looks to me like the "yellowed" card base is intentionally yellow because it is a sand field to rest the playset on and set the scene no?

Yes. But I only collect 3 3/4 inch figures. I really like their articulation and molds. The cardboard backing; not so much.

This one I got for a fair price on Amazon. But it must of been near a window for some time because there is some color bleaching on the package where you can see the outline of this playset. I'm still happy with it though.
