These Toa sets will always have a special place in my heart, mainly because Bionicle 3: Web of Shadows was one of my favorite movies growing up.
Same here.
Web of Shadows had the best animation of all 3 films. They actually gave the 6 hordika different run cycles even though their anatomy was basically the same.
I would like the Hordika designs more if there were actual Rahi elements incorporated into their design. Give Vakama dragon-like attributes, like a tail, wings, and clawed feet. Let Nokama be able to bring her legs together and swim through the water like a dolphin or a shark. Beef up Whenua and give him Kane-Ra horns or the claws of a Muaka bear.
Bear? The Muaka are cat-based, like a tiger...
@@Waddlez3121 bruh just understand the man's point
The heads slightly resemble certain rahi vakammas head looks like a muaka
I think some fans want Nokama's legs open for various reasons
Better, give matau falzar elements
Given that, in lore, the Hordika are part Rahi, something really cool would've been if each member of the team had a different body type/silouhette, as if each were a different beast. Matau could've had two pairs of arms, Whenua could've been four legged, etc.
Would've been interesting to see! But I think they had to make sure they were still clearly Toa and not too indistinguishable for marketing
@@AllOutBrick It's too bad really, but then again even overall 2005 was a meh year for bonkle so
@Katie Lewis out of curiosity do you have a source from which you found this info?
Maybe…. Even Norik says that some of the Muaka is in them (to Vakama).
@@EXPowerBlast Not meh. Just executed not the best way. But not fully meh IMHO. All ideas were pretty amazing, minus Vakama being the one to turn, just not executed well.
Always thought these were underrated. Don't see any flaws other than the lack of articulation on the left arm. Much better shoulders than on the Metru too.
I honestly feel these sets would be remembered more fondly if they had a gear arm for both sides. the recolored Mata limbs are nice, but having both arms contain the gear function would make them way more imposing and bestial looking in my opinion.
The basic build’s good, their big issue is just how similar they all are. Identical builds between them and they don’t even have many good recolours since they all use silver accents; means there’s not much incentive to collect them all
@@kezif The masks were usually more varied though, here they all have the same basic shape. Even the toa Mata had more variety with Pohatu's torso being upside down, the toa sometimes having different arms/hands and Pohatu and Onua being a little hunched
@@kezif none of them before or after this were outright identical. The mata and nuva had pretty varied builds and a very diverse set of weapons, and while the metru were much more similar they still had slight differences in addition to diverse weapons and a much greater variety of recolours
Agreed. We definitely needed some more variation
The hordika in themselves aren’t bad,it’s just they’re sandwiched between two of the best years for the toa
To me personally, I can excuse them being a step down from the Toa Metru build when considering the lore. It simply shows the difference between their original prime form as proper Toa compared to their disfigured Rahi-Toa form. That way these sets have me more immersed in the story because I’m like “yeah, we should definitely find a cure for the venom!”.
I know this is an argument that probably only works for me, but hey. Just wanted to mention that :)
I'm sorry, but this argument just doesn't make sense. You can have figures that look like disfigured and mutated monsters yet still not look like shit. If you want some examples, just look at the Barraki or Nidhiki. The Toa Hordika are just garbage figures who don't want to look like heroic toa, but doesn't want to fully commit to the half rahi mutated look, leaving them looking like bootlegs.
I said in the Toa Metru video video that I was never a big fan of them namely Vakama because of how timid he was but when they became the Toa Hordikay whole opinion of them changed. Seeing them face this seemingly unstoppable enemy while having to face this inner darkness and rage that’s attempting to take them over and Vakama even joining the “Dark Side” for a bit there made me sympathize with them and even start to like them a bit
The 2005 storyline definitely seems to be one where it either enhanced it for some people or did nothing for others. At least the common consensus is that it didn't ruin any of the characters
@@AllOutBrick I really don’t know why people don’t like the 2005 story when I was a kid Web of Shadows was my favorite Bionicle movie
Join the Dark Side. K.
Join the Good side. K.
And with that, gear functions come to an end in canister sets in Bionicle G1. I always thought these sets were lackluster when I was younger, but Matau and Nuju grew on me a lot, and Whenua's extra function is pretty cool. If there's one thing this year did well was Vakama's story arc which lead into the best Bionicle book, "Time Trap".
I was surprised by how many combo models there are. The dragon is my favorite and sea spider second favorite. The six arm creature would definitely be better with four arms, it has a lot of potential.
