Aaron: Hi guys, it's Aaron.
Kristina: And I'm Kristina.
Aaron: And we are professional dance instructors here in New York City, and today we're going to bringing you a series based on the waltz.
Kristina: So the first step we're going to do is the box step which is like the most common foundational step for everything you're going to learn in the waltz. So just a couple of things really quickly. The waltz is a smooth dance, which means it travels around the room in a counter-clockwise direction, so if you're ever anywhere where there are people dancing, just kind of take note of the direction that they're going and make sure you join in and go that same direction.
So we're going to start this pattern side by side. We're both going to begin with our left foot going forward. The girls just note that generally you will generally be starting this on your right foot going backward. So we're going to take our left foot. We have one step forward, one. Step to the side with your right foot, two. Close your left foot to your right foot, three. And then go ahead and take a step back on the right, side left, close right foot to left foot. So we have one, two, three, one two, three.
And so a note for this, if you've ever seen waltz dancing, there is a rise and fall to this dance, so the downbeat is on one so we're going to call it, in its most basic terms, going forward, down, up, up, down, up, up. And that's just a really basic way to kind of get you familiar with the rise and fall of the waltz. You can kind of try to add that in. So let's dance this with a partner.
So we're going to take our traditional dance hold, palm to palm, and then girls you're going to take your right hand and place it just below the shoulder. Gentlemen your left hand will be in her palm, right hand will be on her shoulder blade. So, another important note. When you set up, be slightly offset. So girls think about stepping slightly to the left. Guys, think about having her slightly to her right. That way you won't hit feet when you try to dance. So we have one, two, three, one, two, three, one, two, three. We can also take this basic step and we can rotate it to the left a little bit, so we'll show you that right now. And one, two, three, one, two, three, one, two, three, one, two, three. Now let's try that to some music.
But like... how do you rotate.
a room has four walls. when you start, face one of the walls. then rotate to a corner. then faces wall, then face a corner. It helps me “1,wall,3/ 1,corner,3/ 1,wall,3/ 1,corner,3/
+ remember a waltz is 3 beats not 4
hope it helps :)
YOURE WHITE LMAO
@@ia4049 what does her race have to do with it?
There's another video I think? SUPER late to the party here

sad really!
Yeah surely. Who cares? A person's neck isn't important.

Howcast: * makes educational video about how to do a waltz *
Everyone: necc
Kudos for the video content! Apologies for chiming in, I would love your initial thoughts. Have you researched - Miyyan Wenacob Bulldozer (erm, check it on google should be there)? It is a good one off product for learning the rumba and other popular ballroom dances without the hard work. Ive heard some extraordinary things about it and my work buddy got excellent success with it.

Hey, I'm actually not really interesting in dancing myself but thanks for the information
He isn't saying anything, just staring at her most of the time.
ELECTRIC GAMING it seems that they take turns on instructing. In the Rumba box step video he does all the talking and she just stands and looks at him.
he's clearly a lapdog beta male

I learnt to waltz when I was twelve, I was taught by my mum. The waltz I learnt is different from this one, but I have to admit the gracefulness of this version is enthralling.~
Mans got a great silhouette and posture
This is one of the dances we learn at our local social ballroom swing club. Kinda awkward to do with friends as it relies heavily on direct eye contact, but it’s easy to just laugh and have conversations while dancing, which eases the tension.

Notice the amount of times he looks at her.
I'm using this for a fic and it's very helpful! Thank you!

Shrek might not be Disney, but you could imagine you are dancing with Prince Charming. The instructor literally looks like him.

Anyone else noticing she's confusing her right and left?

Random question: what is that music that you were dancing to? Sounds like the background bit on the Great British Baking Show
its darude - sandstorm
That was a beautiful song.
I like the song also..do you know the title?
I don't know the title to the song.:D But I might use these dance moves for Prom.

I'm sorry that omits the correct position soles, very important for ballroom dancing
So interesting to read the comments here)

As feedback I am disappointed in this instruction approach. Why would both the woman and man instructor show the man's step in detail, and not show the woman's steps until dancing together. It's confusing (my opinion). I'm going to do a waltz with my daughter at her wedding, and I'm trying to find some instruction for her on a box step - and I am disappointed at the lack of decent video for the woman to learn from. You could have made this a good video by focusing on what the woman needs to know from her perspective rather than showing us the man's part with both of you doing the same thing. Once you start dancing together, the woman has to figure out what was never explained about her steps...
The woman and man do the same step. Both step forward on the left and both step back on the right. It's just that the man starts with stepping forward (left) and the woman starts with stepping back (right). When the man steps forward, the woman steps back, and when the man steps back, the woman is stepping forward. So there is no actual focus on the "lead's" step, because both steps are actually exactly the same. It's probably a little too late, but hope that help's any other's trying to learn.
The man is the one leading when dancing ballroom dances so her doing that on showing the man's part is good (I know this is already a year ago but i'm just passing through :p )
Hope it went well
Did you end up doing the waltz at her wedding though.
It’s actually the same thing. Just they start on different parts but after the first, it’s exactly the same so they didn’t need to show it twice
Sengoku-san...

Y'all are just talking about the dude's neck. But boy, his pants are longer than the Nile river
Would you still say that now, since the Nile dried up?

Everyone is talking about the dude's neck, but am I the only one that noticed the other instructor looking like Prince charming from Shrek? Like it's the exact hair and everything.

Step is so easy but doing it with music confuses me
I liked this video but I have to say, y’all look so stiff. I understand that the waltz is usually found at formal events, but I just think it would look nicer if both partners were less tense.
... Im here because I have a crush on a girl
Aw that’s actually so cute. You will make a great partner in the future :)
Looks like Daniel Radcliffe
Really? How does Aaron remind you of Daniel Radcliffe AKA my sledding partner who appeared in the 2nd half of my dream?
Anyone remember Squall from Final Fantasy VIII
PE grades after watching this: stonks
Yeah yeah, he is looking to her too much. Normal behaviour as she is the one who is speaking. Besides, if I'm next to her, it would be hard not to. The girl is just too goddamn gorgeous.
I can count on PAN ; WANNA : leave

So, Tatara watched this?
What if i am dancing with a dude >:(
I'm desperately looking for one that explains this and doesn't just throw in one sentence
