro 😍 lovely piece of kit! Yeah white turbos also look the biz! Detailing video next up on the maestro 😬👍🏻
@@RetroRatchet My Dad had a white facelift Montego Turbo. Lovely car that.
Very well done. Interesting series, thank you. Remember working on these in the distant past.
Cheers bud, wish i had started recording earlier on in the resto, u any interesting stories on the ones you worked on?
Long time ago but seem to remember the stepper motors, as you have found, causing a lot of head scratching.
Lots of replacement ECU’s The local dealer had a shelf full of them which they just rotated - “Here, try that one”.
Surprisingly fast cars at the time but a bit unreliable originally, which was a shame.
Keep up the good work.
That's the cleanest maestro I've ever seen 😂 worked on them many years ago I remember a montego that ran on aviation fuel sounded awesome
Cheers mate, yeah were definitely getting there with it
New Car!!! Congratulations from a German Maestro EFI, Princess 2200 HLS, SD1 Vitesse, P6 3500 S and E-Type 3,8 driver 😀
Thanks, a nice collection of similar taste! Ive not yet owned a Princess (had an Ambo many years ago) 👍🏻
Congratulations bud on the pass!
Unbelievable the amount of work you have put into it and that paintwork is mint!
I also use Menzema products great for sorting out paintwork!!!
Thanks a lot, yeah its all the fine detail im onto now, big snag list im working through, next vid is detailing 😬
Really nice example of a legendary car.
Cheers mate, yeah really proud of it
Absolutely stunning car mate - well done! I used to own a Montego 2 litre EFI estate which was a great car, and very quick. I never really appreciated the Maestro's looks back in the day but I absolutely love to see it now. It's also nice to see the underside of a car without all the protection covers. I'm not surprised you got an MOT pass because that car probably looks better than the 3 year old cars the MOT tester sees for their very first test! Not even kidding! Enjoy it!
Thanks again for the feedback 🙂
Stunning car
Thanks mate, appreciate that 👍🏻
This is beautiful!!!!!!!
Cheers mate! Its been a long journey!
@@RetroRatchetI absolutely love it. These and the MG Montego are pretty rare. And the Maestro is still fast 0 -60. 'Faster than a Ferrari, a Porsche, a Lamborghini, a Lotus, an Aston…’ ran the advertising!! What a great piece of advertising!!
Awesome work! It's great seeing someone dedicate this much care, love and attention on an up and coming classic! Looks absolutely mint! That's the cleanest underside of any car I've ever seen and I love the attention to detail, even down to the brake lines being painted the same colour as the factory items.
One of the coolest cars of the late 80s and early 90s!
thanks very much mate - yeah they are gathering more interest now
Had one in white back in '95 when I was 19. Ran it for 18 months. Loved it. Smoked most cars I came up against at the time. Sold it for what I paid for it. Bloke who bought it off me had it for three months, then destroyed when he crashed. They did a great job of what was basically a shit car, go really fast 👍
Lovely in white, but yeah stick a big engine in and away u went back then.
Not surprised a lot were crashed, brakes and suspension not really up to the job imho.
Always found car wax polish was brilliant on plastic number plates and rear light clusters.
Will need to give that a try 👍🏻
Just subscribed to your channel, MG Maestro Turbo looks amazing ❤
Thanks for subscribing Nick, hope you enjoy the content!
Minter love it ❤❤👍
Cheers mate
Absolutely brilliant to see her back on the road stunning example credit your work.
Thanks a lot mate, appreciate that. 🙂👍🏻
Jeez this is rare, a BLACK Maestro turbo thats mad, only seen one maestro turbo in my life and its my uncles, which is a white example
White are stunning as well to be fair 👍🏻
Wow...all I can say is WOW!
Absolutely stunning... you should be very proud of what you've achieved
Nice job Chris 👍
Thanks for the kind words mate
Credit where it's due! 👍
You’ve done a crackin job on the maestro buddy, well done, that’s a lot of work, enjoying your videos, keep it up 👌👍
Thanks a lot mate, got a good few to edit over the next couple of weeks 😬👍🏻
God!!…😳that’s as clean as a Kleenex 😎💪🏼….. in its time I drove the 1600 gt the one that speaks back to you 😂
Cheers bud, yeah ive got one of the digi dash and voice synth in the loft to fit at some point! 😲👍🏻
Good job geezer, great to see another old school hot hatch back spinning it's wheels.! :-)
Cheers mate
Pristine, especially underneath!👍
Cheers mate
Usually these older cars especially fast ones that still exist are still here because their previous owners took extra security measures against theft.