This video got recommended to me and I ended up watching the reviews here for the Bionicle sets kid me never got to buy. Subbed.
These bad boys were what got me into Bionicle back in the day. Good times...
😎 THAT'S THE BETWEEN BEING A LEADER AND A TYRANT LIKE YOU! A second toa taught me that.
The sea spider is built incorrectly, because the instructions are riddled with errors
Pretty much agree with you all in all here, I wasn’t really a fan of the Hordika myself but I wouldn’t really say they are the worst. Just a little repetitive and basic designs, the lack of variety in the masks compared to Metru is probably the thing that held these back the most for me
I'll never understand why most people dislike then so much. Most of their weapons are awfulm except for Matau and Nuju (who has one of my favorite weapons), but other then that they look cool!
I really like their asthetics, with the asimetric arms, and the overal feral apearance. And usually I HATE gear functions, but on this I think it works well.
PS: I'm glad you mentioned my argument in favor for silver weapons from a previous video!
And speaking about mocs, their heads are awsome to use in some rahi hehe
I always hated the limp left arm that always jutted out to the side. it was awkward looking as hell and I honestly wouldn't have an issue with these guys either if both arms had the gear function.
@@thewoollyviking5928 I like the asimetry... But that arm is AWFUL for posability, because of the way it's conected =/
@The Woolly Viking You can always mod the sets. That's the whole point of Bionicle, creating your own heroes.
These are the guys that got me into Bionicle. I thought them bursting out of webs was really cool so my siblings and I would wrap them up in scarfs and have them work their way out.
I was 8, good times
dude 2005 titans are SO GOOD. unique, nice play functions, and GREAT COMBINERS. cant wait for the review! so nostalgic about them
When it comes about Bionicle, I love long video reviews! Excellent 👏
I once saw an eBay listing for all six of the Hordika for $30 at 12:00 AM. The next morning it was sold and I am still mad that I didn’t get it.
The movie they’re from was one of my favourite bionicle movies
Every Monday, we take a step closer to 06 and 07 and I'm so hyped. I'm dying to see the reviews for the titans.
I can't wait for Barraki review!
Thankfully, you’ve got some better Toa coming up with the Toa Hagah
Never realized quite how many Bionicles I had until I watched these. I had the originals and stuff even later than this. Fun sets!
These were always my favorite. Love them to this day.
Me local thrift store had five outa the 6 (missin Whenua)
haven't expirenced such joy while building em in awhile.
Mata Nui Mondays is like a holiday for me
Looks like you'll be having 52 holidays this year
Ohhh the nostalgia! as this is my first sets of bionicle ever, got the matau-vakama-whenua bundle. Ever since those sets, i fell in love with bionicle. So even though it's not the best of a set, it's still hold a place in my heart
Head/Mask Piece, the Feet and Bodyframe of the Hordika are some of my Favourite Parts. They can be used in soo many different ways. Like the Feet are an amazing chest piece.
Forgot that these did have a gear function. It’s on one of the arms, but very subtle.
For the record, I think the issue with the protocairn is an age issue. I built the combo model back in 2005 and remember being surprised that the legs were able to hold it up just fine.
Very plausible
YEEEESSSS IVE BEEN WAITING. Some of my favorite toa heroes period. Love the Hordika (and still waiting on Keetongu)
Watched every video. You made me cry because I had only 5 bionicles for life.
I'm scared of the combination models when the line green and redesigned joints start appearing, the parts will probably crack taking them apart
Yeah someone should warn him
The lime green joints up to 2005 are the only good ones.
I will do what I must
The release of the canister sets of this year varied depending on the region. Despite the fact that the Hordika were released in North America before the Visorak, I honestly don't remember seeing them in stores at the time. The only I ever owned was Vakama, though not until two and a half years later. By contrast, I had a friend around that time who had received all of them as a birthday gift during the year of release. I remember that the torso of his Nokama appeared to have the axle hole chipped off, so he had to attach her head at one of the shoulders. At another point in '07, he was missing one of Whenua's eyes and the newly-introduced "gyro-ball" on its right arm. Admittedly, these do get mistaken for villains sometimes to someone not familiar with the story, but I do understand that they are meant to look mutated. Many of the pieces in these are unique to this wave-even if the "Blazer Claws" from Vakama also reappear in the "Tower of Toa" (8758) and "Battle of Metru Nui" (8759) minifigure-scale sets, and another Matoran-size set later on, with one having the base recolored in black. Whenua's mutated mask appears in a "Vikings" set (7017) recolored in red in the same year, and Vakama's mutated mask reappears in earth green/Metru green in one other set in '07. The lower leg pieces in Metru red, earth blue/Metru blue, brown and white are exclusive to their respective sets, while the ones in black and earth green/Metru green appear in one other set each in 2008 and '09. Similarly, the lower right arms in black, brown and Metru blue are exclusive to these sets, and the Voodoo legs from the Toa Mata in Metru red, Metru green and white are the same status. The upper right arms are exclusive in all but one of the colors. Outside of these, the chest plates of the Hordika were only seen in a "Vikings" set (7019) in the same year, and four other Bionicle sets in '07. Vakama is the last canister-size set to have the Bohrok eyes in neon-green, but is the not the last set ever to have it...
The red toa hordika was my first ever bioncle. I had never seen or heard of bioncle until my mother had brought it home to me from the store as a surprise. I was a bit young and inexperienced at the time so i had difficulty putting it together so my mom ended up sitting down and doing it and she seemingly had more difficulty than i did.
By the end of it she was frustrated and swore to never buy a bionicle ever again. But subsiquently she did.
That one figure sparked what would end up being a core part of my childhood. I was absolutely hooked on bionicle. I even was able to find some of the older toa mata sets at the time at a local dollar store.
Im now 26 years old with a wife and 2 young children with a 3rd on the way and i still have all my bionicle parts in storage.
I hope one day when they are old enough that they will be able to build their own creations with them just as i did.
Toa Hordika Vakama was my first LEGO BIONICLE set I bought.
As a kid i remember always kinda liking the hordeka for some reason.
Thought thier swords and stuff were really cool, same for thier heads.
Same reason i liked the piraka and ignika lol
I would really have loved to see the Horadika “reimagined” and desgined uniquely like how LEGO started doing it with the Baraki/Toa Mahri
If you introduce the Rip cord inside the gap in the back, between the yellow spinner and the neck, with the "teeth" pointing frontwards, you can lock the rhotuka and the cord in a better position than crossing the chest. It fits so perfectly I think it was on purpose, but they probably forgot to put it in the instructions.
This was pretty much the beginning of my "era" of Bionicle...
They are really cool to play with
I can almost smell the brand new Bionicle plastic when you open the sealed canisters. 🙂
I have a feeling the roodaka review will be quite something
My biggest problem is the fact that since you only get one of the unique arms, you get less of those pieces, so it makes their reuse more situational.
the Frostelus and Protocairn actually look really good
That would be air! HE'S ALL YOURS!
"There's no point in living if I can't be beautiful"
2005 series is the best time to review Tahtorak
I had a few of these toa as a kid. As an adult, i appreciate there designs more. As a kid, it bothered me that they didn’t have matching Arms. The arms were great for making bigger Mocs. I remember as a kid altering the models to be a bit better. Mainly changed the lower legs to the metru legs because the original legs were very loose on the red on specifically. I have seen people make updated designs to the hordika that give them a little extra articulation on the shorter arm. And make them a bit more screen accurate to the movie. The are tiny changes but really improve the original model I would recommend looking them up online. Really minimum in-terms of extra parts needed to make them.
These would be even better as mocs I might make one
On the bright side, now Nokama mask match the colors of the body
While not the best sets, I think that their weapons really carry them. I like whenua's little jackhammer things, and nokamas weapons feel like how they should be in her original form.

They might not be the best as sets, but they still stick out in my mind. 2005 was still a pretty good year for bonks, just for other reasons.

Nice 👍
Will you be reviewing the canonized, dark hunters from the 2005 line? Like Ancient, the shadowed one, voporak etc.
The rhotuka were the best launcher. No they do not ever go where you want them to, but that's what makes them fun
Can’t wait for the 05 Titans. Are you gonna cover the system play sets?
Definitely not right now. Maybe at the end of the theme though
@@AllOutBrick there not a huge thing to me although it would be cool because of how little coverage they get.
Heres a moc idea. Use hordika heads as sholder pads
I'm trying to get all the Toa Inika, but until now got only Hahli and Hewkii. It's very difficult to find them here in Brazil.
Edit: I got Jaller too.
Where did you manage to get these? I've been searching for these sets and similar for ages.
Right. I wonder what's taking the rahaga so long? I mean hard is it to get directions?!
I don’t get why these get so much hate. I think their masks, weapons, chest armor, and launchers are super cool
I never realized there were so many combination models! I guess I got really lazy at that point of Bionicle to care about builiding all of them.