Or they were broken down in their garages 😆
Your car is in amazing condition mate, I see you are missing the MG steering badge, I must have a couple of spare ones if you need one?
Thanks a lot mate, yeah taken a lot of years and ££. Yeah there are a heap of minor bits and pieces i need to finish it off, be great if you had a wheel centre. My emails in the channel description 👍🏻
Always worth fitting a disguised or hidden engine cut out switch or two to older cars well any cars
Yeah something to consider 👍🏻
Stunning car mate haven't seen mg meastro since 2010
Thanks a lot, yeah u hardly ever see them! 👍🏻
I think the turbos were the best looking hot hatches of the 80s and 90s, such a strong and butch look!
Yeah the bodykit really transformed them
Imho
Had a Monty Turbo back in the day, was phenomenal for 1989 Standards but my recent Gen 8 Civic Diesel had the same power ration and 0-60. Good memories though, drove all versions of the Montego and they were a good motor at the time but turned to Rust quicker than you could say "Ferrous Oxide" so hence the reason they are as rare as Hens teeth.
Yeah rust really was the killer, have you seen my Montego Turbo vid? 😉👍🏻
Black ones are the rarest as only 49 of them were built in that colour. I know of one near my area.
yeah they look cracking in black imho
@@RetroRatchet There's only a handful left now. That one i know of has done 146k from new and is still stock.
I had a silver maestro ie turbo and it was a animal on the road. I will never forget the day I sold it and I'm still trying to buy one now and it's been since 2002.it was a head Turner with the turbo on the side and the red carpets. Jheeeeeeez the cars these days never come near to the old skool cars like a astra gsi or a fiat uno ie turbo or a fiat polo g60.i even had a vauxhall lotus calibre with the same colour as the lotus carlton. It was fucking radio rental driving it lol.another one that got away. I know who is selling it and it is going cheap. It'll be worth it in the long run
That sounds like a rare one! You fancy buying it?
@RetroRatchet I heard a little bird by me that he has it but he sold the lotus carlton wheels. That's no problem. I got a bit shook when you said you fancy buying it. Is it in your possession now? If so I'm definitely interested. If its still the man in bristol then I can negotiate with the price. Its a 1 off.and it drives like a cross between a calibre turbo and a lotus carlton. What a car that would be after money spent on it and with a set of lotus carlton wheels on it. I would definitely show it off. Big up to you bro 💯
Yeah polishing bodywork means it takes longer to get dirty because dirt doesn't stick so easily its faster to clean and more difficult to scratch.
Yup defo
If only these things weren't so rare on the contintent...
Im sure i seen one was even in auz!
There was only 504 MG mastreo turbo ever made serious motors fast as funk .
Yeah i love driving it, still decent acceleration by todays standards,
Very impressive, I had a non turbo efi for 16 years, sold it in 2007. What was the mileage when you bought your tubo and did you have many rust worries ? Mine was a 1987 and amazingly it was fairly rust free, I should have kept it, a very underated car.
Thanks a lot, was low 80k odd when i bought it.
Lots and lots of rust everywhere. I started my channel after most of that was done, check out part 1 on the maestro playlist, gives a high level overview of the linda stuff i got into on it. 👍🏻
After going to that amount of work the car looks stunning get it wax oiled please you thank yourself in the long run
Its strictly a dry use car 🙂
Investment right there
Fingers crossed mate
@RetroRatchet didn't make that many of them I hear. Rare beast. How many left?
I love it.
What’s it worth today. Roughly?
Just out of interest
Cheers mate, good ones maybe £15k-£20k
Nice one pal shes a minter..I take it the steering wheel is slightly off? Least they don't have air bags lol
Cheers mate, yeah booked in for wheel alignment next week. Loads little snags to sort on it 🙂
Its a black ⚫️. So 1 of 49 made ❤
Yeah not many made at all
should the car now be registered as black
Yeah, ive written to dvla 👍🏻