Will we see a review of the Battle of Metru Nui? :D
My first and only Toa was nokama hordika still got it but I miss some parts
I personally thought the toa metru were worse and my reasoning is the torso part of them....as they felt very constrained when it came to fusion & MOC builds.
sure the hordika are not the greatest but they do have more versatility in the MOC & fusion builds because of the torso, arms(shoulder as well) & parts in general.
i will give the fusions(that came with them) are a bit malformed.... but that is a result of the base hordika builds being so by lore & in "toy"
Where do you get these sealed? I want them so bad
By the way, why do theese heads look better for the rahaga or rahkshi
Hey part of my own Personal OC Moc was mainly inspired by these guys!, And honestly the Hordika were cooler than the Toa Metru, then I found out there the same characters and my brain just went, KERNLAMO!.🤣
"What's happened to me? Answer me! I am a Toa!"
Not exactly
Are you gonna do the playsets?
Thanks!
Thank you so much for the support!!
So if toa hordika are meant to be part rahi are they supose to be part a pictular creature?
Honestly I think the Toa Hordika are extremely underrated. The combination builds are dreadful in my opinion, but I really enjoy the regular sets. I would give them a solid 8.5 and if they weren't clone sets I'd give them a 9

1:58 Ah yes, that pop
Used Hordika have the potential issue of loose connections and the right arm gear function can become floppy.
1:55 oh yes! This takes me back I always used finger nails to break seal first all the way then opened lid. Really wish Bionicle could return I wouldn't mind cardboard boxes because those are more environmentally friendly to plastic canisters.
i dont get why the 6arm general grievous has to lack so much armor . It looks like a skeleton and didnt use any of the toas chest armor pieces at all .
Matau hated his Hordika form. He also blamed Vakama for their misfortune.
I don't know, I found the sounds of the night 🌃 fascinating.

Yay!
I’m pretty sure there was a combiner of all six Toa Hordika
The OG Monster High for boys
This was the only set which I had each model 😩
I don't know how you opened a sealed canister and didn't smell inside it lol
By the way, did you ever look at the Krahka combiner model for the Toa Metru?
I like the masks, but if they had another connection point it would've been much better. At the time, Hordika necks were a scarcer part than they are now so putting the masks in were harder than the old ways, when all your parts are in a tub or box. I also preferred the more generic weapons easier to moc with. The legs and the feet are fabulous pieces, though.
At the time, the "Vikings" theme was the only other place they could be found.
I wish these toa-rahi hybrids were done much different. They could be part beast and still look cooler than what we got. Also, the asimetric arms are a deal breaker for me, specially because the gear function doesn't do much, it just rotates the forearm and can bend it backards too which makes it even more odd.
Yeah I agree
Gotta admit, never realised Protocairn was suppossed to be a dragon
I think once bionicle had 2 eras of releases I didn't like as much (Hordikas, pirakas, and even inikas) my interest in Bionicles wanned. Plus I was a teen into PS3 with so many good games my money went into that. But the Vahki were ok, Visoraks were AMAZING I was hyped after loving the all the releases from 2001-2005 (except hordikas...)
I feel like the Hordika are pretty indicative of the 2005 as a whole. If you love Bionicle either way, they’re alright, but if you really want to see new parts, creative builds, and new masks, then they’re pretty disappointing.
I may be wrong but I think the Titans are the only part of 05 that are universally loved, the visorak are better than the hordika but both are pretty divisive.
NGL tho, at least the Hordika are unique. We were starved for unique the closer Bionicle got to the end.
When u have reviewed all the bionicle sets can you do something like "hero factory mondays"? That would be cool in my opinion
Hero Factory Fridays?
Another good option
Where are you getting these sets from?

just curious has he ever given a 10 score
The Sea Spider is incorrectly shown in the instruction compared to the promo pics, the Rhotuka launcher shoild be on top and eyes should cover the Hordika foot / face.
The same is true for the Rock Raptor, with the neck being shown higher on the torso than where it is supposed to be. Additionally, the Frostelus' instructions show an image of Whenua's mask in Metru blue for some unknown reason.
@@colinroberts2060 2005 was a peculiar year indeed. As for Whenua Hordika, it was either it, or Vakama, that was in different colour in one of the playsets' prototype model, would have ben quite interesting if that piece survived.
@@SFtheGreat Technically both of them appeared elsewhere, but only Whenua's was in a set outside of Bionicle (7017). Vakama's was recolored in Metru green for a larger set in 2007.
